I don't think he's in a bad situation. He can go used or new i5 4670k/4690k if he's willing to OC a bit and 4790k if he's not. If he goes the i5 K Haswell route then he can reassess if he wishes when Kaby Lake comes out. But then again I like tinkering with stuff. I'm not sure I would...
Hmm you really went bare minimum with the board there huh? :'( The good news is although your board wasn't suppose to support overclocking Intel did a weird thing and released the Pentium G3258. Once released they wanted to allow people to overclock the G3258 on cheaper boards so they allowed...
i5-6xx chips are just i3-5xx chips with a turbo mode which is pretty useless when overclocking. Many of them do overclock pretty well in the 4.4 to 4.8 range but if you don't have a board its better just to sell them.
I believe he has a p55 board. But no difference in overclocking with P or H. P just allows support of multiple gpus while H has integrated video outputs. The Xeon X34xx cpus are a much better buy then the i7s. Upgraded my cousin a month ago from an i3-540 to a X3440 for $25 and oc'ed it...
As other have said you need to oc that cpu. If you can remove the cpu without having to remove your motherboard from the case I would also consider buying a Xeon x3440 and selling the i5 750. Its essentially a free upgrade if you are willing to do the work. That will give you the equivalent...
If you don't have a Microcenter near you I would consider grabbing a new P7H55D-M EVO board off ebay ($80). Then getting a used Xeon X3440 ($25). Its essentially a lower clocked i7 860. But from my experience with them they are actually binned better and require less volts for the same...
I agree with the others on a gpu. But a i5-4670k for $240? I assume you are buying new at that price. So why not look at an i5-4690k? They are just about identical but the refresh always has better resale value.

The i5-3570 non-k goes used for just over $100 and can be overclocked to 4ghz to 4.1ghz (if you want to play with the base clock). There isn't a logical reason to hold on to a 1100T unless you simply dread doing a...
Don't see how its throwing $75 away. You can flip it for a $10 to $15 loss at most. Or buy it from a seller that accepts returns. Then its like a $3-$5 loss.
It looks like it does support ivy with bios update. But you can't overclock a 3570k because only motherboards with a p67, z68 or z77 chipset will allow you to overclock a k-series chip. You have a H61 board.
Need the manufacturer of your motherboard. If its from a Dell, HP, Lenovo etc most likely it will not be compatible. Regardless even if it is compatible it will not allow you to overclock a 3570k so getting one would be pointless.
The issue can be video card or motherboard dependent. I had a 7850 and sleep worked with both MSI boards I tried and an 1155 Asus board. It would not wake when I tried it with an old Gigabyte board and a 1150 Asus board. Currently using a 7870 and sleep works fine with the 1150 Asus board.
Most likely power supply. Cpu is the most reliable part in a computer. General rule is to assume just about anything else on your comp is dead before its the cpu.
Most people recommend Intel i series chips because they offer good all around performance with reasonable power draw. AMD chips offer very good performance in some areas but poor performance in others while sucking more electricity. Unfortunately, you went a little too low going with a Pentium...
Overclocked G3258 is the king of Dolphin. Wait until Newegg has another cpu/mobo for under $100. They've had them consistently about once a week for a while now.
I would not go with Asus or Gigabyte if you care about quick warranty service. Both companies usually try to "fix" your card before sending you a different one. Its usually a bad job and you will have to send it in again which just doubles your down time. A 280x is just a rebadged 7970. I...
If I remember correctly about half the pins are power or ground pins. If one or even a few of those are missing the board will continue to work fine. I'm typing on a Z68a-GD65 I bought with two bent pins about two years ago. Never given me any problems even with hefty overclocks. If its one...
If your res really is that low then don't bother with another card. You are probably running just about every game max at over 60fps. Which means you will not see a difference adding a 2nd card.
Yep google the model number of your motherboard. Go to the manufacturer's page for your motherboard. Look for something like downloads and update the bios.
The problem with AMD fx 8xxx chips are that their performance in games is inconsistent. A few games run very good. Some run ok to good. Others run poorly(worse then first gen i7's from 2008). So if you were to get a 2nd gtx 780 you may see an improvement in some games but many will not...
I would consider switching to an i7 3770k or 4770k before thinking about going sli. That cpu will definitely be a bottleneck in some games. Its probably a bottleneck for you now in some games with a single gtx 780.
I would just contact RMA@althonmicro.com . These are the guys Sapphire subcontracts to handle rmas for them in the US. They will ask you to fill out an rma form and email or fax a copy of your invoice to them. You have to pay shipping to them in Walnut, CA but there should be no charge for...
Considering how cheap electricity is in some regions of the US it may be a while before they feel the crunch from the difficulty bumps. Of course living in Northern Cali I'm almost at the point of why bother.
The slowdowns are sever side. I had a gtx 670 and it didn't even boost all the way when playing Diablo 3. I just did a public run of the Keeps and cpu usage never went above 14% cpu while my 7950 never went above 36% usage. Honestly, I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree. OP may...
My guess is you don't need new hardware at all and its just Blizzard's crappy servers. But the easiest way to tell is to OC your video card and/or cpu to see if it makes a difference. If you do need an upgrade I'm pretty sure its the gpu.
I'm currently stable at 1.19v 1205/1415. Even trying to get 1210 on the core all the way up to 1.26v I would get the black screen. Temps are always kept in the low 70's or less. I know easiest way to test my theory would be to up my voltage and keep clocks at 1205 but I'm not running...
Not to hijack the thread but has anyone heard of 7950's that don't like extra voltage? Mine doesn't seem to like anything above 1.19 or so. Screen just blacks out with some games(Crysis 3) if I go over that.
Personally I would get (2) 23"-24" ips monitors. I actually did just that. =) Got them today and I'm loving them. Sure gaming will have to be done on a smaller screen. But you will absolutely love the extra pixels for everything else. This is someone coming from one of those 27" korean IPS...
Personally I would just get a r9 290. If you must stick with nvidia. I would look at getting some used gtx 670 2gbs for $400 or less over 2 gtx 580 3gb. I really don't think gtx 580s will get close to using 3gb or ram. Plus they suck up so much extra juice even in idle.
Its not about spacing them further apart. Its that Gigabyte was the only company to have the first pci-e slot on the third expansion slot instead of the second expansion slot from the top. By doing this they made the third pci-e slot useless for anyone that doesn't have an 8 slot case(which...
