3Com wireless gateway reboots all the time

My company purchased a 3Com OfficeConnect Cable/DSL gateway (3CRWE554G72) a few months ago, and there is a problem we can't seem to figure out; every 10-20 minutes, we are all disconnected for a few seconds. The log in the gateway reveals that it actually reboots every time we lose our...

    My new rig won't POST

I got a tip on a Norwegian forum, suggesting i should reattach the heatsink. I did, and now everything works! I never even though about that being the problem, but as it turned out, I had attached it the wrong way, so the heatsink wasn't even touching the CPU core. Problem solved! Time for...

USB 2.0 or FireWire for external hard drive?

Thanks for the input. I've considered the flexibility of USB, but performance-wise it looks like FireWire is the winner. The use of combo cards is really interesting, but I haven't been able to find any PCMCIA cards with both interfaces. If I find one, I'll definately buy it, because it's no...

USB 2.0 or FireWire for external hard drive?

I'm looking for an external storage solution for my laptop, and it looks like I'll buy Maxtor's 250GB FireWire/USB external hard drive. My laptop only has USB 1.1 ports, which of course is unacceptable, so I'm also going to buy a PCMCIA card with the appropriate ports for either USB 2.0 or...

Sony OpenMG Jukebox and disappearing files

I bought Sony's MZ-N1 MiniDisc recorder a couple of days ago. The recorder itself is sweet, it's definately the best one I've ever tried. The bundled software, however, is a total piece of crap! I can live with instabilities, and even the incredibly slow performance. The fact that it makes it's...

    Brightness, LCD and laptops

I have a Dell Inspiron 3800 whose display has been behaving a bit strange lately. I usually use the laptop with the external power supply connected, but a few days ago a friend borrowed the supply, so I ran on batteries for the first time ever. I was a little surprised to see that the...

    Temperatures -- I'm confused...

Yeah, it is the only logical explanation. But the air inside the case and the air coming out of the PSU is definitely a lot hotter than 22 or 25 degrees. I'd say 40-50 degrees would be more correct. I guess what I've learned here is that the temp readings from the sensors on the motherboard...

    Temperatures -- I'm confused...

I'm using Motherboard Monitor (5.1.0.4) for the first time in my life, and I've discovered something that just doesn't seem right. MBM finds three temperature sensors (all temperatures are in degrees centigrade): Via686A-1 (22 degrees) Via686A-2 (25 degrees) Via686A-3 (45 degrees) . Now...

I need quiet cooling for my cpu

Hm, didn't think of that possibility. Cheap is always nice. I'll give it a try. I don't need a <19dB fan or anything, I'd just like to at least get it below 40dB :-)

I need quiet cooling for my cpu

My GlobalWin FOP38 is driving me crazy, and I've realized it's a bit overkill for my system. So I'm looking for a heatsink/fan which can keep my CPU sufficiently cool without the insane noises that come with a 7k rpm fan. My rig (the important bits, anyway): TBird 850@918 (9*102) 384MB RAM...

    Hitachi CM772, anyone?

My Hitachi CM769 just died on me, but fortunately, it being a Hitachi monitor all I had to do was call the support line, and they'd come home to me with a new one. Or so they said at the store.... Of course, the on-site warranty was only good for people living in Oslo (which covers about 10% of...

    Radeon and the 60Hz problem

Are you talking about general in-game refresh rates, about the Windows desktop, or specifically about AitD4? In Windows, I have no problems getting up to 160Hz in 800x600, so I know it's a software problem. I also know it's a quite usual problem for Win2k/Radeon systems. I've tried a few more...

    Radeon and the 60Hz problem

I just started playing Alone in the Dark 4, and it seems impossible to get the refresh rate above 60Hz. I'm running Windows 2k SP2 using a Radeon 64MB DDR (3226 driver). I've had the same problem in other games, but I've been able to fix it using DXDiag, some registry tweaks and just about every...

    Cordless optical Logitech mouse problems

The battery status is fine. The problem was, even though my other Logitech Optical works fine on my desk, the cordless one doesn't seem to be very fond of black surfaces. I solved the problem by using a sheet of paper as mouse pad. I like the mouse a lot better now, but the sample rate doesn't...

    Cordless optical Logitech mouse problems

I just bought the cordless, optical mouse from Logitech. It's nice except for one really annoying thing: if I stop using the mouse for more than 10 seconds, it seems to lose its connection to the receiver, and I have to press the Connect button again. When the connection is working, the mouse is...

Hard drive speed problems on KT7

I bought a new hard drive a couple of days ago, and reinstalled Windows (2000) and upgraded the BIOS to get a fresh start. But after upgrading, the read/write speeds on all drives seem to be limited to approx. 7MB/s. It's a KT7-RAID mobo, with the 3C BIOS. The HDDs a connected like this: IBM...

    ATA100 drive on ATA33 controller

I'll try to answer as many questions as possible here :-) The BIOS is pretty old, I don't know what version it is, but I haven't upgraded it in at least a couple of years. So I guess the 32GB limit problem is correct. But the drive should still be detected by the BIOS, shouldn't it? I have...

    ATA100 drive on ATA33 controller

I bought an 80GB Western disk yesterday, and was planning to put it into my old computer for use as a file server. The disk is ATA100, and my old computer has an ABit LX6 mobo. The IDE controller on the LX6 is ATA33 (I think, I might be wrong here). The problem is, no matter what I did, the disk...

    RAID _ IBM HD freezes

If I remember correctly, it wasn't until the UZ BIOS was released that I actually became happy with my KT7-RAID. Before that, it locked up all the time. One major problem was that I had a non-RAID drive as slave on IDE3, and whenever I tried moving/copying anything from this drive to the RAID...

ASUS KT7 and Global Win FOP38

Assuming you mean ABit KT7, there's no problem. I asked the same question a week ago, and I was told KT7 was one of the few mobos with 6W fan headers. I think the FOP38 needs somewhere between 4 and 5W. Anyway, my fan header survived. But be prepared for some serious noise :)

    System slowdowns - what's wrong?

Haven't excactly located the source of the problems yet, but my computer worked a lot better once I disconnected it from the network. So I guess the problem is somewhere in the network. It's a good thing because it means my computer is OK, it's bad because the network is a mess, so actually...

    System slowdowns - what's wrong?

There are all sorts of different equipment here. 50 computers and almost as many different nics, ranging from very cheap 10MBit cards to too-expensive 100MBit ones. Random hard lockups??

Sounds to me like your video card gets a little too hot. I have no experience with your card, so I don't know if heat is a common problem, but still. 3DMark2000 might run fine because it takes breaks all the time while loading the next test etc., while other games may be more graphics...

    System slowdowns - what's wrong?

I re-installed Win98SE recently, and since then, my computer keeps slowing down *a lot* every now and again. That's incredibly annoying when playing games, I'm sure you can all imagine that. It slows down so much, my old SX25 could have run in circles around it. It happens about every 20 minutes...

    FOP38 and power consumption

Just bought a FOP38 (you don't have to tell me about the noise issues, I'm aware of those :-)). I've done some reading on the Net, and it seems like all reviews warn me not to connect it to the fan header on the mobo unless I'm sure it can handle the 6800rpm fan. So, my question is: will it be...

    problem with KT7-raid

Had the same problem (more or less). There's a jumper on the board that's used for resetting the CMOS to default settings (I think it disconnects the battery or something). Can't remember excactly where it is, but you should be able to locate it yourself. Solved my problem.

ATI Radeon 32MB DDR or Geforce MX 32MB?

Lots of people here are talking about the Radeon's overclocking potential. I have the 64MB bulk version (clocked at 166/166), and I have clocked it to 200(engine)/190(memory). Works great! And I gain 800-900 points in 3DMark 2k!

    KT7 UL103b1 BIOS upgrade

Actually, my power supply is the standard one shipped with the AOpen HX08 case. I think it's 300W. It's not a lot, but it's enough. From what I've read, 300W is what you need when running a T-Bird, but I bought that case in 1998. And it certainly did kick ass back then :)

Got another reply while I was writing my own reply :) Oh, well, here's the answer to that one: I haven't tried it without RAID enabled, because the array's capacity is 60GB, and it's more or less full.
