My point is the Tesla can give you a charged car just as fast, if not faster than a gas station could. The tech is there if people wanted it. I can't fault Tesla for the users not taking advantage of the option.
More-so to me this just bodes extra well for the ease / cost effectiveness of...
I drove 40 miles a day for work and lunch with my Volt. So in the winter I drop the battery to 0 daily. In the summer I usually get home with ~12 miles of charge left. I can 100% charge from when I get home to when I have to leave the next AM for work on a 110v charger.
I just kept my eye peeled and when I saw a bunch that would stack jumped at it. The big one was $2500 since I already own a Volt... that plus all the others meant I shoved $6800+ of incentives into 2 years, where most people stretch it to 3 years on a lease or 5+ on financing. $6800/24 has...
We have the 2.5 liter 4cyl but in that the shutoff is really noticeable too.... I was shocked how apparent it is/was.
Beyond that and the sorta boring look of the car, its really quite nice... especially for the price we're paying. Tons of room. I've never been in a car where riding shotgun...
I have never considered leasing a car in my life .... I usually buy a car used with 20-50k miles, drive it to +170k and move on... but not this time!
My wife was driving a Lexus IS350 we wanted to replace because of the miles, we did so with a 2016 Chevy Malibu we leased for $72/mo. 24 month...
FWIW - I bought a Volt about two years ago, figured I would drive it for 4-6 years until the Model 3 releases, try and dump the Volt for the 3 and hope for the best. In the past 18 months the addition of charging the Volt has raised our electric bill $16 a month. Usually I burn the battery...
Quick update of photos with the home-made V12 project my uncle is working on (couldn't find original thread - sorry)

So I have DirectTV box, PS3, FireTV Stick, and Misc HDMI input going to my receiver. From my receiver's HDMI out I run to a powered splitter (1 in 2 out). The two outs go like so:
1.) To the projector...
2.) To the extra LED tv in the room
Everything on and running the DirectTV / FireStick /...
Yeah, he seems to be loving this project .... and honestly his hotrod is even more impressive than this build.
another one of him just cheesing sitting in the "seat"
Bought a house about 6 months ago, spent the first month gutting the basement because of mold and now have started to rebuild.
The basement will ultimately be:
* 26'x22' Theater / Bar room setup
* 14'x14' home gym
* 10'x8' bathroom
* 22'x10' laundry / wife craft area
* 20'x15' storage area...
Some more photos / update -
* Car will most likely be a tube-frame, mid-range, single seat death rocket (think Lamborghini Egoista )
* Will be twin turbo .... quad turbo was posing to be a huge pain in the ass to get everything fit/spaced properly.

Next update:
* What has happened since New Years:
* Mated the engine to the transaxel and started to process how to package everything
* PVC is a rough frame of how the frame will ultimately look, getting an idea for space and where things will route
* Cardboard box around the transaxel is...
I'll bet my next paycheck you're wrong. The guy is so insanely smart... like freakishly so, I have no doubt it will be running sooner or later.
Been there done that, one of his last projects:
UPDATE - Sorry it took so long!
Where things are at currently:
1. Cut the bottoms from two Toyota Supra inline 6 cylinder motors
2. Machined, welded, stress relieved and align bored a crankcase for
120 degree V angle.
3. Purchased a custom crankshaft from Scat with SB Chevy main bearings...
Items you can use to lower the price:
* Lack of service records and/or if the car is coming due for a major scheduled maintenance
* Tires / Brakes
* Comps in the area
* Have them include TTL in the price
* Finance through them, then just pay the loan of when you get home (make sure there...
Its off a week from the usual, but starts tomorrow... which sucks because with this rain and tomorrow's forecast of 90* will mean its a hot humid sweaty mess.
I'll be seeing my uncle this weekend... there is a big car show here in Minneapolis, "Back to the 50's" he always attends with my dad so I can pick his brain on where things are.
for fun, his old Buick that was won oodles of awards
His other project he just wrapped up too, a old school remake...
I would get the following things researched beforehand -
Whatever specific car you're looking at common problems, maintenance schedule, and/or quirks.
... based on what you find, keep on extra close eye on these issues when you see the car.
VIN number and carfax/autocheck on car
If they...
I just bought a new (to me) pontoon boat and would like to run LED strips between the deck and pontoons, as well as under some the seats...
Around the house I have some LED strips + IR controllers + PSU that I bought off ebay, they all work great but the PSU gets them to run off a standard...
I'm and engineer for filter technology company... we literately have a hand in all areas of filtration, including automotive air filters.
Like others have said, everything between ambient air and the point of use is a resistor, you also have the issue of "speeding" up the air (hence the use of...
FWIW -
I bought a prior salvage (read end damage) 2005 RSX like two years ago as my winter beater / commuter.... the guy had all the receipts for repairs, before/after pics, and inspection complete. This little guy ran my $4000 including TTL and only had 65k miles on it. I rarely drive it...
This is generally what I do with cars.... try and get something 20-40k miles that looks well cared for, then drive it to 80-90k and try and sell before it hits 100k and loses another chunk.
0 miles to 10k loses a lot of money
90k to 100k loses a lot as well.
...if you're not the one owning...
FWIW... I would highly suggest the IS350 over the 250, there is a WORLD of difference between the two.
If you're set on the IS250, do NOT drive the IS350 because you won't want to go back to the IS250.
... I bought an IS250 awd years back, loved the car in every way. One day got a IS350 as...
Current job and 10 mile commute - yes traffic, and I agree it sucks.
Either "new" jobs traffic would be non existent. The biggest delays in both would be from turkeys, deer, and farm equipment in the road... I would be in the middle of nowhere.
That is true... just will be tougher to sell to...
I should have been more specifc... the nature of the work of the two is a bit different. One I know I love doing (longer drive), one I know I am very good at but much less enjoyable.
... but like you said, two extra hours in a car a day adds up very quickly.
Interesting turn tonight, the wife actually liked it. I was also offered another job in the "move home" area... only this one would be 7 miles door to door. Same pay (within 2%) but not quite as good of a title.
... this would kill making the Tesla being "justifiable" ... and 15 miles round...
The problem is with an electric motor you get 100% torque instantly... so rather than a slow ramp up in power its BAM!!!! So you're putting more stress on the tires with the "quick" starts that happen more often.
$1000, nah... I have 19's on my IS and my wife's IS and decent tires can be had much cheaper than that if you keep your eyes peeled for deals, which I try and stay up on.
I've assumed replacing the tires at 10k miles (twice a year) on my calculations at $750 per time. I'm pretty easy on the...
I read similar things about the sunroof and "P" model, both if which I wouldn't want...
... I would probably order a 85kw with nothing else but the Tech Package. Worst case scenario too is our new place(ish) would be a few miles from my Dad's place and he has some extra cars I got desperate...
