I still put optical drives in my workstations. I like to run linux liveCDs on WORM media for secure web browsing or checking the contents of hard drives I don't trust.
I also still burn discs. Maybe 10-15 a year. They're mainly for liveCDs or moving files to suspect computers. I don't use them...
Mega Man X. The movement in that one was just perfect. With a little bit of practice you could dodge/ evade pretty much anything. Fighting bosses was almost like a dance of sorts.
There was rarely a 'correct' weapon for any given situation. You could make many different ones work for taste...
Debian ISO have had a neat feature for the past couple of years. You can simply 'cat' them to a USB flash drive and boot from that. I could see whatever magic they use to achieve that possibly confusing an optical disc emulator.
The Dreamcast supposedly has the best version of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. It's a quality Zelda-like with monster-style vampires. Crystal Dynamics worked on this series before they took over Tomb Raider.
I've never damaged a piece of computer with a static disharge in 20+ years of tinkering, at least that I'm aware of. I do ground myself when working around ICs however.
I don't feel left out. I destroy good hardware with different methods. ;)
I don't know for sure but here is my guess. In the olden days, the core parts of a computer were much more discrete and were spread over several cards that were plugged into a backplane. All boards were of similar size and plugged into the same slots. Now most of the essential parts of a...
I have a PSP-3000 with custom firmware and have played dumps of some of my PSX games on it.
There's lots of obsolete information out there. Here's a relatively up to date guide on installing custom firmware from a dedicated PSP homebrew site:
"PSP Custom Firmware for Dummies"...
I imagine that hardware would be fine for pretty much any game that would run on a Pentium 3. You can do a lot with that.
Arx Fatalis
Jedi Outcast/ Academy
Soldier of Fortune 2
Unreal Gold
Half Life
Deus Ex
Morrowind
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver
maybe GTA: Vice City
maybe...
If consoles failed I think the blockbuster AAA game market would go with it. They require huge budgets and I doubt there'd be enough pc gamers + console refugees to take up the slack. Now that wouldn't be the end of the world but I do think the hobby would end up losing a lot of mindshare...
Those crazy steam sales kill me. I was used to games being much more expensive and felt compelled to jump on any deal that looked somewhat interesting. Big mistake, it's like drinking from a firehose. I think I've finally broken the habit but my backlog is already large enough to last a few...
Jedi Knight 2 (aka Jedi Outcast) was an awesome game but it was developed Raven Software. I think the old Lucas Arts was already dead by that point. :(
Chopping up storm troopers with g_saberrealistic was tons of fun.
I've found Ubi's Ashan game world that they use for their Might & Magic franchise to be pretty fun. It looks like a generic fantasy world but has a fair number of oddities that give it a unique taste. It doesn't hurt that it absorbed a lot of Arx Fatalis 2 when Arkane made it into Dark Messiah...
I've been running Win8 on my gaming PC since release and have only had minor issues so far. I kept an XP partition on the system to get around potential compatibility issues but I haven't needed it yet.
That said, new Windows releases will always break something. As such, a quick google search...
EA was cool back when they used the record album-like packaging. I started disliking them when they began buying up legendary devs, sucking them dry, and then discarding the husks back in the '90s.
Over the past 5 years or so some wierdos started blindly buying up previously cheapy/ garbage old computer parts and listing them for hundreds of dollars. I don't know if random MFM drives fall in that category but I'd be highly suspicious. It might be interesting go into Ebay's advanced search...
I'm not disinterested, I've just never heard of it. I initially thought you were talking about plain old Revenge of Shinobi which I've always thought of as Shinobi 2.
Revenge of Shinobi == Shinobi II == Revenge of Shinobi II
or not
Is there a good place to learn more about Revenge of...
I'm excited! :D I can't wait to try BFG edition's native VR support with the Oculus Rift. I already have a crappy VR920 VR headset and played normal DOOM3 with hacked in VR support and it's really something else.
I've heard the original Doom3 port to the XBOX was really stripped down. I think...
I used Windows 8 consumer preview for about a month and half. If you learn the hot corners it's as usable as XP or Win 7. Metro Apps work fine with a keyboard and mouse and are completely optional. Gaming will be unaffected by Win8. Really, this is much a do about nothing.
Isn't obvious? You need one bay for your optical disc and four more for your A: and B: drives. ;)
