Hi, some months back I got a 3 monitor(1080p) setup for gaming. Right now I have an xfx dual fan 7950 feeding it, but while it does try it's best it's really not quite powerful enough for my tastes, so I might upgrade. How do the 290 stack up against the 780? Here the 290 is a bit cheaper...

What to upgrade now?

Your 60hz monitor seems to be the most obvious upgrade to me. Go 144 hz, get a 2.5k monitor or go for 2 more 1080p monitors and game in surround. I'd probably go for the latter,I love my 3 monitor setup. I have not gamed on a 2.5k monitor however. If you decide to go the 144hz route, get some...

I want to get a semi-gaming pc

Starcraft 2 doesn't play that well on AMD cpus (when there's a ton of units in play mind you), the same with emulation. It sounds to me like you'd be better off by increasing your budget a little and getting an Intel i3 or an i5.

R7 260x -for what resolution?

Here is a 7790 (260x) playing BF4 beta with around 60 fps and in 1080p with medium settings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEvi-m6w8Vw I'd recommend getting a 1080p monitor. 900p is better than 720p but it it's still not good.

I'd say keep it, the hyperthreading will keep it relevant a while longer. That 7850 should be the bottleneck in games, not your i3.

Budget gamer, G1610, best non-bottlenecked GPU?

When I had a g850 (2.9 ghz SB dual core) a 7750 was the bottleneck more often than the other way around. A 7770 or a 7790 sounds like a good pick.

Kaveri/Huma and Light Gaming

Get a cheap, decent cooler like hyper 212 evo, and overclock your cpu to 4+ ghz, and get a 650(ti) or a 7750(or a 7770). It will get you better graphics(should handle any game at 1080p with at least low settings) and your current cpu might be fast enough for you then.

KitGuru tested the FX9590... it's pretty bad.

AMD really should have sold this one cheap, the loss they'd have by selling it at say $500 would be insignificant compared to the ad value and goodwill they'd gain. Or so I imagine anyway.

What can you o/c a i5-3570K Ivy Bridge to?

Mine is running at 4.4 ghz with 1.184 v. My cooler is a h60 and my mobo is z77ia-53 (msi itx board). 4.5 ghz is the highest I've tried for, and that was no problem but I prefer 4.4 because of the much lower voltage.

Have you tried pushing that 1090t a bit more? You might very well get it up to around 4.1 ghz, maybe that'd give you enough fps to not be annoyed. For a new cpu for mostly SC2 you should forget about AMD at this time. With a setup as good as yours, a 4670k or 4770k would be great. I have a 3570k...

Just got a Phenom II 1100T - OC'ing Advice?

I keep my 1090t just shy of 4ghz. The voltage needed to get it stable rapidly goes up if I set it to 4ghz or above(need to set it at >1.5v). I believe that's slightly below average, but I could remember wrong. For cooling I use a a70 and the temps are just above 50C with prime95. I pair mine...

Gaming HTPC recommendation

Are you using a htpc case or just a regular midi tower one? An i5, sandy or better sounds like it'd be ideal, you can easily stick that into a smaller case later if you have a midi tower and feel like getting something which looks better by the tv.

Given that these are beefy cards in crossfire\sli, it would be a bit of a waste to run them at a mere 1080p, both for the end user and also given the amount of time it would take with all the setups.

Now that's a nice upgrade, and death to those awful gt 210s :D I went from a gt 210 (via hd1000) to a 7750. It's night and day, I'm sure she really does even notice it on very light gaming.
