Ivy or sandy? I7 or I5??

LOL at no performance difference...guess all those comparisons were made up? Sure, it's not a huge gain, but clock for clock IB is better. That's been stated over and over.

    Overclocking CPU/GPU/Memory Stability Testing Guidelines

Also, don't forget after running these tests to check your event viewer for any critical errors that these tests aren't reporting. Don't want a silent corruption :)

    Some questions about stability testing

Check your event viewer. I bet you're not good. You probably have a ton of WHEA 19 errors. 10 passes of IBT really isn't much and neither is 4 hours of P95. That barely got 1/6th into the tests it runs. Don't be surprised if you get a random BSOD.

If anyone wonders if the IHS and bad TIM are why IB can't be cooled. (hint, yes)

It makes me wonder if the TIM is fine, but the IHS sucks?

If anyone wonders if the IHS and bad TIM are why IB can't be cooled. (hint, yes)

Exactly. But when he went bare die, he got roughly 15.75C better, so that's a big improvement.

This wasn't my chip, it was the guy from that thread. He already RMA'd the chip and is waiting on the new one to show up. Why would Intel tell him the chip is bad if it's the motherboard? Either way, something to watch for.

Ivy Bridge Results and Discussion thread

To me, peak is one of those occurances where it can hit that, but the chances are extremely low. I figure on gaming I'll be in low 60s to mid 50s. I can definitely live with that. And, I would de-lid if I felt comfortable with it...but I don't. I know myself and I would definitely screw it up haha

Ivy Bridge Results and Discussion thread

Naw, those mid 80s were just peak points. It was average in the low 70s. I can handle that if that's at full load :D. On idle I was hitting roughly 23-30C. Not too shabby.

I'm waiting on Intel to tell me if their test is faulty or if I have a bad chip. They're looking over the test results. At stock, I failed the bclk test which IMO shouldn't happen. I'll keep y'all updated.

Yeah, i have a ticket in with Intel right now about failing the bclk test at stock. They said they don't know of IPDT not being compatible with IB, but they're looking into it and will let me know. BTW, there will be some errors that are ignore-able in the event viewer. I've found quite a bit...

Yeah, I know what the error is, but most don't think to check the event log. You'd think running P95 for 18 hours would mean you're stable, but that might not be the case.

Any harm in disabling all these settings?

Leave them on. They lower your voltage at idle and don't actually affect the load voltage.

    Need help...can't figure this out

Ok, now help me figure this out...I reset the BIOS to stock settings by doing the Load Optimized Defaults. It's SUPPOSED to clock the processor to 3.9K by default, I THOUGHT. So I started Prime95 this morning and left, totally forgot to look at CPU-Z and all that. My roommate just looked at it...

    Need help...can't figure this out

Yeah, I'm probably getting ahead of myself too fast. Tonight, I'll take it slower and do like you said, one thing at a time. I'm going to just work on getting a stable OC somewhere around 4.2 and that should be a good starting point.

    Need help...can't figure this out

Ok, I'll do that tonight. I'm going to do manual first and once I finally find a working voltage, I'll go back and do offset using that as my basis. I'm not sure what VCCSA or IMC is? And I know the RAM is rated at 1.5v, but it seemed to stop wanting to reset the RAM if I kept the voltage bumped...

    Need help...can't figure this out

Ok guys. I'm using offset to OC and I found out my VID is 1.24v. So I set my offset to -.010, LLC to 75%, PLL to 1.6, and my RAM voltage to 1.65. I've already run a memtest for over 8 hours with no errors so I know the RAM is good. When I was running Prime95, my voltage at load was 1.224-1.232v...

Help with my absurd 3770k temps

Water doesn't always mean custom water. I'm using an H100 an it is quiet as all get out. I barely notice it.

Ok, explain to me how to use offset

Yeah, I think normal is 0%? I know it has 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. I'll try it on lower LLC. I've just been reading about people putting theirs on higher, but maybe that's for 4.6+ OC. I'll try the lower LLC with a positive offset and see how that works out. I was trying to get around 1.21v or...

Ok, explain to me how to use offset

So, set it to auto? Or 0%? But auto increases my load voltage up to like 1.24 which seems a bit high for 4.5 doesn't it?
  30. M

Ok, explain to me how to use offset

Ok, I've got a question. I did a LOT of playing around with my set up last night and I still can't seem to get it stable. I might just be trying to get the VCore too low at load and being unrealistic in my expectations, but we'll see. I just want to totally make sure I understand how LLC works...

This is the OC I have so far, if it stays stable with Prime95, I'll probably stick with it and be happy. I put the offset at +.005, the PLL at 1.6, mem voltage at 1.575 (my memory supposedly runs at 1.5, but that was giving me issues), and the LLC at 50% This was after the test This is...

    Ivy Bridge overclock guide?

Basically, turn off C3/C6 after 4.5 GHz, don't touch bclk, adjust LLC accordingly, use offset instead of manual so you don't use too many volts at idle, and stress accordingly with IBT, Prime95 Blend test, etc.
