    I've had a similar problem in the past and if memory serves me it seems that it turned out to be a bad HD. Can you slip another known good HD in there and try it? If it does the same thing then there is something wrong with your setup or MB.

    installing a new OS is so easy that I do it on customers computers if they are even moderately infected with spyware/malware. Don't even try to keep the same OS with the new components. Just bite the bullet and do the right thing.

    Only reason I can see to go with a system builder like Alien are the time and hassle factors. Personally I look forward to getting away from the rat-race and focusing on building a new system for myself and setting up the hard drives/OS/drivers etc.

    How did you start in SETI??

    I remember signing up for SETI before it was available, and receiving notice that it was 'now available for download'. I ran the GUI for a couple of years before I learned about the CLI, and have been running it on at least 1 CPU at all times. Time to go looking for another project........

    As far as SPAM goes, I think this is pretty harmless. What I hate are the computer generated mass mailings that I receive every friggin day. I think this guy is harmless and we shouldn't bother him too much. Maybe just some good-natured ribbing.
