  1. HBO's original: Silicon Valley... Liking it so far! 'Nerdy entourage'

I think it's more a matter of them wanting to use their time working on the product, not fixing a laptop. In a business it's usually much more efficient to outsource "IT Maintenance" rather than have the development staff do it on their own.
  2. Last Man on Earth

I love this show and have laughed out loud at some point in every episode. I think Phil is the most despicable character on TV right now. When he had them play tennis and made the guys go skins, stole the cow, etc. It's hard to watch how selfish he is, but I can't stop.
  3. Is Daytona Beach a nice place to live?

I live in Orlando and would never consider living in Daytona. If you like the area and want to live by the beach look into New Smyrna Beach.
  4. Would you want to have been born a girl?

I don't think this has anything at all to do with being male/female. It is all about looks, social skills and attitude. It is both very easy and very difficult for certain people of either sex. Op, if you were the exact same person you are now, but a woman do you really think your life would...
  5. Last concert you saw?

Foster the People, two Saturdays ago. Hard Rock Live in Orlando. Great show.
  6. what % of your FB friends are gullible?

From the "Woman stuck in a chimney thread" "The flue was lubricated with dish soap before she was lifted out of the chimney, placed in a stokes basked and hoisted from the roof by a ladder truck, according to VCFD Capt. Mike Lindbery." I guarantee they used Dawn.
  7. What computer components or electronics have you lost due to electrical storms?

I had the cable guy out yesterday to replace my modem. When we checked the incoming line to the house he noticed that the earth ground wire had been disconnected and was used for the DirecTV. That's right, the DirecTV installer took a shortcut probably because he assumed I wouldn't be using the...
  8. What computer components or electronics have you lost due to electrical storms?

Sorry to bump such an oldie, but this happened again tonight. The apparent culprit was the cable modem and things connected to it via Ethernet. Crap. It even fried an HDMI switch, which obviously only indirectly connects.
  9. What's the most dishonest thing you've seen at a retail store?

I saw a guy return hundreds of dollars of steaks to Costco. He said he was a caterer, and didn't end up using everything. I couldn't believe how up front he was about it. Those things have to go directly into the trash.
  10. why do you invest in paper assets?

Does the op know anything about finance? There is nothing lazy about it. It is incredibly complicated and creative from a business perspective. Also, doing homework on the proper "paper" investments can take a lot if effort. I'm probably feeding a troll. Do the underpants protect against...
  11. What exactly is litecoin mining?

Where can you buy these things? Legitimately.
  12. So I started The Shield

I think Vic's wife is the real life wife of the show's creator.
  13. What ever happened to Michelle Jenneke?

    No thigh gap...
  14. Whoa...Amazon's Matchbook service offering e-book copies of your real books for cheap

I've easily bought over 100 books on Amazon, and only 6 showed up in this list for me.
  15. GMO Food, Artificial Sweeteners and Processed Foods

This is exactly what I do, except I don't want to eat any sandwhich she would make me. It would probably be made with gluten free bread (she has no gluten allergies) and have flax seed poured all over it. Oh God, gluten. Don't even get me started on our arguments about gluten...
  16. GMO Food, Artificial Sweeteners and Processed Foods

My Mother in law is always ranting to my wife and I about the "scary dangers" of GMO, processed foods and artificial sweeteners. I just deleted yet another email from her pointing to some blog where the author went on about the horrors of Splenda. I'm frankly tired of it. I don't buy into...
  17. Apple Oct. 22 event: We Still Have A Lot To Cover

I've been waiting patiently for months for a Mac Mini update. The fact that it didn't come led me to spend about $800 extra last night on an iMac... I couldn't bring myself to buy the old Mini. Apple: 1 Me: 0
  18. Apple Oct. 22 event: We Still Have A Lot To Cover

I just want a new Mac Mini for my living room.
  19. Balancing a checkbook?

I use Quicken religiously. It automatically downloads my transactions for all accounts and I have a detailed financial history going back about 15 years at this point because of it. The big thing that a program like Quicken allows for is to project forward. I usually input my bills and income...
  20. Verizion customers, input?

Verizon is definitely the most expensive carrier in the States, but it works well everywhere. To me it is well worth the premium. They used to offer terrible, restriction filled phones, but now they have the same hardware as everyone else.
  21. This is how you use a GoPro (NSFW)

    That was fantastic.
  22. Public complaint about Fossil eyewear

Fossil is not a high end, high quality brand. They make low/mid prices stuff that is supposed to look expensive, but is really pretty crappy.
  23. Verizon Wireless: Unlimited Data vs. Upgrade

While all that is true we might as well work within reality and still try and get the best deal. At this point I will only use Verizon since it offers far and away the best service throughout the country (I travel a lot). I can whine all day that I don't get a cheaper rate if I bring my own...
  24. Verizon Wireless: Unlimited Data vs. Upgrade

I'm actually thinking of switching from unlimited to the family share just to get tethering for free. I only use a couple of gigs a month anyways. I have a jail broken iPhone to do tethering now, but I'm tired of screwing with the jailbreaks and want to just do it right. What is this about...
  25. Did you buy a diamond between Jan 1, 1994 and March 31, 2006?

$48.01. I forgot that I even submitted this.
  26. Favorite TV episodes/moments

I completely forgot about that. What an amazing scene. Like others, many of mine are from Lost. My favorite ep is where Desmond is jumping in time and it shows his relationship and connection with Penny. I think it was called "The Constant" or something. Simply amazing TV.
  27. Game of Thrones - TV Series (NO BOOK SPOILERS)

Having read the books I knew full well what was going to happen, but man, that was hard to watch.
  28. Rich Manhattanites hire disabled guides to cut Disney world lines

When I was in High School we used to get someone to fake a leg injury to allow us to rent a wheelchair at Disney. We didn't even need to pay the guide, just the $20 or whatever rental fee.
  29. What were these college students thinking when they took out these student loans?

One if the biggest problems with student loans that hardly anyone ever mentions is that huge chunks of the money isn't even paying for school. It is paying for housing, food, entertainment, etc. Paying for Living expenses with school loans should be restricted to some reasonable amount. It...
  30. Bagram Airfield Crash 29 APR 2013

As a frequent flyer that video made my stomach turn.
  31. Where to Move: TX or FL

I live in Orlando and love it. Sure, it's hot and humid from may-oct, but its perfect for the other half of the year. It's at most an hour to great beaches depending on where in the city you live. We have the second largest university in the country and lots of great nature (springs, trails...
  32. duck dynasty

Yeah, Phil definitely loves his wife, and you can tell it's completely genuine.
  33. Favorite cheap sweet red wine?

Ha, that winery is like an hour from where I live. No way a Florida wine can be that good.
  34. Orlando to the Keys, I-95 vs Turnpike

I live in Orlando, not Miami, so I don't know too much about rush hour down there. The issue isn't just Miami though. From West Palm all the way to Miami is effectively one giant city. That whole 60-90 mile stretch is prone to bad traffic.
  35. Orlando to the Keys, I-95 vs Turnpike

Take the 417 -> 528 -> I95, but when you get to Fort Pierce jump from 95 to the turnpike. The bad part of 95 is once you get to South Florida proper, so this will save you money but give you the biggest benefit.
  36. Buying a new House - WiFi or Powerline?

Oh, and the DirecTV installer who came to my house said I needed RG6 run to the TV, but there was no possible way to get it there based on the layout. I told him to leave because I wasn't going to get their service if it wouldn't work in my living room. I ran it myself along with the cat6 and...
  37. Buying a new House - WiFi or Powerline?

Update: Thanks for all if the input. I ended up running cat6 to all of the locations where I would have a cluster of devices. The tip about going from a second story closet down was the lifesaver, as there would have been no other way to hit my main TV spot without doing that, and I may not...
  38. Veronica Mars returning?

I loved this show, and own all the seasons on DVD. I hope this works out.
  39. Buying a new House - WiFi or Powerline?

I am in the US. The house is going to have satellite TV, but I may have the installer run new coax lines for that, so I can probably use the current line for this.
  40. Buying a new House - WiFi or Powerline?

Now that I think about the layout of the house, this may be a possibility. I'll have to relook.
