I put the blame for the pci problems with Via AND creative. True, creative soundblaster live had compatibility problems with a variety of motherboards, mainly due to pci spec (even gave me some problems on my old intel board). I also put some blame on VIA, their chipset just gives me headaches...

Sounds like you have your network card and sb live! on the same IRQ. I suggest you change the positions of your sb live and network card. And make sure they are not sharing IRQs...

Why does my system seem more sluggish with more ram?

If you have 256+ megs of ram, the setting "ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1" is a godsend(Windows will use all the physical memory it can utilize before hitting swapfile). After you set that, disable virtual memory(in order to get rid of the existing swap file ie winswp.386), restart, then...

Get whitebox, software is not worth getting in my opinion....just remember to use ctrl-a while the scsi card is initializing in order to get into bios and set controller settings...it took me some searching on the internet to find that command since the installation manual didnt state that :)

Any reason a Plextor 8/20 CDR SCSI is better than a Plextor 12/10/32a IDE?

Sell the Plextor 12/10/32, it can burn SafeDisc 2.0 copy protected games(ie Hitman, Alice, etc) but those burned cds can only be played on the original burner that you burned the cdrs on(ie the plextor 12/10/32). The Plextor 8/20 can burn safedisc 2.0 protected games, and these burned cdrs can...
