Very strange .. Upgraded cpu from 3570 to 3770 today. I had 4 sticks of 4 gb that had been in there before. No other changes made.

Don't want to go off topic. but I may be considering SSD...but is it as reliable as a hard drive? I don't need that much speed..just faster than I have now..Takes forever to boot up.:)
The hard drive on my system is creating a bottleneck..it is an old 250 GB Seagate..the reason I have kept it is the fact I didn't want to have to reinstall my programs.
Is there any way to clone this drive so I wouldn't have to reinstall Windows and all of my APPS? Any assistance is...
Actually I am overclocking on a stock cooler..still haven't found time to install the Hyper Evo...I am getting 80C at 3.8 as well and that is stable..ran prime 95 for 3 hours. I do have a large case with many extra fans inside for air movement.
I finally got it figured out...it was the hard drive settings..I had to change it to SATA from the original. I thought for sure I screwed up the board/memory when I uninstalled the after market heatsink. I am running the stock cooler for now...I will try to reinstall the other cooler next...
The only thing I changed was the motherboard. I have Windows 7 64 bit installed on drive. I moved from I5-750 to I5=3570. I have Radeon 6870 graphics card. I thought that may have been causing an issue so I went to the Ivy Bridge onboard video and still having the same issue. Very frustrating...
Finally got it started..now my only problem is windows will not boot up or I should say it crashes. I get the Windows screen then it crashes...reboots..asks me to do system restore..I do that, but it still doesn't work. Any idea what could be causing this?
I put the old board back in and it booted up. It is not a power supply issue. If board doesn't boot up, is it defective board? Even if it was bad I thought I would get some sort of system response..even if it is just the fans kicking on for a short time.
I hate to do it. but I am going to use the stock cooler just to see if I can get it working. I was trying to install a hyper evo. I checked for bent pints on motherboard..I think I had it installed correctly..just had to take it apart to see if CPU was seated properly.
I am installing a new motherboard today..something I have done a couple times in the past. It is a Gigabyte motherboard...I have the processor installed...both of the main power cords from the power supply are connected...I hit the power button as a test to make sure system was getting juice...

I ordered mine yesterday with the Hyper Evo cooler. I should be able to have it installed by early next week. I have 4 other fans in my case. I am hoping it will help.
I think I may go with this one..I didn't know up front you could add a second fan to increase the cooling. Thank you for the information..hopefully I will be able to have it installed by early next week and can run some benchmarks for the forums.

There are two fans shown in the product description, but none of them are attached to the cooler in the product photos. Do you attach the fans to the cooler? May seem obvious. I was just confused why they didn't show it...
I am going to place my order with NewEgg today for the 3570. I was wondering what the best cooler would be to get a relatively moderate overclock to 4.5 without breaking the bank..50-60 dollars would be the max for a cooler for me. I don't want to go with water or a crazy large/complex cooler...

I am ordering the 3570...I was just wondering does it matter whether or not the memory is dual channel versus quad channel as long as I am buying 4 of the same module..4GB (There are 4 memory slots on motherboard)
I was talking about the 3770 versus 3570. Yes the 3770 is obviously faster, but the 3570 was usually at least as fast or faster than the 2600K which has hyper threading. The main time where I saw a difference was 3D rendering..not media creation.
I am not sure if hypethreading really provides that much additional performance in terms of 3570 versus 3770. Just looking at the benchmarks in the reviews thread Photoshop/Premire/After Effects really wasn't all that much faster on the 3770..in fact in Photoshop the 3570 and 3770 were a bout...

I was talking about an air cooler. I just want to be able to overclock it a bit...nothing crazy. I have a full size cooler master case so getting a big air cooler into the case shouldn't be a problem. I just don't want to end up having to significantly mod the cooler..doing all kinds of crazy...

The trancoding/encoding benchmarks for the 3570 put it ahead of the 2600/2700 K or worst case scenario on park for over 100 cheaper.
Actually according to a site that reviewed it..the list price for the 3570 K is going to be $212...so if I hold out a week..which I can do..I can get better than 2700K performance for 100 less than a 2600/2700 would cost.

I am going to just go ahead and get the 2700K instead of the IB...doesn't appear to offer any performance jump if you have a dedicated graphics card.
