I have reset it, no difference. Then OC again, no difference. I have not downgraded the BIOS yet, since that is quite complicated. But like I said I am pretty sure the BIOS cannot be cause of the problem, since if I boot up in Ubuntu on the same machine I am getting the expected frequencies...

Well, it is an early beta. Did you really expect everything to work on all cards from day 1? I am waiting for the dust to settle before deciding what I think of this. The way I see it, we can get improved performance for free, so I am grateful for even a little boost.

Yes, I was hoping that this generation would be fast enough to give the performance I want at the resolution I want, but no, not yet... I would be in the market if the cards were better. I think I said as much already.

You need a "none of the above" option. Not enough performance gain, combined with not enough demanding applications means that I skip this generation, at least for now.

I remember that the GeForce 2 MX was really bad, but I see that many of you have the same card. Was it really that bad or is it my memory? (I think I got it for an old screen and thus ran it at low resolution first, then upgraded to a larger screen. That might be the cause of its poor performance.)

TrueAudio question.

I never said it would happen auto-magically. If a game supports TrueAudio, that is a selling argument that works well on me (or would if I actually had the hardware for it :D ) . Hopefully publishers see it that way too.

That is funny, I have the same card and asking myself the same question... I was expecting 7950 to sell for cheap after the ASICs hit the bitcoin mining, but I did not see that much movement tbh. Where I live, the NVidia 700 series launch did not even make a dent in the 7950 pricing, and now...

TrueAudio question.

The positional audio software has been out there for some time. I tried a few, with varying degree of success, but they are all superior to non-positional audio. If I remember the announcement correctly, what is new is that by doing this on the graphics card, there is direct access to the source...

AMD price cuts

When these price cuts hit my country I might grab another 7950. I do not need the performance, but boys and their toys... Actually the cheapest 7950 last week was a MSI TF3, which made no sense to me. Now I suspect that they introduced the price cut one week early at MSI (by mistake?).

That does not make any sense... Mantle does not cripple anything, it just gives a boost to GCN. I would think users would be a lot more angry if DICE artificially crippled Mantle so that Nvidia would perform as well as GCN. Assuming it really works, that is.

The easiest is to try a different GPU with a similar power draw in the same box. Ask a friend if you do not have a spare. Or bring your GPU to your friend at let him try it in his PC.

No that is not too hot, but certainly hotter than I have with my i5 2500. I think the specified max temp is 73 C, and that is typically with a fair margin of safety. Depending on what the failure is, you could just get a system reset without any warning.

I think this initiative sounds great. There was a patch for MWO that disabled 7.1 and I simply could not play the game in 2.0. It was so aweful, like playing in 640x480. But then I have exceptionally good hearing and play music too.

Which 7950s have good VRM cooling?

I have one, and I can confirm it. It is truly an amazing card that I can OC to 1175 MHz while still undervolting, but as soon as I start going up in voltage the VRMs get too hot. The VRM cooling is the main thing that is keeping me from hitting 1300 MHz.

Powercolor Radeon 7950 Troubleshooting

Have you tried uninstalling AB? I got a similar problem a while ago when I enabled the unofficial overclocking in AB, I had lots of artifacts when idle in 2D. Disabling the option solved the issue. They probably fixed it since then, but that experience points to that AB itself can cause problems...
