    You can probably overclock that CPU to 4ghz using 400x10 along with adding 4GB more RAM. My office PC is x5460 o/c to 3945mhz, 8gb ddr2 800 ram, 768mb gtx460 o/c 900/4000 and it does light gaming fairly well.

    That's correct. I use CLU under IHS/die, and MX2 IHS/heatsink, -20 to -25c across all cores with prime95 load. I tried using MX2 before, but will quickly degrade after 2 months and I have to re-apply TIM again to avoid temperature increase.

    I think the best way is to get liquid ultra on the IHS/die. I did the same thing to my 4790k, added MX2 and the temperature didn't drop much.

    I have the same 4790k delided o/c to 4.8ghz paired up with 16gb ddr3 2666 CL11 and I been itching to switch to a 6700k pair up with 4000+ memory later this year. Just sold my 980 and now waiting for 1070. :D

    The only difference between 2500k and 4790k is the unicore a.k.a cache speed. I have core set to 4800mhz, vcore 1.325v @ adaptive, offset +0.001v, unicore = 4300mhz, vcore = 1.2v @ adaptive, offset + 0.001v.

    For $300, I think you are better off getting a pentium g3258, h81 board, 8gb ddr3 1600 and then maybe a used r9 290. The pentium g3258 can be overclocked to at least 4.5ghz.

    I have a 400 watt FSP Aurum 80 plus gold, got a 4790k overclocked to 4.8ghz and GTX970 pushed to 1450/7840, been running 100% stable without any issues. So I would say 400 watt shouldn't be a problem.

    I would go head and delid your chip. I did that to my 4690k, with CLU/MX2 combination, my prime95 temperatures drop from 100c to 83c on my hyper 212 evo cooler.
