    Question AMD Turion X2 64

I have refurbished an HP TX2500. Upgraded it to an SSD and managed to get Windows10 installed and all drivers working. In monitoring the hardware activity closely, I can see that the main bottleneck is the CPU (and also very likely the GPU). Typically with these older system, it is the HDD. So...

Razer Blade Pro SSD v. Samsung 840 Pro SSD

Howdy all, I own the Razer Blade Pro (first gen, with a single USB 3.0 port, http://************/k3f55r9) with a 256GB SSD. It boots Windows 7 so fast that it is usually waiting for me to enter the password before I even get a chance to finish plugging it in. It literally cannot complete the...

    HDMI-out and Dual-Link DVI adapters

I don't know anything about Catleap. But, the Apple 30" Cinema Display is an old monitor. It came out in 2005 or so, and thus, has DVI only. It predates DisplayPort, so that is of little use. Clearly, what is needed is simply an HDMI-to-Dual-Link-DVI active adapter. No such thing seems to...

    HDMI-out and Dual-Link DVI adapters

Doesn't look like it -- I've searched all over. No such thing seems to exist. I'll just have to buy a new monitor, unfortunately.

    HDMI-out and Dual-Link DVI adapters

Well this is depressing. So I need a new monitor? o_O

    HDMI-out and Dual-Link DVI adapters

Thanks for your quick reply paperwastage! The exact model is hard for me to say, as I don't know what they're called. But it's the Razer Blade Pro, with a 256GB SSD and a just one of the USB ports has 3.0 capability (green colored). According to Razer, in an e-mail to them, they responded...

    HDMI-out and Dual-Link DVI adapters

Howdy all, I have an Apple 30" HD Cinema Display. 2560x1600 resolution with a DVI connector. I also have the Razer Blade laptop which only has HDMI-out. The specification for the HDMI should support that resolution. So, as I understood it -- I just need a dual-link DVI capable adapter. So, I...

    Code 38.

Guys. This is a problem that can be fixed. HALP!

    Code 38.

This does the same thing as "uninstalling" via the Device Manager, unfortunately. When I plug it back in, it reinstalls the iPhone driver, then prompts to reboot. Still returns the same Code 38 error message in Windows. Any other thoughts?

    Code 38.

Thanks for your suggestions. Nothing works. Enabling and disabling just prompts to reboot -- which would solve the problem anyway. Any other suggestions? It seems to me that it is Windows' job to automatically figure out how to unload the drivers if they're persisting in memory. How can I...

    Code 38.

Upon fresh boot of my brand new Windows 7 Razer Blade laptop, my iPhone works perfectly. But, once I unplug it a single time and re-plug it in, the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver no longer functions correctly in the Device Manager and returns the following error message: "Windows cannot load...

    Cornice screw type?

Racharound, Are you referring to this product? http://www.kasercorp.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=4 If so, they appear to still sell it (shocker!). However, included in the massive box of Cornice drives that I purchased were several 4GB drives which were slightly...

    Logic Gates?

Howdy everyone. When explaining how a computer works -- I can do a pretty decent job until I get to the CPU. Yes, the "brain" of the computer. I am not a math guy. I have a really difficult time explaining this in general terms to anyone. I understand they employ the use of "logic...

    Programs like Acrobat.

Thanks for all your replies. I understand there are alternatives out there that are quicker. But, I suppose it comes down to what C1 mentioned about a single loop bringing down a super computer. It seems to me that we've reached the point of diminishing returns. I notice hardly any difference...

    Metal bracket on 4TB drive?

Curious -- I noticed this metal bracket over the platter of the 4TB HDD depicted here. Anybody know what that's for?

    Cornice screw type?

The small drives are actually 1". They were the world's smallest for a time before Toshiba released their 0.85" drive (which I cannot get my grubby hands on). The larger drive is a Quantum Bigfoot, a curiously large 5 1/2" drive from the 90's with a capacity of ~2GB. The Cornice drives all...

    Programs like Acrobat.

At my office, I recently built a brand new PC. It was expensive, and I packed it with a high-end i7 and Crucial M4 SSD. It is pretty damn fast by any measure. However, I've noticed that no matter how blazing fast your rig is, some programs will always run slowly. My rig at work is an...

Viper GTS -- that is an awesome toolkit. Thanks for the link. So, the most recent triwing screwdriver I purchased is this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Screwdriver-Hand-Mobile-Tool-T3-T4-T5-T6-T7-T8-Y00-/280919891410?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4168215dd2#ht_3428wt_1145 Not sure if I...

    Cornice screw type?

I've bought a ton of triwing ("Y") screw drivers in an attempt to open these Cornice drives. ALL of the screw drivers are too large. The "DS" screws are about double the size of these teeny tiny screws on the Cornice drives. Do any of you know how I might be able to find a triwing screwdriver...

    Cornice screw type?

That's not going to work. That ZIF connector is too large. I have done a bad job of showing just how ridiculously tiny this connector is, have a look: Clearly, that Amazon connector, which is designed for a 1.8" HDD, will not fit.
  23. S

    Cornice screw type?

Yes, both, actually. I don't mind daisy-chaining adapters, if that is what is necessary. I'm saying I don't see any signs of CE-ATA to *anything* adapters/converters. Most searches on the matter result in this thread appearing! *facepalm* PS - with respect to obsolete technology -- hard disk...

    Cornice screw type?

I think there has to be another name for it other than "CE-ATA to USB adapter." Even a simple Google search pretty much brings up nothing to that effect. ZIF 18-pin to USB similarly brings up practically nothing. haLp!1
  25. S

    Cornice screw type?

Agreed -- so... let's plug in this CE-ATA device into a USB port. How can we get that done? :P
  26. S

    Cornice screw type?

heymrdj -- Thank you. I count 18 pins. What I cannot find anywhere on this planet is a "CE-ATA to USB adapter" ~ is this really so rare?
  27. S

    Cornice screw type?

That's the unfortunate situation. Here's a video of a guy plugging it into a computer. Clearly, it's possible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF5vVyphqGU This guy hasn't responded to me, either.
  28. S

    Cornice screw type?

Sure -- but most of them are Chinese sellers and either: (1) don't respond; or (2) provide me with some kind of unintelligible answer like "40-pin ok free shipping thank u." Very helpful.
  29. S

    Cornice screw type?

Bad form to respond after my own post, I am certain -- but I would love to get to the bottom of this ZIF-number-of-pins confusion. If I plug in an 18-pin ZIF to a 40-pin ZIF adapter -- won't I have some real trouble there?
  30. S

    Cornice screw type?

Schmide, Those look great -- but they seem to suffer from the same problem in that they don't say how many pins the ZIF connector is. If you look at my photo of the Cornice HDD, it looks like there are 18 pins. On the two devices you linked me to, it looks like there's at least double...
  31. S

    Cornice screw type?

Thank you, Cerb! Problem is, it's hard to find specifically an 18-pin ZIF to USB adapter. Most auctions or websites are vague on how many pins the ZIF connector has. Example eBay auction...

    Cornice screw type?

Howdy everyone, I need to unscrew a screw type I've never seen before on a Cornice 8GB mini HDD : D: do any of you know what type of screwdriver I need to use for that? Also, do any of you know what type of connector this is? I am lead to believe it's a "ZIF" of some sort, but I...

Intel 320 series SSD and Windows Vista

Concillian hit the nail on the head. Apologies for the shameless plug, but if at all possible I would avoid an `upgrade` to Windows 7; in all this time I haven't seen any significant improvements that outweigh the problems introduced with 7: Why Windows Vista is Better Than Windows 7 TRIM...

    Crucial M4 ATTO speed?

Hilarious. Sounds like I'd have better performance if I just stick to the native SATA II ports, then! I'll give that a try and see if I get any faster performance. Thank you everyone!

    Crucial M4 ATTO speed?

Wow -- thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies! I am running an eVGA 750i (non-FTW) motherboard (which only has SATA II slots) and so I purchased the ORICO "PCI-E SATA III PAS3064-2S2E PAS3062-2E/PAS3062-2S" card. It is completely unclear what the actual model number is -- it's super...

    Crucial M4 ATTO speed?

Howdy everyone, I am running a Crucial M4 (128GB) SSD on a SATA III controller card (PCI-E) and it seems the highest speed it can achieve is 200MB/s read and ~175MB/s write. Does this seem particularly "slow" to anyone or is it just me? Many thanks for your solicited opinions :P
