    In fact, I would try hard to stretch your budget by $100, there's a lot of devices available at the $400 price point. Besides the OnePlus Three there's the ZTE Axon 7, the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4s, and the Huawei Honor 8. That's just off the top of my head.

    OnePlus3 or ZTE Axon 7, the bootloader can be unlocked on both of them, brand new hardware and high end specs for $400 (versus the Nexus 6P being last year's flagship). And they're both smaller than the Nexus 6P. It may be worth waiting and seeing what the new Nexuses look like though.

    OS updates have been lacking. Remember, OnePlus doesn't do the updates for the OPO. Cyanogen does. In the cases where OnePlus themselves are responsible for the updates their record is much less impressive.
