    Skylake, worth using?

No that is not true. The thermal paste between the IHS and CPU is really only a concern for the top 1% of overclockers who want to push their chips as much as possible, and even then the majority of OC'ers manage just fine with the stock paste. Even for OC'ers they don't need soldered...

    Intel Planning massive layoffs

It's kind of interesting because the housing market around Intel in Oregon has been going crazy. Mother-in-law is in real estate/property management and she's constantly setting up houses/rentals in the area for new Intel hires that are "fresh off the boat".

    What is Intel's 2016 strategy?

Anyone can go out and purchase a broadwell system right now and do whatever tests they want. If an exhaustive analysis about one particular facet of a CPU does not exist yet it's simply because no reviewer has gone through the significant effort to do so. Time for you to get the equipment and...

[TweakTown] Intel claims Apple would be lost without their chips

So Apple chooses AMD and they get subpar performance at higher power...and they made a mistake opting for better perf/watt by going w/ Intel? Does not compute.

Have a question about the 4790k?

in my personal case 8GB has been more than fine- you honestly don't need 16GB for vast majority of usage..and if you find you do for your particular case it's easy to pickup another 8GB and drop it in later. On the scale things I would put money in up front on I would still go for bigger SSD...

Have a question about the 4790k?

I just went with the cheapest 2x4GB (8GB total) modules at the time that was 1600+ MHz and CL9 or better. Something like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl9d8gbxl

Have a question about the 4790k?

If you're actually interested in best performance for your dollar do something like this i7-4790k Hyper 212 EVO (~30 bucks) ASrock fatal1ty Z97 killer (~100 bucks) Then get an SSD from one of the deals on slickdeals.net Above is my exact build and I've been really happy with it. It doesn't...

Intel Takes Lead In SV Diversity Push (What Will Happen To CPU Design)

FYI Intel's diversity effort is geared to get fair representation of the qualified candidate demographics at all technical and experience levels- it's not measured against the general population. i.e. X % of female tech workers in the industry are at X level within their organizations, but...

    Newbie Intel CPU Question

same architecture, but more cores, so for the most part should expect same clock per clock performance. Regarding base clocks: I would look at the clocks being lower on the 2011-3 offerings as more an indication of what clocks were necessary to fit within 140W TDP envelope rather than what...

Does anyone here own COD Advanced Warfare? I need a favor done

8 year old ''beast'' gaming pc, advice needed after a long hiatus

I just recently upgraded from a E6600 to an i7-4790k build and seem to have similar preferences to you, in that I prefer to get a stronger CPU up front and then build around that over the years. In the meantime I've built systems for friends and family and I work in the industry so I feel I've...

People recommending Intel or AMD are both wrong, the ti-86 and other graphing calculators currently house the most powerful processors and have for years.

    Intel Haswell-E price list available

All those stock speeds tell you is what they were able to achieve to fit within 140W TDP. What will matter is what they overclock to. Also I'm not sure how you come up with more cost, looks like 6c will be coming down.

Is this good enough in 200$ budget?

I would go Pentium 3258 +z97 over the i3-4130. The unlocked Pentium is cheaper and will likely outperform in the games you play. And it preserves a strong upgrade path later should you wish (with broadwell i5/i7).

Will upgrading an i5 2500(non k) to an i7 4770k and OC-ing it give more performance?

is there any reason you wouldn't upgrade to the i7-4790k instead of the 4770k?

Intel "Devils Canyon" Launch - Reviews, OC Info, Availability

Seems you are assuming. I am talking only about engineering samples- ODM's, OEM's, reviewers all pull from the same pool of engineering parts. There's no specially binned parts for reviewers, the part they get is up to the luck of the draw along with all other ES/QS requestors. cytg111 some...

Intel "Devils Canyon" Launch - Reviews, OC Info, Availability

From what I've seen most reviewers are lucky to get any samples, let alone specially selected samples. There is no binning that occurs once parts have a sku designation. [Sweclockers] Skylake gets both DDR3 and DDR4 support + more

I would not be surprised if the LPDDR3/DDR3L is only a niche option on the lower end mobile sku's, so that's where the 'supports DDR3/DDR4' is coming from. I doubt mainstream will support DDR3, it will be DDR4 only.

    coolalerIntel Core i7-5960X CPU-Z

[WCCF] Intel Skylake 2015 Platform Details Revealed

I dunno, perhaps because he would be blatantly lying in public statements? If it was in the best interest of the shareholders then the CEO wouldn't need to make materially false statements to say it was something else. Can you imagine the scandal if something like that happened?

    Haswell Refresh Tempuratures

Guys, this non-K chip doesn't even have the TIM/package tweaks that devil's canyon does, so any improvement you are seeing here is due to something else. The reason devil's canyon is coming later is because it's running on it's own process.

Devil's Canyon or Haswell E for gaming?

Also note that the Haswell-E will require DDR4, which will have a pretty high premium if you are an early adopter of it as it won't be in great availability....you could end up spending more on DDR4 than you do on your motherboard. Once you start to factor this in the platform cost difference...
