OS install was ~3 weeks when I cloned it, I tried the fresh install but the driver situation got fubar so I switched to cloning; I didn't bench so can't so for sure but the fresh install subjectively felt like it also had slow writes.
Oh yes I understand, its just I know this drive should be...
Because even 3/5 star user reviews had the write speeds at 300 MB/s not 100, and "pro" reviews in general were actually decent. I don't use much space as I'm only using ~50GB now I found the culprit for why it was full (Origin not uninstalling properly). A 512GB SSD by Intel is almost the cost...
The drive comes over provisioned 9GB out of the box, so its really 77.5% full (94/120). I was under impression the rule was 10% free not 25%, but I got it down to 74% without including the over-provisioning (82/111). The new result was 470MB/s Read 109MB/s Write. Better but still very low...
Hello Anandtech forum users!
I got in my Corsair Force LS 120GB SSD in today and after installing it, cloning my HDD with Paragon OS Migrate and dealing with some snagging issues with having two Windows 7 boot options (after formatting old drive), everything seemed to be okay. Except... the...
I take "minimum" specs with a truckload of salt, having run Company of Heroes 2 on HD 3000 laptop graphics I'm sure my 750 ti can run this ;) (yes it may look bad and be low FPS but eh, I'm pretty tolerant).
It was bad enough in 2012 but 2013 MBA better have higher res *IPS* display, we're getting laptops like the Kirabook that can do MBA form factor (or lighter!) with HiDPi displays and every half-decent ultrabook is now 1080p IPS so a 1920 x 1200 IPS MBA is a very low bar to clear.
Haswell Macbook Air + Vinyl Stickers looks nice. Maybe just go to a general store like Best Buy and ask her which model she likes looks wise then find a right spec/price combo online?
They redesigned the chassis and removed DVD drive and switched to custom SSD ("Flash") storage, plus its non-user upgradable (to shave off weight and size as well as make more $ :P).
On my old GS 2 HD LTE, which was slow as shit cause of crap GPU + high res screen, LTE>DC-HSPA+>>>>>HSPA+. I notice a difference on a phone slower than you but the difference between it and a good DC-HSPA+ signal is that noticeable.
On my GS3 on the other hand I do notice the difference more...
Software updates (and nightly webkit) seem to have fixed the software lag for the rMBP but obviously should wait for the Haswell. The lag was more software then hardware (unless we talking BF3 lag in which case yes the 650m can't do high end gaming at the native res :P).
I would be wary of the...
You could install a SSD and more ram into the Asus cause its not totally locked down like most Ultrabooks. If its a hassle you don't want to deal with I'd rather have the ram and SSD as its not going to be a gaming PC but a PC that does a bit of gaming.
If you can wait for Haswell version then do so but if you need it you need it, its a fantastic machine and I wouldn't go for the 13 inch model because of the dramatic drop in performance.
Well Boot Camp is officially supported and advertised (used to be on TV, still on Apple site), not the same as a PITA Hackintosh and I do think future flexibility is important especially at that price range (microSD card for low storage in Surface Pro, locked down hardware of Retina models, etc).
I can see use cases but they involve individuals/businesses that really value the Drive storage it comes with, can afford a super pricey secondary laptop or really really want Retina+Touch.
I know I'm not your mother and for $329 hell yeah but am I crazy for *not* being able read on a 768p screen bigger then 12 inches cause its like looking at a screen door? I just get headaches same with iPad 1/2/Mini, desktop monitors that are sub 1080p or are 1080 and 27 inches, and smartphones...
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5996/how-the-retina-display-macbook-pro-handles-scaling
TL;DR By default its like iPad where the res is 2560 x 1600 but desktop space/ui/retina optimized apps are as though its 1280 x 800 (but can increase desktop space at cost of some processing speed and image...
I would much rather "run up the numbers" and pixel double (getting image quality and good UI scaling) then the DPI style those 1080p windows machines use.
Interesting as I'm the reverse, I find I need my phone to far more flexible as its always on my person, always connected and the the device of first and last resort while a tablet is more an appliance/fun toy that fits in between a phone and a laptop. Though I could see using an iPhone/Surface...
iPad Mini design to drop the bezel and weight to 450gish is probably the big thing but I don't see that being a worthy upgrade from 3 let alone 4 and I don't like how heavy my 3 is.
I was merely questioning why the return to an old market like desktop PCs, while they've skyrocketed up enough they probably could rest on their laurels (they're worth more than Google and MS combined IIRC), it would be good to move into another sector like TV. Question is where the balance is...
The iPad 1 is pushing over 5 times the number of pixels then the 3GS. Not a fair comparison. People were also saying the 3GS was slower on iOS 5 as well anyway (which was apparently mostly fixed in iOS6 which iPad 1 never got).
Mac Mini...? Or more importantly, iPad? Their competitor for Best Buy laptops is the iPad not a $500 Macbook.

They make the lion share of their money of the mobile market (even within Mac sales). I don't see how...
Being able to change default app (I like Safari but Mail, Maps and Clock are awful)
Not having to wait for an OS wide update or "email it to myself" to share between apps (which also gets annoying when same PDF has to be copied over to multiple apps).
And for a "petty" personal reason, I...
There's no disc drive and its 2GB soldered + one slot (8GB stick) for 10.
I would be wary of messing with the GPU considering the thermals on ultrabooks are generally high.
The rMBP is super nice piece of kit and has a smaller footprint then the Air (kinda like XPS 13 is) and makes the screens of the other two you listed look awful. I know you can get webkit nightly to fix the scrolling though I didn't notice it when scrolling a heavy website like The Verge (didn't...
SG2 is good example of that getting better and also shows that the international Exynos model got JB before any other models (don't even know if other SG2's have JB offically yet, mine doesnt :/).
