Who has the slowest rig!?

Bummer, should have asked me this a few months ago: 486 25MZ w/ 16MB RAM Did have a decent modem though (56K). Played a lot of cool games such as tetris, some Ultima games, and even warcraft a couple of times... it was blast. Ps. did you know that tetris is now in 3D? It is amazing how far...

My actual stance on Gun control and why

<< but in this information age, background checks can and are conducted instantaneously >> Heh. I doubt that (or if they do, it won't be very comprehensive). The government is usually way behind the curve. Even some rich and mighty banks do a lot of sensitive business using fax and phone -...

My actual stance on Gun control and why

Don't wait periods allow for a more thorough background check? Also, I think waiting periods are designed to give a person time to cool down in cases where a gun might be seen as the only solution... I don't think a waiting period, if the theory proves to be true, is too much to ask in this...

My actual stance on Gun control and why

<<I am just a firm believer in my right to be able to defend my life, and my family's life. >> I don't think many people would disagree, including even the most liberal. This should be the key goal for all gun legislation (including obtaining guns for hunting) IMO if there is to be any...

Why the Kyoto treaty is a very very very bad idea

I wouldn't classify that statement as "out to get".... Do you really think the EU is trying to cripple the US economy by forcing a ratification of the Kyoto Protocol? If anything, I think they are try to gain some leverage over the US so that the US doesn't act with impunity when...

Some questions about gun control.

damocles - The UK study really wasn't discussing the effects of gun control per se, so I don't see its relevance. Britian has had fairly strong gun regulations for quite some time now.

Some questions about gun control.

<< it's funny that those that let their emotions rule their arguements instead of the facts aren't posting... guess it's past their bedtimes >> Kamian - that article you posted wasn't exactly what I would call a very "factual" representation of the crime trends in Australia and Britian.

Should I give up being an engineer and become a school teacher?

Teaching is cool but tough. If you think math and diagrams were hard, just wait until you have a bunch of young folks in a room watching every move and listening to every word... testing you.... Besides, there are many engineering jobs out there that don't require heavy use of math and...

<<Then you should take responsibilty for your actions and not feel that she "owes" you something. >> I think you are talking to the wrong crowd. Most American students don't know how to take responsibility for their actions. And the sad thing is, their parents train them to think...

Why the Kyoto treaty is a very very very bad idea

It would stimulate some but no where near the unemployment that would result from it. I just don't see it. Maybe if we were talking about toppling the auto industry or something.... but as shifrbv indicates, economies change and there is always some pain associated with such changes.

Why the Kyoto treaty is a very very very bad idea

But what we dont want to do is go so drastically in one direction, our economy is greatly damaged and many people loose their jobs. Why do you think conservation will translate to lost jobs? Creating alternate energy sources might actually stimulate jobs.

<<It depends what you mean by agressivly. Be more specific. And do you support the 2 largest countries in the world to be exempt? Answer this please.>> By "aggressively" reducing emmissions I mean making sure that the world, as a whole, actually reduces emmissions in a tangible...

Why the Kyoto treaty is a very very very bad idea

I am still confused. Do you think that we, as a global community, should act aggressively to reduce greenhouse gas emmissions or not? Or does it not really matter because we will never know 100% the extend of climate instability these will cause?
23. R

Why the Kyoto treaty is a very very very bad idea

Before we talk of Kyoto, we should really discuss the purpose behind it: do you believe that, while there is no conclusive evidence that increasing man-made greenhouse gases is contributing to climate instability, the threat should not be ignored and if it is ignored there is potential of...

Mursilis - I don't think the polititians are saying you have to send your kid to a public school; it is up to the parents to decide whether or not they want to fork over the extra cash to pay for private school. I don't see anything inconsistant in much the same way that politicians who are...

In terms of teacher salaries - it is a matter of supply and demand. On one hand folks are saying we have crappy/semi-intelligent teachers, while on the other hand they are saying that teachers aren't underpaid. Well, if you want better teachers, you got to pay them more. Simple economics...

Just how Important was it for you to be Popular in High School ?

Popularity was never really an issue at our HS. There never was a "popular" crowd or a "geeky" crowd. There certainly were groups of friends, but they tended to be broken down into "Christian/Hindus/Rebels" line. Our school was fairly insular, being located in...
