Why is my benchmark so low??

So, I went into the power settings and recognized it was set to eco-balanced. This must have caused the processor to underclock itself to save power. I ran it again and came back with a smooth 3786 rating on the CPU mark. :)

Why is my benchmark so low??

OK, so I didn't know the TDP was such an important value. It is a laptop vs a desktop, so that makes sense. But, I'm still baffled because even the comparison for the i5 in the link you provided is 3544... my bench was 1426 and 1396 when I ran it a second time! Why on earth is my score less...

Why is my benchmark so low??

The answer might be obvious in the hardware, but I don't get it. I thought this computer was pretty decent until I ran a benchmark test on it and it came back with surprisingly low marks on everything. I was only curious because it the browsing seems considerably slower than my desktop with a...

    What happened to my PC?

Late last night, I noticed my mouse was hanging up on the screen. This NEVER happens, the PC has a solid 8GB of ram, and I didn't notice the CPU pushing past 60% load. I heard a clicking noise coming from the tower, so I assumed something was wrong with an HDD. But, my first instinct is...

    Bad Firmware on 5-6TB Seagates?

Can you show me the 6TB Seagate 7200? The one I see on Amazon is supposedly 5900, even though it doesn't explicitly state the drive speed.

    Bad Firmware on 5-6TB Seagates?

Sorry guys, I made a mistake. The reviews I was reading were also piled in with older models, and the specific review I read on Amazon was about a 1TB model. That being said, does anyone have a preference between the Seagate 6TB and the WD Red 6TB? BTW, I won't be using it with RAID or a NAS...

    Bad Firmware on 5-6TB Seagates?

I'm reading some bad feedback about the 5-6TB Seagate Internal HDDS. Something about a known firmware problem. Can anyone should some more light on this. I was ready to purchase one, but now I'm scared.

Toshiba Satellite C55-C5240 >> Memory Upgrade?

I just got this little guy on Amazon for a nice sale price of $449, and it's got some pretty decent specs: 5th gen i5 core, 8GB Ram and a 1TB HDD 5400. If anyone's interested, here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satellite-C55-C5240-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00VFY8LY2/ref=zg_bsnr_565108_1...

Well, I tried your suggestion everyday for the last few days and no luck. Thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated. I went ahead an bought myself a nice budget value notebook -- the Toshiba Satellite C55-C5240. It's a nice little upgrade, so I'm cool with everything. :)

Installed new memory...now computer won't even boot.

So far no luck. I took it into the Geek Squad, and they seem to believe the motherboard is shot, because they tried plugging in their AC adapter, and none of the power-light indicators was doing anything. He suggested I leave the battery out overnight and give it a shot tomorrow, so I'm...

Installed new memory...now computer won't even boot.

Well, I tried the method, but no magic... :[ So you think I shorted the battery somehow? You don't think it's something more serious like the motherboard? I'm getting ready to take it over to GeekSquad.

Installed new memory...now computer won't even boot.

Hi all, any help would be greatly appreciated. First thing I did was unlock the battery, but then I placed it back in like a neophite, so I didn't remove it like I was supposed to. I removed the old memory and placed the new one inside. I closed the hatch, turned it over.... and it won't...

    Laptop Overheating

My laptop is a 2008 model Dell Inspiron 1420. I noticed early it always ran kind of hot, so I assume the cooling system design is not very good on this model. The unit started getting even hotter about a year ago, until I started getting crashes and messages about the CPU temperature being...

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

Awesome. And, these extension power cables don't cause any extra load on the PSU that it couldn't handle if the connectors were separate, right? Great stuff, I feel pretty good about everything.. Thanks!!!!!!!

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

Hey I found a nice guide that explains PSUs on newegg, so I understand better how to connect all drives.. Molex to SATA converters for additional drives, or connector splitters to combine drives to one connection. http://www.newegg.com/product/Catego...?articleId=199 It seems people the more...

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

OK. I'll take that into consideration. Even though this motherboard does have an integrated GPU with VGA, and I may run it headless after all. Regarding the PSU's. I noticed the first one has connectors for 4 SATA. How do I connect the additional ones if I run 8 total drives? And how does...

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

Thank you for your suggestion. But, why do you think the PC is low performance? The CPU is a Pentium D 3.0GHz. I was hoping that would sufficient for running just a server. I was expecting to hear that I would need to add some fans or something to provide more cooling, or that the standard...

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

OK, I'm starting to get it. A good motherboard will include the gigabit ethernet interface and support for enough hard drives. Like this motherboard from BioStar (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138353) Let's say I end up with 8 drives. This motherboard is only capable of...

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

Dave's more on my level with my needs. I really don't need a dedicated server rack, but a tower case that houses 6-10 drives would be enough. It is for home use and access FTP from outside network. OK, so my understanding is I need these components for this kind of build: - Computer Case...

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

Alright, so this chassis is like a computer case designed for servers. 20-bays is a lot, but I like it. Seems I would still need standard components such as a motherboard and ethernet interface. Do you know of a guide to help me build one from scratch using this model? I'm still unsure of...

What is this enclosure missing to make it server capable?

Hi, Newbie question here. Trying to officially set-up my first file server. Been researching between different units to house the hard drives in between raid enclosures and buying a case to build my own unit. What I want to know is, if I got an enclosure like this one (link at the bottom)...

Formating 3TB HD in GUID -- Drive won't display if moved.

After that scary reply, I was left with no choice but to contact SilverStone and get to the bottom of this. Turns out the unit does not support this enclosure and 3TB drives, as it was meant for 2TB and lower. Disappointing considering that isn't what the description says. Nonetheless, I...

Formating 3TB HD in GUID -- Drive won't display if moved.

Hi Nothinman, thanks for replying. Ejecting the drive... I turned off the computer and turned off the enclosure, then disconnected the drive. Pretty standard to how I handle any other drive move, and have never had this issue. The unrecognized or "lost" partition result not only happened when...

Formating 3TB HD in GUID -- Drive won't display if moved.

I read that you shouldn't format a drive over 2TB in MBR because Windows 7 (which I'm using) will not show the full space of the drive. So, I installed 2 new 3TB hard drives in an external enclosure and connected it through USB 3. I had no problems formatting the drive in GUID and was ready...

Actually, my needs are bigger than the 3TB. I'm looking to start with two 2TB drives and two 3TB drives... in RAID 1 giving me 2 arrays for a total of 5TB. I'm still left with this dilemma about choosing an enclosure since the consensus with these Sans Digital enclosures is not to use...

Scared to buy RAID enclosure because of HDD type

Hey, Hellhammer. Well, I kind of see your point. Like, if 1 drive starts corrupting then the data will be mirrored to the next drive right? On the other hand, I can't think about a better solution for back-up when we're talking about 2-3tb of data per array that changes daily. That means I'd...

Do I Even Need a PCI Controller for RAID if using Windows 7?

Just to make sure correctly, that is if I was to buy an enclosure that would connect to my desktop via USB 2.0 or 3.0, correct? Because, my desktop does not have a preexisting eSATA connection, so I would need to install a PCI card to connect it that way. And lastly, it appears that some of...
