Congrats! And once you get it a up and running and kicking ass in a game, you won't are a bit that you paid just a lil more. It's about enjoying yourself at that point.
Someone made this suggestion to me and I scoffed at first..but I just took advantage of the NewEgg deal..can't wait. I'll post my results once it's all assembled and running.
So you're saying get a mobo that can handle 64GB and fill that bad boy up?! :colbert:
:P
Seriously though...makes sense to me. Sounding like I should just get 2x4GB and leave the slots open for the just-in-case factor.
Okay..so I'm still not clear.
I'm building a new Ivy Bridge system..purely for PC gaming (I use my Mac for everything else).
I'm getting a mobo that supports 32GB with four RAM slots. Should I get 8GB(2x4) or 16GB in either 4x4 or 2x8 to allow room for expansion later?
And if it...
Not yet. I bought via online but have to pick up in my local store. I was going to ask what combo deals they had...is there any way to see that info online?
That's kind of what I was thinking, mfenn.
That's why I am just going with 2x4GB on RAM, leaving the other two slots open. Also the recommended ASRock mobo, while a great value, only had 2 SATA 6 ports and only one PCIe 3.0 slot...which would be maxxed right away with a SSD and HDD. So I am...
Thanks for the great responses and advice, mfenn.
You've just about got me sold on a 27" 2560x1440 monitor (dell ultra)...does it change the recommendation on RAM or processor cooling? I want to be able to turn on all the graphical goodies while running at max rez of 2560x1440.
Thank again for the feedback..just a few questions.
I went with the Asus because there was an excellent comparo showing all of the 670s and the Asus was deadly quiet.
When you say G.Skill is fine, does that mean performance/OC/compatibility or are on par with corsair?
The 1.5TB Seagate...
Okay, updated per advice here and in mid-range thread. Thoughts?
MOBO: Asus P8Z77-V Pro (for the built in wifi and good ratings)
PSU: Corsair TX650
Case: Corsair 400R
GPU: ASUS GTX 670
CPU: Intel i5-3570k
CPU Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3...
Great feedback. I appreciate the extensive thoughts. I hadn't seen the Catleap monitor before. Those are incredible. But that brings up two points: wouldn't I need the 670 to adequately power that resolution and display MMOs are max rez? And secondly, those 2560x1440 seem to only be buyable...
The 21.5 has less space between pixels and there for the images look a bit better on screen. I know it's a trade off with a larger monitor at same resolution but I like the denser look. ;)
And I forgot to mention, I'd be fine with a bigger/higher rez monitor. But I want IPS for viewing angle...
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Gaming. Just glorious gaming. Mostly MMOs.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
Approximately $1500. But $2000 if there is good reason.
