Lian Li PC-A10B Fan Filters?

I just use Bounce dryer sheets. My older PC had filters made from a spare furnace filter. They worked just fine. My friend has those filterRights (the 2nd one you linked to) and they are OK but 6 bucks for it, meh.

Cheap intel quad core! $334

Just FYI if you are serious about building a Xeon system, that Gigabytye board doesn't have 16x PCi-e PHYSICAL slot so it's useless for a desktop system. The asus board i linked to has a 16x physical slot, but only runs at 8x. AFAIK the Asus board is the cheapest xeon 5100 board that has a 16x slot.

The answer IS obvious, you're just reading too much into it............... Lots of people say "5U tower" for short when they refer to 5U units that can be used as either tower or rack mountable (horizontally of course). It's a hell of a lot more convenient than saying "tower or 5U rack...

Why are rackmounts so damned deep?

Cooling is more than the sum of its parts. One 1U unit can cool itself, but when you have 40 of em packed into a single cabinet, it's a whole other beast. Most 42U sized units are built for eatx so like zepper said it's a minimum of 23 inches and most are at least 30". For what you want to...

What exactly are you looking to build? First post you ask about 1U/2U rackmount. Next post you link to a massive 42U enclosure. Third post you want the shallowest rackmount you can buy. Are you actually looking to build a 42U sized unit? Most 42U cabinets are that deep to hold the large cooling...

Agreed, built 3 systems this year with that board. One of the best overclocking AM2 boards out there, but more importantly I didn't have any incompatibility problems with the board so no headaches getting it up and running.

Any middle of the pack video card should suffice. I would increase the RAM from 2GB to 4GB. Programs like Avid seem to like 4 gigs a lot.

Is the new 65nm X2s gonna be hot or cold item?

Exactly, hot for AMD but minimal impact to the end user. It might help the average overclock though. Going from 130 to 90 the average overclock seemed to be bumped up another 200-400 mhz IIRC. Not enough to overtake Intel but still nice.

Anyone wanna see a small AnandTech review of Xeon 775?

What's the point it's the same chip as a regular Core 2. As far as overclocking potential, they would have to overclock more than just one Xeon to show a trend, which they aren't gonna do.

The 200mm fan should actually not make much of a differnce noise wise. I've seen other cases with 25cm side fans and the side fan is by far the quietest fan in the whole setup.

Theres more to processing power than games. Look at some of the encoding and rendering (as in professional CGI not games) benchmarks the Conroe clearly leads. As far as AMD goes, there's always gonna be a "chase and be chased" situation between the two so I don't think Intel is any better or...

Is Steel or Aluminum better for Cases

I like aluminum not because of the material but because most higher end cases are aluminum so build quality tends to be better. If my lian-li were built with steel but up to the same quality as the aluminum verison I wouldn't mind really. As for the weight, if a steel case is really straining...

What overclocks better? 90w or 65w?

I've read about people getting the EE's up to around 3ghz, same as the regular X2's. The bottom line is from what I've seen 3ghz (air cooling) or so is pretty much what any 90nm K8 can do before a hard wall is hit.

The MSI board is priced right but I am kinda iffy on the BIOS. From all the reviews I've read I really don't like the way they did the overclocking options in there. Thats the only thing holding me back from buying it. I'm really hoping the epox RD580 board comes out soon.............

Nah, it's different. Chemical paint stripper is toxic so if you use it it you will also need get protective gear like rubber gloves, goggles, mask etc. Plus it leaves a huge goopy mess and stinks to high hell. But it really does work well. I've used it on automotive parts that have been painted...

It isn't really necessary to remove the existing paint. You can just scuff the old paint with some sandpaper and then paint over it and it'll be fine. I guess if you really want to remove the old paint you can get some liquid paint stripper from a paint store. It gets kinda messy though.

Because AMD said so on their official roadmap? Plus AMD said they would only "demonstrate" a quad core part by the end of the year. It would be at least several months after demonstration that an actual product rollout would happen if history holds true. So if they were to release some quad core...

That is fuzzy math at best............ Multi-threaded apps don't necessarily distribute processing load evenly through all it's threads. And your 40% assumption is....ridiculous. How did you even come up with that? So a theoretical 8-core core 2 server will have and 80% processing...
