    I was thinking more of the wife downstairs trying to watch the TV. The subwoofer on the floor was pounding (apparently). So its not too bad noise wise on my desk. It just takes up a lot of space and that is why I was thinking of going for something without the woofer.

    Thanks guys, its working now! The Sata cable wasn't fully connected to the drive. I only opened the case as a last resort as I assumed all was fine because the drive was opening and closing! Strange huh?
