Clark Connect Enterprise will do what you need, the PITA is when it comes to the mail side it gets a little weird. But currently I am doing this at one of the businesses that I support and it is working great (once I complete the rest of the migration :)

The DUH part that you are missing is that MS disallows the keys that are on the OEM stickers that go on systems. So that sticker does not even have the "one" activation that you think it does on it, which is why calling in and talking to MS doesn't work either way. as they are saying that it...
Something else to think about is that CF has a write life. You may want to investigate using a RAM disk for the squid logs or else you could wear out your CF card fairly quickly.

are you directly editing the smb.conf? if you are then STOP and use the web interface that they provide, as that will be much easier. if you only have eth0 then you will have to shut down iptables (iptable -F) then access it by

and log in wth root uname and...

especially when you have X installed but only run at init 3(on a RH box). So X is there is you want to use it via ssh on cygwin-X or if you need to sit down and start the X server to fix something that is turkeyed up.
I hvae found this to be an interesting converstation to...
Good chance that the problem may be the AGP connector on the board. Ensure that you seat the card well and verify that everything is seated correctly. But by the sounds of it, I would guess that the AGP slot maybe on it's way out. The reason that you didn't have trouble before is that the TNT...
I have heard that the V4 can have flashing issues too so be careful. Supposedly you can't backstep them enough to get OpenWRT on them. there is a thread on the Triangle Linux Users Group (trilug.org) mailing list that covers the details.
Panther505.
I think that mine has been up without a reboot since about the 22 of August.
Yes that means no updates but since it never sees the web and has no email client on it. I don't worry about it (my primary box is a linux box, this one is only to do video capture on).
I only reboot when I...
Ummm the forum that MS provides to the beta testers?!... ie the only place that you are supposed to be talking about it since you signed the NDA... You are a legit beta tester right?

Quick guess would be that you are getting a DHCP timeout? If you have networking setup and booting is taking a long time... I always look to network as the source of the problem. I would set a static IP and see if it boots quicker (or disable the network card for a boot or two).

He didn't- you did. The point is that running on a system in a day to day roll as an Administrator user is not a good security model. Just because that is what Microsoft sets up by default, does not make it the best pratices.
True. They do that so that a normal user can't do bad things on...
Sunner,
You must have enjoyed pain and suffering. I remember KDE 2.2 on RedHat something of other... that was pain and I had a corp token ring to download from.

so a straight modprobe fglrx works but adding it to autoload doesn't? how bout once you have it build doing a depmod -a and then retrying. It could be that the modules.dep list may not have fglrx and depmod -a will help you out with that by rebuilding the list.

Well if you are so sure of it why the b!tchin' here? Just buck up and do it. I understand what your complaining about but to me, spending the time reading on how to do something pays a higher divend in the long run. I can and have spent the time reading and to me, the amount of time that I...
Actually 4 of the 5 systems that are in my office now have int video... and using a RH distro (FC or RHEL) will get you kudzu, which generally will fix the problem for you. SuSE will do the same with YAST2.
I agree that custom kernels can get you into trouble and can cause problems with...
Have you ever swapped a mobo out from one linux system to another? I have swapped whole chipsets (always staying on HW RAID) and NEVER had any issues. Very rarely do you need to go with the same board. If it were windows then yes but if you haven't done it with linux before then you ought to...
are you running them as a raid array? If so then you will need to have the driver disk handy and press F6 when you get the "inspecting your hardware" prompt then in a little bit it will ask you for the driver to install, put in the disk, and off you will go. My guess is that it is a newer SATA...
the other option is to press 'e' in grub and add a 3 to the end of the line. Then it will boot into cli. Log in and cd into /etc/X11 from there you will need to backup the old config. and make sure that you know the Hsync and VertRefresh of the monitor.
now once you have moved the config...
are you hooked directly to you cable modem? If so then that is a REALLY BAD idea for a freshly installed system. I would get your Firewall app, burn it to a CD and then reinstall, installing the firewall prior to attaching the network. That way you can fend of the malware until you get the...
none... No OEMs ship what you would consider a full version of XP with their systems, at least from an install media standpoint. All installs that they do are OEM media installs done with and OPK. The restore or reload function basically does a reinstall + all OEM customizations. If you want...
Clark Connect is the way to go. I do not know what the minimums are but it has no X and you do the config via web front end or an ncurses interface. It is based on RH 9 and is available in 2 flavors. www.clarkconnect.org
I think that nothingman hit it on the head. This was a problem that I saw earlier this year with the first W2K3 install that my IT pple did. Have your linux user try to log in using smbclient and see what it says. If it is the signing then you will see the error there. Also what version of...
you can reinstall the base kernel that came with the system by either booting the cd in rescue mode and pulling the kerenel from the web or if you ran up2date or yum you could pull the kernel from /var and install it. My suggestion would be to boot in rescue mode, allow the network to start...
Is this a IA-64 Windows XP cd or is the the Beta? if it is the beta then there might be a problem with the image but if you are trying the IA-64 image on a x86_64 system then that is your problem. Verify what version of the OS that you truely have and then start from there..

e2label syntax is -
e2label device label (ex e2label /dev/hda1 / )
or you can change it in the fstab to be /dev/hda1 and then change the kernel line to say root=/dev/hda1 also

Grub problems (is it grub or lilo).
If it is grub then I would boot from disk one of the 3 CD set and type "linux rescue" at the prompt. If you have both hard drives in there it will make it easier but if you can discern what partition the root (/) partition is on you can do...
Uhhh no... the OS on the game installation will *see* the one on the work partition unless you jump through hoops to get it to not. If you dwnld a virus on the game partition then you are almost assured that it will end up on the work partition. You may get by because it will not be able to...
You can/could get Debian support from IBM the same way that you can from HP. You have to have a support contract with IGS, or you have to have bought the servers in that config with Debian on them from IBM. Seen 'em, tested 'em and unfortunately supported 'em.

The VIA *may* work... but I know know as I am not using VIA on this system. Promise may be hit or miss either. Sorry that I can't be more help but my suggestion would be to try a knoppix on the system and see if it boots. Then lspci and spend some quality time with google. That is the only...
It will run (I say as I sit here typing on one -- AMD64 dualie that is). There may or may not be some issues with SATA. If the SATA coontroller is a discrete part (ie not on the AMD Southbridge) then you will have to make sure that it is supported. If you are using SCSI then you will just...
Or the other option is to use the Windows Catalog. On the Window Update page select personalize and you will see a box to check... Select that then on the left hand frame of the Windows update page you can select Windows Catalog. Search and download without installing to your hearts content.
One the system and look to see if you have any capacitors that are bulging on the motherboard. If so then you will need to replace them or the board. Look immediately around the CPU as they are the most likely to be the problem..
I could post my company IT policy if it wasn't confidential (and 236 pages). Suffice to say we (as users) are expected to comply. Once a year wee electronically sign Guidline for Conduct. If we violate these guidlines then we can be terminated. That said, as an administrator for my own...
