Code signing is part of it yeah, but it also has a reputation service that examines the exe and trys to protect the user from themselves.
This gets really fun when you are trying to download, say, a cryptominer for actual intended use, as the exe's are used for hacking/mining all the time.

I don't miss the start button honestly. I freaked in DP, but by RP I was ok. Now I don't use icons on my desktop or miss the start button. I have 2 22 inch monitors on my desktop, non-touch. It took me about 20 minutes to stop freaking out and 'get' the vision.
Windows 8 also introduces a higher number range, so the scale isn't correct between Windows 7 and 8, I would expect some numbers to be a little lower...
My two systems ETL traces (these are authoritative traces to judge CPU usage/latency, etc) and the two I've had xscess upload do not reflect the same DPC latency as the tool that is being quoted on this forum. I can't address this more but have turned it over to folks that can. More info...
So I was reading one of the graphs wrong in WPA, the latency I see is max around 200us...Working with some folks internally to look at the trace submitted on this thread.
I'm curious, if disabling all Network interfaces fixes this. Educated guess. I haven't seen anyone's traces but from my own machines (AMD FX 8120 and an Intel Core i7 2640m) and I think I might perceive a pattern in ETW analysis here. But I need more depth I think.
I should have posted instructions on how to collect the trace with WPR, my bad. Had a busy weekend :)
The WPR should have an "Audio Glitch" scenario capture profile in it. Just capture and then let it run and for say a minute and stop it.
Zip and PM me and we'll get in touch.
Thanks,
Jeff
Hello, does anyone have ETW trace data proving this? I'd love to take a look at any etl files created with WPR or xperf that prove this high DPC. I'm going to do some examination on my systems at home to see as well. But really want to see if anyone that sees this problem in 3rd party tools...
