I bought one of the Pacific Digital 8x8x32 drives a few months ago.
The box said 8x8x24 on the outside and I had bought it because Pacific Digital had been putting Yamaha 8x8x24 drives (4 MB buffer) in those boxes.
It was a Samsung SW-408B (2 MB buffer) inside the box I bought.
The drive works...
If you read the technical specifications on the SyncMax 32x4 DIMMs at this location
http://www.syncmax.com/PDF/TN011801_256_32Mx4_compatible.pdf
you will see that it does not work in motherboards with Intel chipsets.
ASUS has a 3-year warranty like Intel.
ASUS does try to get consumers to return motherboards to the reseller first though.
The 3-year warranty is one of the reasons I bought an ASUS motherboard to replace my ABIT motherboard.
ABIT only has a one-year warranty.
PCtel chipset modems are Host Signal Processing (HSP) and not very good.
I sold or gave away all of them I had long ago.
You can download reference drivers for those modems at
http://www.pctel.com/drivers_agreement.htm
I arrived at the local Fort Worth CompUSA store about five minutes after they opened on Sunday and all the PC133 DIMMs were already gone.
I managed to purchase two of the PC100 CAS2 DIMMs though, which will work for my immediate needs.
I noticed that the chips on the two DIMMs I purchased were...
I have an I/O Magic (nVidia) TNT2-M64 32-megabyte AGP video card I am using in my home computer that has an ASUS CUSL2 motherboard with 700 MHz Pentium III processor and a Compaq MV920 19-inch monitor that supports up to 1600x1200 resolution at 75 MHz.
I am running Windows 2000 Professional.
I...
I had a similar experience with my ABIT BX6-Revision 2.0 motherboard in the summer of 2000.
I finally gave up and bought an ASUS CUSL2 to replace the ABIT BX6-Revsion 2.0 motherboard.
A few months later I tried out the ABIT BX6-Revision 2.0 motherboard again and it worked.
The ABIT BX6-Revision...
I received my package today, and it is as 'HiroWorship' described (an OEM-type software pack).
There are no UPC codes on anything so no one is going to get any mail-in rebates off this deal but the price is right anyway.
The state tax software rebate does not concern me since I live in Texas...
The Archtek 5634PEW modem uses the ESS 2898S chipset, which is a controllerless chipset.
The details can be found at http://www.esstech.com
and specifically at http://www.esstech.com/product/Communications/modem%20products.pdf
This is a very, very good controllerless modem, but it is not a full...
I ordered this deal on January 12.
They sent me a U.P.S. tracking number, and somthing is on schedule to arrive at my house on January 18 based on the U.P.S. tracking number.
Hopefully the item in shipment is exactly as advertised.
I did not buy all the local Fort Worth (Hulen) store's stock, just seven at $4.88 plus tax each since I can think of that many relatives' or friends' computers that could use one.
There were three or four more of the Archtek modems left on the store's shelves, but the CompUSA salesman who asked...
If you cannot find the WinModem deal try this one for a $4.88 SmartLink modem at CompUSA:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=313086
I did not realize the SmartLink 5634PEW modems were on sale on CompUSA again until I just saw this thread.
I already have two SmartLink 5634PEW modems I bought in 1999 with mail-in rebates, but this deal even better because I do not have to wait a few months for the rebate checks.
I sold a...
Even though I recently upgraded to a 8x8x32 Pacific Digital (Samsung 408) CD writer, I decided to order one of these for my second home computer since there is the $30 coupon and $30 rebate.
The Staples order seemed to go normally, the coupon was accepted, and the order screen appeared to...
Since I just bought a Pacific Digital (Samsung 408) 8x8x32 CD writer and do not have any CD-RW media rated over 4x, this seems like a good deal since any CD-RW media rated over 4x seems hard to find.
I would probably order some from the site, except the site wants all your billing information...
I just ordered the Kingston 128MB PC133 CL3 at outpost.com for $69.99 minus a $20 mail-in rebate.
The quality of the PC100 CL2 and PC133 CL3 RAM is probably about the same, but I plan to run a 133 MHz FSB processor eventually so I will not buy any more RAM that BIOS will not detect as PC133.
The Maxtor 30GB hard disk drive for $99 was not in the weekend sale flyer, but when I was in the Fort Worth, Texas, Best Buy this afternoon (Friday) I saw two of them in the locked case just as some guy was buying them.
The clerk was commenting on the good deal and the fact that they were the...
I just bought the Pacific Digital 8x8x24x CD-R/CD-RW drive at the post-Thanksgiving sale at Circuit City this morning for $99.99 after rebates.
I was expecting to get the Yamaha 8x8x24x CD-R/CD-RW drive with a 4 megabyte write buffer which Pacific Digital had been putting in these boxes.
When I...
I finally got it to work (I think) using Netscape 6.0 when Internet Explorer 5.0x would not let me finish buying my Compaq 19-inch monitor at Mercata last Friday.
I know I got the Passport and Mercata new customer discount because it was on my confirmation, but the ebate account does not show...

http://www.syncmax.com
has a pretty good Adobe Acrobat dcoument at http://www.syncmax.com/PDF/TN001025_256_32Mx4_compatible.pdf
which tells about the incompatibility with most motherboards
of the SyncMax (or other brand) 256 MB modules that use the high density 32x4 chips.
The only problem with...
The I/O Magic MagicQuad V6 sound card uses the ESS Allegro-1 (ES1989) chip also.
I bought one of the I/O Magic MagicQuad V6 sound cards at CompUSA, but returned it for a refund when I found that the Windows 2000 drivers only support two channel playback.
The four channel playback only works...
I used my coupon to get the same Diablo 2 game for $19.99 today.
The cashier at the Fort Worth, Texas, Best Buy store had to ask the manager about the coupon.
The manager at the Fort Worth, Texas, Best Buy store was cool and seemed to know all about the coupon and getting it printed off the Web.
Just a warm deal.
Best Buy in Fort Worth, Texas, had two of those sound cards in their open box section.
I already have one or I would have bought one of them.
I noticed that Texas Instruments has some
information on discontinued calculators at
http://www.ti.com/calc/docs/otherp.htm.
I do not see how I could use any of these new
interfaces with my old TI-58C and TI-59 calculators.
It has been a while since I was in college and
needed most of the...
The last time buy.com had the C20 on sale I checked with Xerox about Windows 2000 compatibility.
Their reply is below:
-----------------------
Thank you for your message.
Although we do not yet have a Windows 2000 driver, we do have a
workaround that enables you to use your DocuPrint C20 with...
I am looking for a really good deal on a 256 megabyte PC133 DIMM, but NOT the kind with the 32x4 chips that do not work properly in Intel BX or 815 chipset motherboards like the Zeus ones advertised at...
If you need additional security protection and are using Internet Explorer 5, just set it so that Secure Socket Layer pages are not cached on the hard disk drive and 0 days history is retained, plus delete positively the cookies and history every time the browser is used.
This makes the 'back'...
I read that the Delta 50X CD-ROM drive has a problem with the copy protection system on Diablo 2 CDs, and that the next patch of Diablo 2, 1.04, is supposed to fix the problem.
I had a similar problem running an older, slower CD burner drive under Windows NT 4.0.
Other operating systems like Windows 98 and Windows 2000 were more forgiving.
Trying to write to the CD burner drive with DMA enabled under Windows NT 4.0 resulted in a 'Blue Screen of Death' every time...
Based on my personal experience with an ABIT BX6-Revision 2 motherboard and a friend's experience with an ABIT BE6 motherboard, as well as some other ABIT motherboard users' input there is a common quirk with ABIT motherboards, at least Intel Slot 1 BX chipset boards:
After being used for a few...
I recently sold my full retail version of Windows NT 4.0 Workstation cheap (I now use Windows 2000 Professional) since I had registered my copy so the new buyer could not get any 'free' Microsoft support.
Windows NT 4.0 only got 90 days unlimited telephone support and I think even that was cut...
I have the other two slower models of I/O Magic MagicWriter CD-R/CD-RW drives.
The two I own are reliable but the slower one (which I am in the process of selling) sometimes has trouble with DMA mode for packet writing.
I/O Magic does not manufacture anything, and just re-marks various...
:D
I got the last 50-pack spindle of 80-minute 4x CD-RW media at the local Fort Worth, TX, CompUSA today.
The clerk I asked told me that they would be getting more in stock since they were so popular.
50 should last me at least until I get a faster CD-RW drive.
Elsa Gloria Synergy Windows 2000 drivers
The Permedia 2 video card drivers on the Windows 2000 CD only provide DirectX hardware acceleration, not OpenGL.
Supposedly the Elsa Gloria Synergy drivers provide OpenGL hardware acceleration under Windows 2000 for the Elsa Gloria Synergy (3DLabs...
I gambled that their stock status was correct this time and I ordered one.
I guess I can cancel the back-ordered Startech slotket I ordered last month before they discovered it was really out of stock even though their Web site said it was in stock.
