Hi guys,
I'm doing a fresh Skylake i7-6700K build. I have a Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7 board, and a Samsung 950 Pro Nvme M.2 SSD, which is my boot drive for Windows 10 and all other programs. And instead of directly plugging into the mobo's m.2 slot, I'm using the Lycom DT-120 M.2 PCIe to PCIe...
Thanks. I've had the unlimited plan for over 5 yrs, but I rarely used over 3GB. I kept it in case my data usage increased in the future. But at almost $100/mo, it's a very expensive "insurance" policy. It's too bad I can no longer transfer the UDP to someone else who might take advantage of it...
How can I do this? Just pop in the SIM card once I get it without activating? Or is there some step in the activation process I need to pay attention to? If I don't port my number over, do I just get assigned some new random number? And it's possible to port my number over later?
BTW, thanks...
This plan sounds like my best bet so far. I've already started the process by ordering the SIM card (for $0.99)
So it seems I will need to choose the $30 plan during the activation process, after receiving the SIM card?
Do you know how tethering would work on this Plan?
Also, how does the...
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help on deciding on a new smartphone plan.
I've been on Verizon's unlimited data plan for a long time. Prior to their $20 raise for grandfathered unlimited data customers, I was paying a very reasonable $69.99 / mon ($75 after taxes) for the following
450...
After a bit more research, I think I've found an even more optimal solution: Put the Samsung 950 pro into a M.2 to PCI-E adapter, and put that in the second PCIEx16 slot of the mobo. That way I can take advantage of the the higher performance of the 950 pro (vs the Intel 750), and have dedicated...
Thanks Insert_Nickname, I did some research into this DMI 3.0 link and it was very enlightening.
I get what you're saying now. So if I want to make full use of two high-end SSD's, the second drive should use one of the PCIe X16 slots, correct?
So for example, I can have one Samsung 950 pro...
From what I've read, the 2nd M.2 slot only shares bandwidth with the last PCIe x16 slot, and that's the tradeoff. I can either have a 2nd M.2 drive, or something in the last PCIe x16 slot. But I can certainly have two M.2 ssd drives going at once.
I'm planning a $1500-ish Skylake build (to be complete around Q1 of 2016),
I've settled on a lot of the crucial components already:
Core i5 6600K
MSI Radeon R9 390 GPU
Samsung 950 PRO Nvme m.2 SSD
But I'm unsure on a mobo. If I had to choose one right now, it would be the Gigabyte...
Thanks for the info. Never realized that there was such a tradeoff.
By mass photo processing, I mean Adobe Lightroom - importing lots of photos in a session, editing, and exporting in batch. I'm sure a build with any decent recent components will be fine with Photoshop, but Lightroom is a...
I've been running on a Core i7 860 rig for almost 6 years now, and I think the time is right to upgrade, now that Skylake is out. I'm looking to build a fairly high-end rig with a budget of around $1500. I need something that can handle mass photo processing well, on top of being just an...
No OIS is indeed unfortunate, but not a deal breaker. They gotta cut corners somewhere to get to that price point.
Nexus phones are a non-starter due to no SD slot.
Didn't see a thread on this so I might as well create it, as this phone is just a weeks away from being released. This phone is getting a lot of attention on other sites, and it certainly warrants the hype.
In short, we are talking about a $400 phone with premium specs and unique attributes...
Good to know, thanks. I suppose the follow-up question would be is handwriting using the pen any faster/better than the normal keyboard, especially with swipe? I get the feeling that it would be slower and more cumbersome in most situations for text input.
Got a basic question regarding the Galaxy Note phones. I might consider a Note 5 whenever Samsung releases. I'd like to know if the usefulness of the S-pen is limited only to apps that specifically are coded for it, or will it work in general for all apps (if nothing else, as a more precise...
So I'm still using my old Galaxy S3. And I've dabbled a little bit with the voice command features of the phone, but I find it lacking (the speed & the accuracy), and generally not worth the effort.
So I've been paying attention to new phones and any advancements to voice commands. It's...
I've held off on updating my Maps to the latest overhaul, after all the negative noise it made and all kinds of features being disabled from the previous version.
Did Google address those issues? Is it finally a safe time to upgrade Maps? Anything I should be aware of still?
Oh yeah, I remember reading something about this. This (along with the Intel hybrid demo) makes it not much of a leap to get to what I'm envisioning.
Now we just need to see some sexy true zero-bezel displays with smart-frames, virtual bezels, touch-rejection, or whatever.
This is about...
There's already plenty of different resolutions across various current display/devices:
http://www.rapidtables.com/web/dev/screen-resolution-statistics.htm
I don't see this as causing too big of an problem. The Android OS is pretty robust when it comes to supporting many different resolutions.
Yeah, it'd be perfect for just about any tablet.
There is no current tablet that has a OLED display though, right? I wonder what's the hold-up there. Cost over LCD?
That might work too, for video at least.
For other stuff like web browsing, where the controls are all on the edges, I feel we will still need black bezels and the effective display to shrink appropriately when bezels are enabled.
I have conflicting feelings about bezels.
On one hand, I want as little bezels as possible to maximize the display area for any given physical dimension. So I'd like a zero-bezel smartphone with a big screen (say a 5.5" display) that's physically the same dimension as a Galaxy S4.
On the...
I already have a small 7" tablet for hand held use. But I envision a need for a much bigger screen that's still portable, mostly for watching videos and I can plop it down in front of me anywhere I go.
It doesn't need to be high-rez or high spec: 720p will do just fine, and previous-gen tech...
Thing's I'm looking forward to in a single phone:
- Better built-in speakers (a la HTC One)
- Stylus and related features (Note series)
- Touchless control (Moto X)
- Optional finger print scanner
- 16hr screen-on battery life (removable battery becomes unnecessary)
- 64 GB built-in...
hmm, I take it you're referring to this:
http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-10035...ile+Video+Card
My concern is that this is too long for the insides of my case... I'll need to take some measurements
I'm looking to beef up my GPU power, but I'm limited by available space in my micro-ATX tower
This is my current card (Radeon HD 4670):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-244-_-Product
It is low profile (height and length) and takes up only 1 slot, which was perfect. But it's really...
Thanks, that was enlightening. I hadn't considered the length of data transmission.
I guess I'll just need to be satisfied with a 1440p screen until they get such issues solved and bring 4k resolutions at a reasonable cost (I'd say within 4 yrs).
