Display Problems Win98SE

Your monitor is not getting any video signal from the PC. I really doubt it has anything to do with the monitor, and I'm positive its is not a win98se problem. Sounds like you have set up something wrong when building the PC. Reseat all components, reset bios, double check jumper settings, etc...

VIA 4in1 drivers

Just bought an Epox 8KTA2 mobo and a voodoo 5500. Is it necessary to always install the 4in1 drivers, or are these only if you experience any problems? I am running Windows ME.

Radeon 64 (Awesome!!!) Geforce 2 GTS 64 (yawn...)

I bought a radeon 64 and I love it, but I really doubt there is all that much difference in the cards. In fact, if the V5 was available for $145 about a month ago I would have bought it instead. With new cards coming out every 6 months it makes more sense to get the best price/performance card...

ATI Radeon 64MB DDR

Another suggestion might be the Voodoo 5500. It isnt quite as good as the radeon, but you cant beat the current price/performance ratio. I saw it on mwave.com for about $175.

ATI Radeon 64MB DDR

I recently bought the retail 64mb radeon and I have not seen any shimmering effect on my trinitron. I also have no complaints about the 16 bit, the game I play the most is Half Life/Counterstrike and it looks incredible on my radeon.

Fixing shutdown problem??

I doubt this is causing the problem, but you could try the "shutdown supplement" patch on the windows update site. It was for win98se only. It was supposed to stop windows from hanging at the splash screen on shutdown.

Radeon + 230 W powersupply=problem?

I'm running a 64mb radeon and pIII 800@900 with no problem with my old 235 watt supply.

Did I fry my mobo?

Doesn't sound good, see if there is a jumper to reset the mobo, maybe its clock settings are messed up. Also try rmoving everthing but mem, vid card, and old proc. Re-seat parts too. All longshots, but you never know.

Id you dont care about games, check out the ati expert98 8mb on that same site, its only $37. b.t.w. I buy all my stuff from them (mwave.com), they have great prices and customer service.

ADirect X 8 will release within 48 hours. hopefully i'll see true power of Radeon.

Should I get a Asus Geforce2 MX or Radeon 32MB DDR for this system?

The radeon would probably look better for those games you mentioned, but the win2k drivers are not very good for the radeon. You can use beta drivers though, which have much improved win2k performance. Maybe you should just flip a coin or something, you really can't go wrong with either card.

so is ATi updating their drivers or what!

Yes it is true, the retail is clocked faster than the oem version, but it really doesn't make much difference, if any at all. As for the 16 bit, it isn't as fast as the gforce in 16 bit, but I wouldn't say it has "problems" with it. I play half life with my 64 meg radeon and it get...

VooDoo3 or Prophet II?

The nvidia would be a much better buy than the voodoo 3 which has no 32 bit color, no anti-aliasing, and is much slower. You can get a can get one of the mx cards for about $129 over at at www.mwave.com.

Good PCI card

I would try to find a good bargain on a voodoo 3 3000. The only advantage to the 4500 is the 32 bit color and anti-aliasing, but that system is too slow to take advantage of those features anyways. I don't think that most games will even take advantage of the dual processors. If I had that...

This Ford vs Chevy kind of question has been beaten to death already. You need to be a little more specific as to what you want in a card. What games do you play, are you looking for better 2D or 3D, etc.

AIW Radeon in win2k, who has da combo?

Go read todays article on the 64 meg Radeon over at sharkyextreme.com. They tested the card with the "special purpose" drivers (beta) for win 2k and there were HUGE improvements.

One note I forgot to mention, if you are running win 2k then you may want to get a gforce card. The radeon win2k drivers are crappy for using 3d games.

Voodoo 2 SLI VS Geforce 2 Mx

The voodoo 3000 is a nice card, but not supporting 32 bit color kinda stinks, but if you can live with that then it will do fine until around Dec or Jan when another generation of cards is going to be released (so they say).
