I hardly ever post, unless I have something to ad. However, all power dissipated by the CPU will ultimately be converted into heat. Heat is simply the transfer of energy. Since the processor is stationary, energy is not transferred from it by either work, or a mass flow. (Energy transfer from...
My current build is as follows:
AMD FX 8320 at 4.9Ghz (water cooled with Seidon 240m)
Sabertooh 990FX
8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz
XFX R9 290 DD
Intel 180Gb 520 SSD (and other mechanical drives)
Antec 850 Gamer PSU
Corsair Carbide 400R Case
Anyways, I've got the itch to upgrade, and am very...
Okay, I have removed one of the Radeon 7850s. This seems to have solved the problem. Since it appears I need a new PSU, does anyone have any recommendations? I would like something that will allow me to overclock a fair amount. Is 750-800 Watts enough?
I'll do so tomorrow after work. That is a pretty good test. I was under the impression that thermal paste is non conductive, and the capacitance didn't necessarily cause damage but could effect stability.
Also, thanks for the replies. Hopefully I get this sorted out the simple way (PSU upgrade).
I used the calculator you linked, and it came to 573 watts. That does seem fairly close. However, I recalculated using a 1100t @ 4.0ghz and 1.41 volts, and came to 582 watts, so I am still not sure. Regardless, it does seem like I am too close for comfort.
Hmm, so perhaps it is the PSU? However, I am slightly surprised:
I was running crossfired 7850's each overclocked to 1000 core 1250 memory, and had 960t unlocked to x6 and at 4.0 ghz. I have since backed down the 7850s to stock speeds, and am running the 8320 at stock.
Upon re-inspection...
So I recently upgraded processors and I have been having periodic freezes. The computer simply freezes, and the audio hangs. There is no BSOD, or shutdown.
My systems is:
Asrock 870 Extreme3 r2.0
AMD 8320 (stock speeds)... had an unlocked 960t prior
2x radeon 7850
Antec EarthWatts...
A CPU fan does not increase air intake into the system. Particulate fouling of the entire system will be be among other things a function the volumetric flow rate of air through the entire case.
Certain components will of course draw a greater percentage of this fouled air through them, and...
I think king touched on it, but this is not a pressure driven system, and even if it were the pressure delta needed to generate an equivalent air flow is such that, that specific heat capacity is not an issue.
P.S. Look into the differences between absolute, gauge, and especially in this...
Long time lurker here. Anyways, I thought I’d chime in on this topic as it is one of the few here I do have some background in. (B.S. Physics, and M.E.) Caveat, I am quick rusty in the subject matter. Anyways, I haven’t had a great chance to look into this in great depth, but from...
