  1. Did I kill my CPU?

to be honest...i,d recommend you to start with the PSU if that is possible...just because it is 1.5kw unit doesn,t mean it cannot fail at some load....and if you remove GPU in the first place, you also reduce the total load on PSU ,thus might come to wrong conclusions regarding the result....
  2. Did I kill my CPU?

might be a video card fault or psu for that matter too....try replacing to rule out one by one.
  3. Why does my Nexus 4 perform so much faster than big laptops?

maybe it is just because phones tend to use mobile version of the website , whereas laptops seek for full.
  4. SAKaveri Versus Richland: A Performance Per Clock Comparison

@Jovec thanks. i think you have done good , considering the tools and info available. but i'm still not sure(in your original post) as to why you say : "I watch my 5800k pull more than 95w under P95 at stock settings" is that just because of that 28W MoBo etc figure and frquency drop?
  5. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

the problem with that graph is that it is system power....there is no way to tell what the exact APU's power consumption is.
  6. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

it is all about TDP  Kaveri has one , right?:whiste: it's just that damn physicist came and spoiled all the fun:biggrin:
  7. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

LOL..phew ,how rude was that?! i'm terribly hurt
  8. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

Oh...i see...where it is going...big brother came to rescue his mate by nitpicking, right ? i was not trolling ... yet ;) besides i'm not physicist either , therefore do not punish me for that atomic microscope thing i beg you:biggrin: i'm just an EE. never bothered with all those...
  9. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

emmm.....yes and no(in this case) - heat itself is energy. nope. CPU is just a heater in this case. not sure what you mean by "CPU increases its kinetic energy " sounds ridiculous:biggrin: does it start jumping around or what?:D agreed.;) but i did not , i got tired to repeat the same...
  10. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

ok, to be serious. it is not estimative. It is something that had been calculated and measured. there are two ways of doing that(as to my know): 1)calorimetry 2) knowing that CPU=heater thus power in = power out , therefore P=U*I (for DC circuits)
  11. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

LOL....and into heat too for that matter;) oh dear....ok...as far as my ENG goes: 1) nope 2) nope 3) nope 4) not sure 5) no in order for something to create/generate heat , thus energy - it has to be an energy source itself ;) CPU/APU is not one , it is a load (or a sink if you like).
  12. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

first of all, just to be clear , the CPU does not "generate" heat , what it does is: turns electrical energy into heat(energy) with COP = 1
  13. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

(facepalm)that is just bollocks. prove it first.
  14. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

so what ? look , i give up. it is not like i am going to convice you anyway , am i ? believe whatever you want to believe ;)
  15. SAKaveri Versus Richland: A Performance Per Clock Comparison

@Jovec please provide us with details how did you get your numbers - mean what and how did you measure , to support your statements.
  16. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

LOL....no - wrong again! thermals(TDP) is about heat not about temperature. yes, there is a difference in case you did not know that;)
  17. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

it is(because CPU is just a heater by itself) - with an exception that TDP is "inert" and EDP is "instantaneous"...if i may call it so.once you heat it up to some temperature x - there is no more "heat storage" available. Also - there is no point to make 100W EDP for a CPU with 50W TDP....it...
  18. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

oh FFS ! what has this to do with temperature ?! you drop out that period while initial heating , start with water already boiling -will it make easyer for you to understand then? also you do not seem to understand that in order to exceed the TDP rating your MoBo and your PSU have to be able...
  19. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

(facepalm) i suggest you to go and read a physics text book, ok? yes he DID - just because he did not reach the max temperature - doesn't mean anything.somehow you both assuming that CPU is always cool at the start up, why is that? the CPU or APU is effectivly a heater , that means that all...
  20. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

LOL , so what , that it did not boil at that few second 100% burst ? you still DID exceeded the TDP rating , right? it cannot use more power because of specified TDP rating, otherwise you might end up with dead MoBo(can not deliver the power CPU consumes) or burned CPU because of not...
  21. SAKaveri Versus Richland: A Performance Per Clock Comparison

it is a most significant figure for OEMs to deal with: first if you design a MoBo you have to consider TDP because of two things: 1) the POWER delivery rail for the CPU or APU 2) the amount of heat generated (for laptops as an example) since you know that your CPU/APU is rated as 65W TDP...
  22. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

because it is NOt so, ok? look , when you design a chip or something , you have to provide specification for potential customers , one of the parametres important is peak power draw - that would be TDP . period. why TDP = peak or continuous power draw? BECAUSE - there is such a thing as the...
  23. SAKaveri Versus Richland: A Performance Per Clock Comparison

Wrong....ok, i guess i have to explain this to you ;) in order for your CPU to work on average power X while peaking anywhere from 1W to 1KW your MoBo manufacturer has to design a mobo that can deliver 1KW peaks on power rail ......do you get it now? or should i contunue ?
  24. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

(facepalm) so....answer then: why even put TDP rating on CPUs if power consumption may exceed it ? did you even read what you post? what do you think this means? : [QUOTE=AtenRa;36000621] TDP is not the maximum power that the processor can dissipate TDP . Thermal Design Power...
  25. SAKaveri Versus Richland: A Performance Per Clock Comparison

no. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_design_power TDP is not average power consumption. How would you expect OEMs to design their MoBos with such a definition- "average" ? Average of WHAT? between 1W and 1KW ?
  26. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

emmm....yes and no. TDP(heat) = max* (electrical)power consumption for real world loads. IOW if one sees APU/CPU electrical power consumption exceed TDP value , then one might start screaming for fraud. * As to (some)intel's CPUs - those have some transient peak power "feature" thus they might...
  27. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

i did not say they can. i was talking about slim(low profile) ITX cases , where dGPU physically cannot fit in ;) no , but still, it should be less noise AND heat rather than having two CPU+dGPU (non aftermarket) fans in a tinny box;) but yes...the performance will suffer.
  28. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

yes , but what if i want a low profile case and low heat and noise output ? oh....buy an i3 ?
  29. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

Look , 14W is a big gap ofcourse. But the point here is : no one here can tell if those 14W came from APU alone. period. it is just a speculation. Untill someone does proper measurements of APU alone.;)
  30. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

what exactly makes you think , that 4770k is some kind of etalon for every APU out there? What makes you think that 4770k did the test pulling it's max power draw ? What do you think , there is no significant difference in uArc intel to amd? do they use the same tech-process , same memory...
  31. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

yes i did , 7850k is a fail. the prices will go down however. would you recomend that for a mini itx build? exactly , as it is for anyone else in this place - no need to repeat the same argument. and btw i am not a fanboy
  32. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

ok...you think that, just because i3 and richland is drawing less in that particular test , the argument of kaveri's somehow flawed TDP rating is valid? you do realize that the power (peak power btw) in that chart stands for total sys power right? also who here is to tell for sure , what is the...
  33. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

how about you enighten us all....what exactly do you think is wrong with the TDP ? emm.... what? yes i3 seem to be using less power than kaveri apus in that chart , so what ?
  34. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

FFS! anyone forcing you to buy one? or what? that is obvious. so what? what if one wants SOC ? m?
  35. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

TBH ...those power measurements at various reviews are (to put it mildly) nothing to draw conclusions about....
  36. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

anyone know is mantle out yet?
  37. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

while , yeah , there is ~~13W gap....though there is no way to tell for SURE (at the moment) what is causing that extra pwr draw and why. mind you , idle figures are way higher than one could expect too... actually if we subtract : 78.9 - 45 = 33.9 and 98.5 - 65 = 33.5 the...
  38. The Official Kaveri Review Thread (A10-7850K, etc)

(facepalm) IMO , what amd should have done with this arc is: made one 65W APU-k for enthusiasts(aka AMD-fans)with GDDR5 or Qch DDR3 and kept the consumer baseline products with dual chanel memory and TDP from 45W down, because their 65W and 95W parts make no sense whatsoever. that is about it...
  39. The Kaveri Pre-Launch Thread (A10-7800 and A10-6800k @3,5 Ghz)

says who ? the fella with an UFO in his avatar ? and btw - it has already (somewhat) happened , look : http://us.playstation.com/ps4/index.htm
  40. The Kaveri Pre-Launch Thread (A10-7800 and A10-6800k @3,5 Ghz)

hmm...this one begs for the question...are there going to be enthusiast MoBos released with GDDR5 on-board later this year ?
