It turns out that the nex 5r's micro usb is completely stripped out. This takes out a massive amount of functionality (all of the wifi capabilities due to unsupported old firmware that I can't update, and charging through the input) So If I can't get it fixed on the cheap then I'm returning it...
Are there any you recommend that are better than the kit it comes with? I'm probably going to hold off on a new lens until I better understand how I like to take pictures but if there is something cheap and really good then I might splurg at some point.
Thanks! Definitely a good read for a beginner like me. I get to use all these settings on my s6, but the rules clearly apply differently to real cameras.
I've narrowed down my search to 2 cameras, the NEX-5K or the Nikon d3100, both of which I can afford, which one should I get?
UPDATE:
I went with the NEX 5R with the full lens kit in case anyone cares. It seemed to be the no-compromises option (mostly) between the two and in a compact package...
How much better are the 16.1 mp versions than the 14.2 mp ones? I can get a body + 18-55mm lens kit 14.2 mp for $130, or the same thing with the 16.1 mp for $200
Is there anything wrong with DSLR's? I have a galaxy s6 and try to do a lot of photography with it but it just doesn't have enough settings, the lens kits for smartphones aren't great, the OIS isn't good and it doesnt have an sd card slot. I'm able to get more impressive shots with with my 10...
I've been wanting to get into photography but want to start on a tight budget. I'm willing to spend $100 on a camera body but don't know where to look and don't know what lenses and adapters I need. The only suggestion I've been interested in is the Sony NEX-5 body for $100, but don't know what...
I'm thinking about trying out the l5640. Does anyone here have experience with it? It runs a 19x multiplier and if it can run 220 bclk like the l5639 it might be a decent chip. Or would the x5650 be better overall?
That's interesting, maybe he means this time there won't be a gimmick. I'm not a fan of the idea of having another handheld, but I see the market for it.
my mental math sucks, but it's a 25% increase, still a beefy overclock, but I can see how it would happen.. still the 7950 and 760 are very close when compared to the higher end cards
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, there is no way to get stock 280x performance out of a 7950, that would require almost a 50% increase in performance, which is way too big of an overclock for that card. My 760 is currently overclocked to 1350 core 7200 memory, a 22% core increase and 17% memory...
My 760 is 4gb and the 660 ti was very competitive with the 7950 for a good year, i went nvidia because i wanted to stream to my shield and the 660 ti was all I could afford. even now though the 660 ti beats the 7870 it replaced. I'd be interested to see how the 760 does against the 7950
edit...
Yeah I regret going Nvidia.... They forgot kepler exists and maxwell isn't that interesting aside from the 980 ti. my 660 ti and 760 have not aged well to say the least, despite pulling a 7k 3dmark firestrike graphics score with a stable OC on my 760...
yeah i have one it's actually a very good size, not even noticeably shorter than my 24" but much wider. Not sure where the laptop screen comparison came from :/
thanks, I figured it was still the 5670 but I didn't want to scroll through 30 pages to find nothing XD, also I saw the post but my friend had already gotten the w3520, I would have told him to return it but i couldnt find any evidence of the e5640 being a better overclocker and at this point...
what would you guys say is the best overclocking hex core under $100 right now? I would like to get a chiper that hits 4.7 or so on all 6 so I can keep up with haswell. I'm going to be doing a gpu upgrade in a few weeks and need a cpu to keep up with it.
also we hit 4.2 ghz on the w3520...
it's worth noting that on july 26 samsung is releasing their 24" PLS 4k monitor for $400, it's a bit smaller but imho a better deal for the pls alone
anandtech link
he has a beefy switech dual 140mm rad so cooling shouldnt be an issue, the fact that a quad core can reach better physics scores than the 8320 should mean that the single threaded should kill the amd, resulting in better game performance
oh cool, I pretty much assured him it would run around 4.4, I trust anandtech user results better than other forums though so I thought i'd ask. He wants to beat the multi threaded results of his 8320 and I think anything above 4.2 on the quad core would beat his 4.7 ghz overclock with the 8320
What clocks can you run your w3520 at? I just told my friend to get one (for $10) and I'm hoping he'll be able to get 4.4 ghz stable? seems doable, and it'll actually be a decent upgrade from his 8320 XD
what clockspeeds can this thing reach? my l5639 is getting 212 bclk for almost 2 years now, i would like a single threaded upgrade for modern games now...
have you considered water cooling? if there's room for a 120mm rad, then you could get a bracket for the gpu to install a closed loop liquid cooling system
It'll only do op good if he stays away from German cars, they are a total facade. Mercedes is hardly German anymore so if he has to get one, Merc is probably the way to go
porsche is probably the safest bet, but personally I wouldn't be able to get over the way a bmw or porsche looks... I'm not sure if you are into SUV's but the GLA AMG s a spectacular deal, and on top of speed is reliable, any amg in your price range would probably suit your needs with the added...
