Anyone use Riverbed, or Cisco WAAS at there work?

This is all a moot issue if you move to a centralized file server model and you do not have the issue with file locks. As the first person to open a file will have the lock on the file. Also, this is why I caveated my response as I was not sure where DFS had made enhancements.

In some cases Cisco is better than Riverbed and in some cases it is the other way around. Overall performance is pretty much the same with both. When I said that Riverbed does not integrate as easily with the network it depends on what features you are running in the network. If you are...

As for DFS, it can cause file coherency issues the last I checked. This is because it replicates on intervals and if someone modifies a file right after someone else the last change is saved and not what the first user changed. Performance wise Cisco and Riverbed will be very similar and you...

Has anyone had experience w/ WAAS?

Cooky, what do you want to know? I have worked with it since the very early stages. As far as performance most vendors are within a few percentage points of each other when you look at things over all. Now, it is more about how it integrates into your network and supportability.

Port Forward on an ASA

MuLa, did you try using the packet tracer just to make sure that nothing else is blocking/dropping the traffic on port 3389? Also, I am assuming that you can RDP to the device without going through the ASA?

Granted it is early for me, but everything looks good. The only thing that is an unknown is what the inside access-list contains. You could be blocking the traffic coming back from the RDP server with your inside access-list.

are US automakers still crippled by unions?

One of the other problems with GM is they have too many brands which have essentially the same vehicle. They do not need Saturn, Pontiac, GMC, and Chevrolet. They should consolidate and kill off some of the brands as the article mentions.

Home VPN PPTP

The pass-through settings are for connections being sent outbound. On one of the routers you are going to need to allow the PPTP traffic in through the router. This is where Spidey said that you need to allow IP protocol 47 in. This may or may not be possible with consumer grade PAT devices...

I am not sure what you are referring to as the unnamed network, but the only SSIDs that you configured will be present on the controller(s). It is possible that the unnamed network is just showing up as the SSID that is configured to not be broadcasted. Where are you seeing the SSID at? A...

Have you driven the new Accord?

I just drove an '08 Accord for 3 days and it was nothing like a BMW 3 series. While it drove nicely the crispness was not there and it rattled like crazy. It is just not in the same class as a 3 series.

As the title says, how can I prevent Firefox from remembering fields on SSL pages? For example Firefox will remember name, address, phone, etc on the pages and I would like to disable it. Does anyone know where this can be done?

Application firewall for HTTP / SQL

You can try limiting the URL string length using the ASA if that is how the attack is coming in. Now, if it is coming in from a form on the page it is not going to work. Your best protection will be from a Web Application FW (WAF) which in the Cisco family would be the ACE XML Gateway/WAF.

Nope, the timer by default is 10 minuted on Cisco controllers for Auto RF (just checked mine). Also, as I stated before the Cisco controllers DO NOT automatically contain "rogue" access points. That is because it cannot tell if it is an AP that is connected to the network or not.

Your default route should be set by the DHCP server. Also, you would be better off setting the default route to f0 rather than to an IP address because you never know when it might change. Granted, my cable modem IP address has not changed for as long as I can remember.

Pros & Cons of blade servers

The problem is not the amount of heat per blade but the fact that it is so densely generated. So, you have a lot of heat in a small space. Also along the same lines, is the dense power requirements. I have seen that some blade chassis require 60A circuits. These 2 items become problems...

Juniper I would agree with and Extreme, not so much. They do not have real routers. They are just a switch company. Now, for a metro E network I have seen Extreme there, but that is just L2 transport.

The best oil filter placement I have seen is on the E46 BMWs. It is right on top of the engine. All you need is a rather large socket/wrench (don't remember the size) to remove the top cover and out comes the oil filter. It could not be easier to change. :)

If overclocking is causing an issue I would think it would be from the PCI, PCI Express, or whatever connection there is from the NIC to the southbridge being out of spec due to overclocking. I think most motherboards now have a way to lock the bus speed to keep it in spec. This was a problem...

How to tell if a ethernet cable is CAT5 or CAT5E

Regular Cat5 will support GigE. However, unless your cables are fairly old, chances are they are Cat5e cables. As far as checking, take a look at the printing on the cable. Almost all cable that I have seen has some sort of identification as to which type of cable it is.
