i purchased the NetMD 505 from future shop. it works good...only knock is that i wish it just supported MP3s instead of having to convert the files into another format. it only hold around 3-4 albums at 192 kps. but the disks are cheap and it takes around 1-1.5 hour to transfer data via the...
well if you use a hub...then your need 2 IPs...some ISPs only offer 1 IP and you have to pay extra for another IP. If you use a DSL/Cable Router then you only need the 1 IP and this will still allow 2 or more computers to access the internet. It may cost a little more but it is the best way to...
maybe make sure the windows 9x users are putting in a password and username when they log on...i think xp likes to see some sort of password even if it is using the guest account.
Set share permissions to everyone so everyone can access it...and give them read access only. If you have guest account enabled this should allow anyone to connect to it. or else you can use authenicated users only and anyone who logs into the domain that the share resides on will be able to...
make sure the windows 9x boxes are logging in with a username and password. the password is the key...XP doesn't like blank passwords. make sure the windows xp box has the username and password in the user manager so they can access the shares...make sure the username is allowed to access the...
you need to send clear text passwords to the samba box...if your running 2000 there is an option in local policies for it...and if your running win9x there is a regedit for it

unless your board is not capable of taking the new XP processors, I would go with the new cpu...it is like a 500 MHz upgrade. almost double what you have. and the 1.2GHz are probably cheap too.
QoS is used for critical networking, probably used in large corporations. It reserves bandwidth like 10% is the default I think for times when it is really needed for time dependent applications. You can turn it off in the network properties but I think there is also something to change in the...
if you still can't add yourself to the permissions, goto the folder the files are in and check to see if you have rights on the folder and tell it to add the permissions to all the files and folders...i think you have to check the all files or all folders part. you can also try taking over...

write a log on script...if username = "so and so" and computername = "so and so" goto logoff. take advantage of the logoff.exe. this way if that user logs onto that machine you don't want him to log onto...it will automatically log him off. and in the policies set it up so that the log in...
usually if you go to the device manager and highlight the network card, you can goto the properties of it and see what speed is listed there. sometimes switches have 10/100 LED indicators...100 the led is on..10 it is off...look to see what the leds say. and also you can try new drivers like...

I remember doing this to a hard drive and it killed the hard drive. So I am not sure how safe it was to do it to a CD Burner. The good thing is you just bought it so you can return it as doa. Only thing to do is test the CD Burner out and see if it works. Everything else should be okay. It...
I was tired of loud fans also...So I went the intel route...I have a 1Ghz Chip with the retail fan and sink...and then the fan in the PS...it runs nice and quiet and runs at around 41 C. My ears are thanking me. Don't get me wrong though...AMD is just as good...but I noticed AMD requires more...
