Remote Power Cycle - Linksys SOHO Router

Sometimes I have abnormal problems transferring files or doing remote connections to my home network. The router seems pretty rock solid, but to aid in the troubleshooting process I would like to be able to remotely reboot it. However, as I browsed through the menus of the web interface on the...

    Packetshaper and PS2 Online

The firewall is stateful, thus all outbound connections can be made. This shouldn't be a problem. I believe the user said he could connect and authenticate to the server but he couldn't join a room or game. Which ever you do when you login. Im not sure because I have never done it.

    Packetshaper and PS2 Online

I have some students reporting PS2 Online not working properly. I was thinking this may be due to the lack of classification on the shaper. Has anyone classified PS2 Online? If so could you give me an example of how you did it. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like some or all the games...

XP Home - Does DHCP but nothing else

Yep it was the NIC. I threw an Intel in there and everything worked flawlessly. I was too lazy to try a dif. set of drivers to see if that fixed the problem with the other NIC. I just told her to hang onto it in case she needs to send it back. Thanks for the help TG.

How can i create my own web server

blstriker is right, as long as you keep them both patched you should be fine. I am not a server admin, but I work with them a lot. In my experience, I just see more Windows apps and services that get exploited than our Linux servers or associated apps. I guess from this I just tend to be more...

XP Home - Does DHCP but nothing else

Thanks for the info TG. It is a desktop btw. I can't support this computer beyond the scope of the what the University allows. However, the girl was real nice and really wanted her new computer to work. So I decided to, on my own time, remove the NIC from the device manager, in the hopes it...

How can i create my own web server

You can use Apache on win2k or you can use IIS (which is built in to win2k). I personally wouldn't use IIS because of security reasons. However, I have heard IIS is easier to setup than Apache. I haven't set up many web servers so Im not much use here, I hope this helps.

XP Home - Does DHCP but nothing else

An XP home machine will contact the DHCP server during boot and pull an IP. I made sure that it was actually talking to the DHCP server and not caching the IP (if thats possible) by checking the lease time in the DHCP manager. After it boots up though, you can't ping anything nor access any...

Well the click of death from one of my HDs has claimed the RAID 0 array. I will have to pull it, reformat the existing, and start from scratch. This will delay my being in the server because it was my gaming machine :(

The greatest game of BF 1942 EVER!

In my experience and opinion, I think a lot of servers (Including EAs which I think are terrible) are set to host too many people. This game is extremely cpu intensive and a 32 person server requires at least a P4. A lot of the lag you get seems to be cpu lag and not network lag. Even though...

Does beer sit in the top or bottom of the keg?

At this website they say draft beer will only last 20-30 days before it will lose its fresh taste and aroma. I don't know how good the source is, but they probably have a lot of exp. with kegs :)

Does beer sit in the top or bottom of the keg?

Well Im glad to see that most agree with me :) Thanks for that link dolph, that is good evidence to show him. This is why I referred to air and not CO2 to begin with. Im sure when the keg is filled they insert CO2 inside to keep it at a constant pressure but when you have a handtap, you...

The greatest game of BF 1942 EVER!

I had the funnest time I have ever had playing BF the other night with just 4 people. Me and 3 other guys (that I didn't know) were on Gazala, I believe. It was the desert map with the airfield in the northwest corner that doesn't have a post to claim and the map has a bunch of canyons...

Does beer sit in the top or bottom of the keg?

I was at a wedding the other day and I heard a guy talking about how beer sat at the top of the keg and all the air was at the bottom. I was going to debate with him, but I realized I really wasn't sure. I assume there is a cylinder that goes down the center to the bottom of the keg and the...

    DMZ server

It sounds to me as though your network settings are fine. With FTP there are two ports primarily used: 20 & 21. Port 21 (the "control channel") is used for the commands like GET, PUT, etc and port 20 (the "data channel") is used to actually transfer the files. Well in "normal" FTP mode the...

Problems with Time Warner Road Runner service and Linksys Cable Router

From personal experience with my cable company and having to work with them through the University I learned something that may help here. The cable company here in town doesn't clear out the DHCP tables instantly, sometimes it can take up to 24 hours to clear them. So if you were to plug a...

Network card drivers, which should I use?

I agree with Schnieds, I would use the manufacturer driver. You may even look into using the latest manufacturer driver off their website, if there are good reasons to update to it. Also from a support stand point, the manufacturer's answer to any problem (if you were using Realtek's drivers)...

    DMZ server

Well I'm not sure exactly why you are dropping your connection. When you drop your connection can you ping the router from the dmz machine? Can you ping anything beyond your router on the net? If you are just putting the machine in the dmz so you can keep your ftp up, you don't need to put it...

My friend's internet is down. Let's give him a hand...

This happened a while back on our cable system. It sounds like the company has actually started enforcing the 1 IP address rule. Another way to test before you buy a router is to hook the machine up that is not getting an IP straight to the modem. If it pulls an IP and a webpage loads, great...

How would I go about bypassing a bandwidth filter? (I'm on a university multi-T1 ethernet)

Your best bet is to try to tranfer files via HTTP or FTP. These protocols usually have the most allocated bandwidth or highest priority. It is probably a packet shaper and these are usually placed right before the last hop out of your network. So you aren't going to get around it. Programs...

Battlefield 1942 - Network Communication Question

Say I were to host a BF server on port 14567 (default). When a client connects to the server, it sends the packets from its port 14567 to the port 14567 on the server right? Ok when the server returns information does it return it via 14567? If so, does the client receive this info back on...
