That's a good point. Wouldn't that only really be an issue though if you were redirected to an external site in the embedded browser with malicious code? I would probably do it if an official BIOS became available but hacking the microcode into an existing BIOS seems incredibly risky to me.
I'm trying to weigh up if it's worth trying to manually merge the updated Intel microcode into a current BIOS for my Haswell/Z97 system as an official update seems unlikely. Are there much in the way of gaming benchmarks for Haswell systems on the new microcode? I've only read some brief...
I have an old laptop which I've re-purposed into a kitchen media pc. It needs to be instant on, so I suspend it when not in use. The problem is, every 5th time or so it hangs when resuming from suspend requiring a hard reboot. The machine is a HP 6720s and runs Vista Business 64bit. Suspend...
This is really worrying. If a large enough percentage of people get acclimatised to highly saturated, very bright displays (how many Galaxy phones are in the wild?) we're in for a future of unnatural displays with ramped backlights. I really think the Nexus 5 backlight being so aggressive is in...
A 7" tablet is more than twice the screen area of a 5" phone isn't it? A tablet is a much nicer experience, especially when browsing the web. I wouldn't touch my n5 if I have the n7 to hand.
There aren't really any good tablets for kids. The closest I found was the Acer Iconia range as they're pretty rugged. Terrible screens though. Don't get a first gen Nexus 7, they'll break and be a write-off with a single drop.
Is there any wonder a screen calibrated to suit your own personal preferance is more pleasing to you than one that isn't?? Did you actually take any screen measurements from your N4, like the ones linked above showing the N5 having the most accurate colour reproduction? Have you considered you...
If you make the N5 light sensor ramp the brightness deliberately and then toggle auto off/on again, you will see it instantly drop to more sensible levels. It knows it's too bright but seems to have some sort of built in delay when dimming.
An Android phone is pretty pointless without a regular Google account and the only additional information a Google+ account requires is your real name and gender. So what? Hardly a big leap is it. Google+ = Google.
The power button was one of the first things I noticed. It's annoying because you can't squeeze the device and push the button in from the side, it's set at an angle. I guess it's to stop accidental presses but I find it incredibly annoying.

79 pages of people with touchscreen issues

Several hundred posts about the BT issue. Google have confirmed both of them.
The 2013 Nexus 7 is a complete lemon. Not only does it reboot frequently and Bluetooth doesn't work properly when WiFi(2.4ghz) is enabled. Now I find out the touchscreen doesn't work properly unless the device is properly grounded, say on a plastic stand...
I'd say most phone scratches are caused by small particles of grit and not by hitting large objects. GG is hard enough to resist rubbing against keys and coins but a single grain of sand will scratch it right up. Having a case/sleeve covering the screen probably makes it more likely to get...
I am so disappointed with the new Nexus because of this;

It's ridiculous, how did this get past testing?? Google are getting so sloppy. 4.3 introduced an annoying bug on my Nexus 4 with headphone volume...
I would disagree completely. I have a Martin Fields protector on my N4 and it's way better than the cheaper one I had on my N7. The more expensive one feels more like glass, actually reduces fingerprints and has better touch sensitivity. Not to mention it was easier to apply.
I've seen a massive increase in typing errors since the increase in Swype style keyboards. Mainly amongst friends but you can even see the common errors in internet forum posts.
It's annoying how you could probably get a much better swype keyboard by combining functionality from all of the main...
I frequently spend 2hrs in a coffeshop writing an Android app on a massive Dell laptop and testing it on the Nexus 4 plugged into its usb port :whiste:
These discussions are always pointless. One tablet may be better for reading one particular website or text than the other and vice versa. Every piece of content is different and every person's ratio of what they view is different. You can't even compare large displays of the same ratio to...
There's nothing worse than an app having a completely different UI on a 7" device compared to a ~5" device. If that's your definition of 'dedicated tablet apps' then you can keep it. Gimmicky nonsense. A 7" device UI should have a lot in common with the 'phone' variant, just making use of the...
I'd love to be OCD free and use my devices without screen protectors :'(
I flat-out don't believe anyone who says they can use a phone for a year or two and not have any minor scratching.
Changing apps for 7" tablets over their phone variant is mostly counter productive imo. The gains you get from making better use of the extra bit space are usually countered by things being just different which is confusing to the user. Take the last version of Maps for example, it was...
