AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 and 56 Reviews [*UPDATED* Aug 28]

That vega 56 undervolt shows how retard AMD is, after undervolting it matches vega 64 and 1080, with a lot less shaders than the 64. This proves how unbalanced Vega10 is. They need 96 or 128 rops to compete with 1080Ti.

AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 and 56 Reviews [*UPDATED* Aug 28]

I can only see one positive point about the Vega architecture: it requires less memory bandwidth than their previous architectures. I expect a really good basic gaming APU based on DDR4 + Vega. About Vega10 die: its a flop, its even worse than Fiji, performance per watt had a regression, instead...

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

Well now we know the Raja's master plan to sell all Vega dies, that extra 4 billions transistors basically turned the Fiji into a mining asic hahaha

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

AMD said the added transistors where to achieve higher clock speeds. "Vega achieves ~1.7Ghz vs Fijis ~1.05, thanks to additional circuit paths" they said. Anyway, Vega is not consistently at least 50% faster than Fiji, and I still believe its due to memory bandwidth.

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

The bottleneck has to be memory bandwidth, they just havent figured out how achieve Nvidia's bandwidth efficiency. Otherwise, I really dont know what happened.

AMD Vega (FE and RX) Benchmarks [Updated Aug 10 - RX Vega 64 Unboxing]

The current game performance is just... pathetic. In my eyes the last good cards from AMD where all GCN 1 + Hawaii. The rest of the cards were just a mess: barely an attempt to copy Nvidia technologies + the unknown need to go HBM asap. First stupid card was Tonga, it basically incorporated...

AMD Vega (FE and RX) Benchmarks [Updated Aug 10 - RX Vega 64 Unboxing]

If this thing is barely at GTX1080 level, I really dont know what AMD was thinking. Its easy to imagine a 300m2 polaris with +50% everything 48rops/3000 shadres/384bits very easy getting into 1080 territory. Even a Hawaii die shrunk (updated to polaris) would do it even better..

Ignore budget then, bring threadripper to play and Intel gets spanked anyways.

    How is Ryzen?

Saw this review the other day: https://www.eteknix.com/fierce-pc-imperial-hive-review/ Personally, I see the 7770K a bad choice since it has zero upgrade path. AM4 should support Zen+ cpus, and even the ryzen 1700 make it look bad at anything other than gaming, where the difference is unnoticeable.
  14. P

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

Yep, and the architecture used to interpolate performance is Polaris lol This is just a placeholder in TPU's database..
  16. P

    Ryzen's halved 256bit AVX2 throughput

Saying the length of the workload matters is bullshit. Probably the "heavier" tests are having different memory bandwidth requirements (not only memory channels, but cache performance) that is helping intel cpus to pull ahead. But I doubt this happens in all cases.

    6900K or wait for Skylake-E?

I bet a 1700X + 2x1080 SLI would be far better purchase, for the same money ;)

    Ryzen-A Fail for Gamers?

I would always pick a 1700 over the 7700k. 7700k is just weaker in almost everything, and it only pulls ahead in single threaded games, or applications and not by a huge margin. Also expect it to age a lot quicker, and not the processor alone, but the entire platform (I expect Zen2 and Zen3...

    Radeon Vega Architecture Preview Thread

I think the GPU used in the radeon line is a cut-down version of the Vega10 chip, otherwise the performance and die size ratio is just stupid. Also the chip shown on the interposer was paired with only 2xhbm2 stacks (8Gb). For it to have a 16Gb configuration (for the Radeon MI25), it should have...

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

I expect Vega10 to be 2xPolaris 10 in terms of resources: 64 Rops/4608 SP, that would follow the same basic strategy they did with Tonga-> Fiji It should be very close to Titan XP (this is exactly 2xGP106), and about 20% better than 1080. Obviously AMD will wait until nvidia launches 1080Ti to...

[WCCFTECH]Possible AMD Radeon RX 490 Performance Numbers Show Up in DX12 AOTS Benchmark – On Par Wit

Hope its not HBM based, it would be stupid. AMD can easily lauch a 48Rop/~3000 cores/384-bit part that be in the 1080 performance territory. AND about power consumption, it would be at most 50/60 watts more.

[Videocardz rumour] Vega pushed forward to October

Just did some math. Fiji is 70% larger than Tonga.. and 2x perf. repeat the same with polaris10 vs vega10/11

[Videocardz rumour] Vega pushed forward to October

That might help. But I am 99% sure the savings in memory I/O circuitry is the main factor. If you think about it,RX480 basically ties 970/980/1070/1080 in power consumption, all have 4x64-bit buses, the gtx 1060 being only 3x64-bits consumes roughly 75% the power of the RX480. Hawaii was...

[Videocardz rumour] Vega pushed forward to October

The magic behind NV's perf/watt is basically the delta color compression. If you think about it, power consumption directly correlates to the quantity of memory channels and memory speed. AMD´s DCC is way behind, it already needs the jump that Nvidia did from Kepler to Maxwell.

[Videocardz rumour] Vega pushed forward to October

Vega10 should easily win against GP104. I expect it to be somewhere between GP104 and GP102. Die size at ~400mm2 Given GP102 performance, AMD might win only with at least a 500mm2 part with 96Rops/6144 SPs. Also perf/watt will be much better than RX480 thanks to HBM2.

    Next-gen API benches for RX 480 & 1060.

What really hurts AMD is how ahead Nvidia is with their texture compression. That's the real key behind the lower power efficiency. If AMD manages to get a similar compression technology they will be pretty sure on par with power consumption.

The 480: power consumption, PCI-E powerdraw

Well, Pascal architecture is not as great as Nvidia made a lot of people believe. If you take a look at aftermarket 1080s reviews its obvious NV sent higher binned chips for the FE edition review. With Maxwell a lot of aftermarket cards were even more efficient than the reference version. Had...

[VC] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Specifications Leaked, Faster than RX 480

I think to decide between a 480 and a 1060 i would choose the one with better perf/$. Both consume tiny amounts of power (less than a 970), you wont see a difference in electricity bill with a 10/20watts diference. Also exepect 480s to be as cool with aftermarket coolers..

[VC] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Specifications Leaked, Faster than RX 480

There are only 2 possible cases: 1) If 1060 is 128-bits/32ROPs, then its specs are exactly 50% of 1080 in all metrics. In the chart this translates to around 92.5% ~970 performance level (185 * 0.5). 2) If 1060 is 192-bits/48ROps, then its better to compare it with 1070 (which is equal to a...

hehe you catched him with pants down. only thing to get from aftermarket 1080s is downgraded efficiency. all aftermarket 1080s seem to be only 33% more efficient tham gtx980. or maybe nvidia sent highly binned review samples to all sites :sneaky:
