Crashplan is worth looking into. It is a backup solution that works cross platform and can be used for free in some cases.
You can pay to backup to their cloud service, including using a method where your information is encrypted before it is sent to them so only you have access...
There is a very old thread:
Mouse sometimes double clicking by itself?

The thread is now locked but I wanted to put in the solution I found in case it helps anyone else.
My Logitech Notebook mouse started frequently double clicking...
Thanks of the idea, it is a Linux system but I tried watch dmesg for a while and tried different ports.
For some reason it seems to reset a couple of times but then it started working, yay!
This is what I get when I plug it in directly:

So I am trying to use a USB 3.0 drive with a USB 2.0 powered hub. I don't care about the speed I just need the connectivity.
If I plug the Seagate USB 3.0 drive directly into the computer using a USB 2.0 cable it works.
If I put a powered USB 2.0 hub (tried two I have around) inline the...
The error from the client is
80070035 The network path was not found
This error comes from a VBscript so the source is WSHNetwork.MapNetWorkDrive
It also fails if you try to manually map the drives. If you try to use a drive you had previously mapped then it doesn't respond.
I think the...
Hmm might have found it, there were a few of these.
The server was unable to allocate a work item number times in the last number seconds.

Only 2 computers accessing the machine.
The machine trying to connect looks as if the computer is not there. Mapped drives say something like drive not available.
So I have a fully patched/updated machine running Windows 2000 Pro that shares out a couple of drives. It is not joined to a domain, just standalone.
It seems that after a certain amount of data has been exchanged by the machine it will no longer allow other machines to access the mapped...

If you are just looking for dialup speeds you might look at a data plan for your cell phone.
Some can use a USB cable with GPRS service or there are more expensive and faster data plans.
Most trips I have taken recently the hotels have had free broadband access though.
Oxford 911 is firewire only, Oxford 922 is firewire and USB.
Most of the combo drives I see are Prolific not Oxford though.
I believe the Oxford 922 chipset is very new and supports the New Firewire 800Mbps standard (instead of 480Mbps)
But the actiona pack is a subscription so after a year you will have to renew at whatever the current price is, otherwise you don't have a valid license and must uninstall all the software.
You do get a whole bunch of spftware but it is only a 1 year subscription
I am pretty sure this is the...

One approach that might help a it is to have more than one brand of virus protection on the different computers. If brand X does stop the virus when the email gets opened then brand Y might stop it when it tries to infect another cmputer.
Most video conferencing software is designed to hit a central server and send the video streams there. Much of this is because 2 client machines behind most firewalls are not able to talk directly to each other but they can both talk to a central server.
I seem to remember that you could use MS...
I have a problem with my home network. My laptop is unable to see my printer that is shared on my win98 machine. The laptop is joined to a domain but is using cached credentials since it cannot talk to the work domain controller when at my house :)
I can map shared drives, I use this script to...
Many laptops are targeted for business uses, this means the video performance is only important for 2D business applications. In general I believe even current bottom of the line video cards have more than enough power for 2D business apps.
So pay attention to the video card.

Wondering if anyone here can help with this.
When attempting to use my ByteCC ME-350U2F external drive case with an IEEE 1394 (Firewire) connection I get the following error when I try to copy
files to it: delayed write failed
File copies failed with files from 76KB to 460MB.

Are your users using you as their DNS servers? If they are then you might be able to do something with your second location as another DNS server. If not then the client machines aren't going to know to connect to your alternate IP address.
I would love to see a comparative review of different external hard drive cases, I have been searching but haven't found any yet.
If anyone has pointers to reviews (particularly comparative reviews) I would love to see them.
Or perhaps AnandTech would be interested in doing one.
The external...
If you are searching for this you might want to try "bandwidth shaping".
Devices to do this tend to be expensive but as mentioned it can be done with Linux.
To access the webserver from the outside you will also need to enable port forwarding on your netgear router. You will need it to direct requests to port 80 to your server machine.
For exactly how to do this you will have to look in the docs for your Netgear router.
To find your IP address of...
I just picked one up. The rebate prints out at the register, says in store only and is for $13.00.
So price is $29.99 - $2.00 instant rebate = $27.99 + tax - $13.00 mail in rebate
So $14.99 + tax.
But unless you have a very simple Tax return it looks like the free one doesn't work, there is a large list of forms that only work in the Delux version.
See the comparison chart:

Okay so I'm looking at the Tom's hardware article http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/20021021/index.html which in the summary says "Fortron FSP, Verax and Herolchi" are recommended BUT in the summary chart giving scores I don't even see a Fortron, and the ones that scored best are Verax (okay...
> Why does she need a floppy?

Sorry a little off topic but I hate it when people say why do you need a floppy.
I still use floppies. I admit not very often though.

Can you transfer files to other machines without installing...

Actually the price will be even higher for wireless, you only mention one wireless card. You actually need one in both machines or a wireless access point at one end. An access point is more expensive and a card.
Ethernet is faster and can be done cheaper as well as having upgrade paths (10Mbps or 100Mbps now, Gigabit later if you use good Cat5e or better cable, I don't think Cat6 or higher are real standards yet so you can't go by that).
<< [OT] Does anyone know of any tool which would enable me to switch between Windows 2000 or Linux. I am a newbie to Linux and am aware of only Boot managers which goes you options to load multiple OS's at boot time. If there any good sites on this subject or for that matter Linux, I would...
I believe that CuSeeme has two modes, one is H.323 the other is proprietary and may not use dynamic ports.
Also look at this page:

These two are mentioned to work through firewalls.
