    Cannonlake to have eight cores?

Here's a report The Motley Fool that Intel is apparently working on 4/6/8 core Cannonlakes. Intel Corporation Will Finally Be Upping Its Core Counts With Cannonlake. Or maybe the Cache Coherence Protocols the engineer is mentioning is aimed at the Cannonlake E ? Article originally found on...

    Intel Atom Z3580 benchmarks

Benchmarks of Atom Z3580 in Dell's Venue 8 7000 tablet. It fares ok compared with the rest of the ARM world, although not up there yet. Battery life is rather good also. I see no reason for it not being implemented in more devices...

Want an unlocked 12 core Extreme Edition?

You will be surprised how badly image processing software scales with no of cores. I'm talking Photoshop and Lightroom included, not to mention other garbage like proprietary raw processing software, etc. This kind of software actually scales better with frequency, although there are tasks where...

    [FUDZILLA] No Broadwell for Desktop

Well, I take your argument regarding the controller interface being currently limited to x4 or 20Gbps but the Thunderbolt controller is still 4*10Gbps, you can check the specs. This might be just marketing right now, but I personally believe that what this means is that the controller can easily...

    [FUDZILLA] No Broadwell for Desktop

Not enough bandwidth? Thunderbolt 1 is 10Gbps * 4 (four independent lanes). Thunderbolt 2 is also 10Gbs * 4 but it can pair two of these for 20Gbps bi-directional. So that's 40Gbps overall for each version, with a limit of 10 or 20Gbps in various applications. USB 3.1 will be 10Gbps. So...

    i7 3820 or E5-2670??

That's a very good price but that cpu is not fully unlocked. Are you sure you can get it to those frequencies? Considering the stuff you're into, 2670 is a much better option for the long term.

    i7 3820 or E5-2670??

Well, everyone around here is making the assumption that since the new consoles are on 8-cores cpu's then the new games will get optimized for multicore. Anyhow, there is a clear trend towards multi-threading, I don't see why games wouldn't follow it, especially considering the move in...

    Solder IHS to 3770K?

Source an electric pan, something with a thermostat would be great. - Place the IHS upside down in the pan. - Smear a very thin layer of good quality solder paste / flux inside the IHS, in the center, where it makes contact with the dye. This will stabilize the solder shavings and will allow...

Intel to Supply Apple with Special High-End Haswell Processors for MacBook Pro [MacRu

This Xeon E5-2687W v2 10 3.4 GHz 25 MB 150 Watt should be impressive :) We need an Extreme Edition based on this. Can't recall last time Intel had a CPU with a TDP over 130w.

    AVX2, FMA, TSX in Haswell

    AVX2, FMA, TSX in Haswell

I know, just that after looking at some of the benchmarks on 4950HQ got me thinking. I think a Xeon with eDram would make sense for certain tasks and would convince me not to go with the K part. However an eDram part with clocks within 100-200 Mhz of 4770k is highly unlikely..

    AVX2, FMA, TSX in Haswell

Impressive, nice work, thanks for sharing this. This makes me think that I'd really consider a XEON with eDRAM in it and offcourse all the stuff activated, unlike the K parts.

    Anandtech Haswell review is up!

    Anandtech Haswell review is up!

Now why exactly are these parts consuming more than IvyBridge? Only because of the integrated voltage regulators? This baffles me, you do gain some performance over Ivy, but it's no way more efficient. I really hoped otherwise considering all the hype that Ivy was built on a non-optimized...

    Welcome to the future?

    AVX2, FMA, TSX in Haswell

Intels' board elects Brian Krzanich as new CEO

I was very interested in the selection process for Intel's new CEO position. For a company of so much weight in the industry, their top-level hiring process is notoriously obscure. In the light of the challenges Intel is facing from the ARM market his profile seems well aligned with Intel's...

Intel Haswell Box Art and Prices

Anything points to K parts not supporting TSX/TXT which actually is the only thing that bothers me at Haswell. I'm ok with the lower performance gains, but that's because I don't own a Sandy or an Ivy Bridge and I kind of understand Intel's focus on low-power. We need the kind of performance...

    Ivy Bridge-E Benchmarks

I'm almost certain that these parts should consume less power and due to this IvyBridge E should also overclock better. The reason I say this is that the server counterparts are reported to have 10 and 12 cores and I doubt Intel would get past the 150W TDP mark as they have now on the highest...

    Are you hard core?

Right now there almost as many 2 cores owners as there are users owning 6 cores CPUs. Now I really didn't expect this on an enthusiast / geek forum. It just seems 2 cores is basically enough for basic productive tasks. Speaking of which I know many webdesigners working on Core 2 Duo's...

can you compare a new cpu to a 20 year old one?

Hi, My first pc was with a 600Mhz Celeron Mendocino. Now, I don't seem to find anywhere but do you guys have any idea what was the SDRAM bandwidth on that platform? Intel just announced that the new 9 series chipsets will support SATA express with 10 to 16 Gb/s transfer rates. I wonder if...

How will CPU processing power be increased when transistors can't be shrunk farther?

In that order in think most plausible methods are: - new instruction sets - new materials, allowing for higher frequencies, improved efficiency - new packaging, for example stacking Then in the meantime maybe some computing breakthroughs will occur in quantum computing or whatever...

    Haswell Xeon leak

Cool, I didn't know these will appear so early. Basically these should have all the virtualization instructions activated, along with TSX, unlike the desktop parts. I guess next is LGA 2011 Ivy Bridge EP based XEON's followed next year by the DDR4 able haswell LGA2011.

As much as I wanted a Haswell rig, now I'm thinking twice about it.

Hi, Somewhere in a leaked table with the Haswell SKU I noticed that most of the parts, with the exception of the unlocked ones, if I recall correctly, were missing VT-x/VT-d instructions for virtualization. Any news on that?
