Great job schmidty169. Thanks for updating your image links and welcome to the Dell XPS 700-series ATX club!
  2. Dell XPS 710 BTX to ATX Conversion

Moved images from photobucket to postimage and setup new links. Hoping postimage stays stable and $free for a long time! Would love to see your images schmidty169 - hope you can restore them? My record of the front panel pins is earlier in the thread but I don't know what the sense function is.
  3. Excel speed test comparison against an FX-8350

Which is exactly what's intended.. It doesn't have to be great Excel, in fact it shouldn't be; the objective is to assess CPU performance in a typical highly single threaded Excel workload, and for that it has proven to be fit for purpose.
  4. Dell XPS 710 BTX to ATX Conversion

Hi Face2Face Yes, still using that case for my main machine. Finished a demanding job so I've got a bit more time now.
  5. Dell XPS 710 BTX to ATX Conversion

Completed CPU stress testing and got up to 30C reduction after relidding with CLP. ']Need to stress the GPUs next to really assess the effect of the cooling changes..[/URL]
  6. Dell XPS 710 BTX to ATX Conversion

Everything installed now. And much more airflow. This is with my new setup: i7-7700K (relidded wih CLP) @5.0/1.30V, ASUS Z270 PRIME, ID Cooling FrostFlow 240 AIO, 16Gb G.Skill TridentZ@3200, Zotac GTX970 SLI, 2xWD Black PCIe 256Gb M.2 in RAID0, 256Gb OCZ Vector150, 2xToshiba 1Tb in RAID0...
  7. Dell XPS 710 BTX to ATX Conversion

Then, with a bit of cutting, I fitted a 140mm Phanteks fan into the back of the front drive bays cover. And clipped it back into the case. Removing the drive doors left void which I covered with horizontal bars cut and trimmed from a spare part and stuck on with epoxy. So the top of the...
  8. Dell XPS 710 BTX to ATX Conversion

The CPU radiator would take most of the incoming airflow so I needed another source. To provide this I vacated 3.5 drive bays, but still leaving me with a DVD drive. And this meant moving the 3 LED switches off the dedicated blank box and onto the On/Off/Reset + USB 3.0 box.
  9. Dell XPS 710 BTX to ATX Conversion

I waited until the Kaby Lake release to upgrade my 2700k. As part of the project I decided to add AIO watercooling for the CPU and went for a twin-fan 240mm unit which would just fit behind the front case fan. This was easy to attach using 4 90deg brackets riveted to the Dell's original base plate.
  10. Excel speed test comparison against an FX-8350

Nice. Consistent with my 22.6 @4.3. Nothing wrong with Office 365 - I've had good results with it on laptops.
  11. Excel speed test comparison against an FX-8350

I got this with my 4670k
  12. Excel speed test comparison against an FX-8350

Agreed, consistency of OS and Excel version is an issue with this. The model was originally written in Excel 2003. I was using Win7 and Excel 2007 when I started the thread. Now I'm using Win10 and Excel 2010. Did you turn off hyper-threading in the BIOS or Excel Options (HT is a big drag on the...
  13. Excel speed test comparison against an FX-8350

Still alive. I just finished rebuilding my Dell XPS710 rig replacing the 2700K with a 7700K and have completed CPU stress testing. The 7700 is a very solid cool running chip. Fastest run in the Excel benchmark at 5.2G 1.400V is 17.31. That's a 23% IPC improvement over the Sandy.
  14. Haswell overclocking discussion.

    No, did not lap either.
  15. Haswell overclocking discussion.

I'm not familiar with LinX or Linpack and I've only had a few minutes to do this but I've downloaded LinX. Initial run at 40/38 gave 178Gflops. Quickly discovered that the stress is increased by the problem size and memory. Maxxed out the setting to 6Gb memory and started it. Stopped when power...
  16. Haswell overclocking discussion.

After the delid I cleaned up the IHS and PCB, mainly with the edge of a credit card and fingernails. Then I put it back together with CLP on both IHS and PCB, and a very thin layer of silicon sealant around the outside of the IHS. Put it back in the motherboard and reattached the waterblock with...
  17. Haswell overclocking discussion.

Lmao! Not as pretty as my little blue PC?
  18. Haswell overclocking discussion.

Link (above) seems to be working now. My first experience of making a youtube video.
  19. Haswell overclocking discussion.

I just did the delid on my 4670K. I tried with a blade but couldn't get one in, so I used a vice, and that was easy. Made a video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CX8rsnztro (still trying to get the youtube link to work) Under the IHS was a surprise. Extremely thin layer of TIM, even thinner...
  20. Haswell overclocking discussion.

Thanks Shintai. Thinking maybe I should have got the SG08 box, but it's not too late.
  21. Haswell overclocking discussion.

Thanks. Mission accomplished, just before year end . I will use it as an HTPC when I'm finished playing with it. But look what Santa brought me..
  22. Haswell overclocking discussion.

This is an old thread but it seems the most appropriate place to post my test results. I'm just very late to the party. Much of the testing is not optimal as there are so many extra permutations with the Uncore clock and voltage, and the Vccin, and I've not run P95 for hours to confirm...

  24. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

I installed Windows 7 and MS Office 365. For initial test runs, to get the feel of the CPU, motherboard, overclocking options and temps, I used an Excel benchmark that's very single threaded and imposes a low load on the CPU and is typical of the sort of work I do on my PC...
  25. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

If only. Alas, in the SFX size at 450W there is a choice of one in the UK, and it's not modular :\
  26. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Lid on. And I found a finger guard grille on eBay. Not the best finish but it works. I've got plans to paint the case but first I really want to start it up. But nearly midnight her now so that's for tomorrow..
  27. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Graphics card side. The radiator restricts the length of card but a Zotac GTX760 AMP! fits ok and is more than fast enough for my purposes. Awkward job getting it in there though, and wired up. That's a tight fit!
  28. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Going round the case: Cable side. You can see how the SSD+HDD just fit behind the rad. Back.
  29. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Reassembled. The disk drive mount now fits flush to the front. The PSU is a Silverstone 450 SFX unit. Forget fancy cable routing, everything is just squeezed in.
  30. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

research identified the Thermalright TY-141 PWM fan as a good 140mm performer with 120mm mounting holes. I needed to conceal the metal colour and Warhammer Plague Brown paint was a good match. The plastic front finishing panel also need work to increase the intake size.
  31. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

At this point I decided to increase the incoming airflow. This meant opening up the front panel of the frame. More work for the jigsaw on a very awkward and flimsy piece of metal. And I added a few more holes at the back as well.
  32. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

i5-4670K in an ASUS Z87I-PRO mobo And a Zalman LQ315 closed loop water cooler with the original 120mm fan. Mounted with Noctua NT-H1 paste (based on IDC's research in his 3770k delid thread). My main PC donated half its RAM: 2 x 4Gb G.Skill ARES 1866.
  33. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Ready to mount a 120GB OCZ Vector SSD and a Hitachi 500GB 2.5" HDD pulled from a laptop. Disk drives mounted.
  34. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Removed it, and did some jigsaw work. And reattached with rivets.
  35. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Beneath that is the 2.5" mount. That will have to be trimmed.
  36. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

Viewed from the bottom, the hard disk mount is in the way. It has to come off.
  37. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

The first problem is that the disks assembly doesn't fit behind the radiator.
  38. Hot PC in a Silverstone SG05 case

I want an HTPC and part-time business computer, so I've decided to build one using a Haswell CPU, water cooling, and a very small case no more than 8" high. The Silverstone SG05 is 7" high, 8" wide and 11" long so it fits the space I have under the TV. I got a bare case in the off-white colour.
  39. Unigine Valley 1.0 Benchmark Thread ** Post your scores**

Yeah, it's ridiculous, need to get some self-control! Haswell's a bit of a disappointment and not looking looking like a worthwhile upgrade. I might try watercooling..
