Thanks for the comments!
I haven't added to nvidia since my initial purchase that will soon go through it's second split. It's in a retirement account so I have at least 10 more years before I need the funds. Selling 2 shares at today's prices almost doubles my initial investment. It would...
How do you determine what a reasonable market cap for a company is? Nvidia at 3 trillion seems overly steep.
I've been very, very long on Nvidia. Trying to figure out a 'sweet' spot to sell a few shares. Figure sometime after the split.
According to Quicken/Morningstar xray, In august 2023...
The $25 was per share. Same day I bought some AMD for slightly less...much better return on that one! AMD I did keep adding to as it fell and I still had cash flow.
INTC, I wasn't directly reinvesting dividends until 2020. Prior to that the dividends were being pooled into other assets. I...
I bought a very, very small amount in 2001 for $25.43. It hasn't been a great long term one at this point....I'm up 10.88% for the total gain. I haven't sold b/c I think it should get some traction at some point and its not worth selling.
I despise Apple products- they are not intuitive to me. I almost bought some of their stock before the ipod came out. I didn't think it would take off and there was talk about them going bankrupt if the ipod didn't take. Ohh well....at least I put that money into nVidia back then.
Wish I had a money tree....
I wouldn't pluck it from my nVidia to put into intel. Still would love to figure out how to 'play' nvidia besides my hold logic.
If you're a reader, I recommend The Intelligent Investor.
HOW to buy index funds....just buy them in whatever broker you use. On how to pick them...that's a lot of personal how do you want your money invested.
The S&P500 index fund(there's many versions, pick any) is fairly diversified and the...
I was more excited about ARM when Nvidia was trying to pull it under it's wing.
I agree with AdamK47 - I'm not a big IPO fan. I got into Cava and am down 24% in one account and 18% in another. I'm glad it was only a small amount of shares, but my plan is for the long term.
I'm leaning on leaving the JNJ shares I have alone and not convert any of them. I have both now and are on the 'set it and forget it' path.
I'm hoping that once Kenvue is added to the S&P 500 it will get a boost.
Anyone with JNJ shares? Looking for pros/cons of exchanging shares with Kenvue.
I know JNJ is staying with their medical instruments and that Kenvue is the spinoff on the end consumer medical supplies. I'm debating if it's worth exchanging some shares or just adding some Kenvue.
I saw today...
I bought mine in 2008 using money I was overpaid for working overtime. After the split, my cost / share is $1.7247. I wish I would have been reinvesting my dividends. I didn't start that until 2020 and it's given me 3+ shares.
Before 2020 I pooled all my dividends into other stocks like JNJ/PG.
Long term, I think it will be a good one, short term not so much. One of the guys that helped Panera grow to it's size is responsible for the chain now, so I'm hopeful it will be a good long term investment. I put < $1000 into it.
I know IPO are usually not a good idea.
I'm glad I didn't try to play the ramp up prior to earnings.
Granted, I've seen big gains in after hours not materialize in the daytime hours, but today I'm smiling from my indecisiveness!
Is anyone playing the NVIDIA ups and downs? It seems that typically I've seen it run up before earnings by quite a bit, then drop a decent amount after the earnings. I'd like to be able to use what I've been seeing with nvidia to make more educated guesses on when to get into it/sell some of it.
You forgot that the advisor would still be ahead despite your downturn!
My current employer 401k is an odd one. I get a yearly statement and that's it. I have no say in the funds or how it's being managed. I have a 401k from my former employer that I like to compare. In 2020, my former 401k...
Now it's up 93% :)
For the most part, I agree, the indexes are the more sound investment. Honestly, the amount was very small, about 20 shares so it's still not that much.
I bought nvidia in Oct. 2008 and never sold it. For a long time it wasn't doing much at all. Today, that's a different...
Back in the good old days of 2010, due to the discussions on this board, I bought a small amount of RMBS before a big trial. I don't remember the guys' name, but he was hugely into RMBS and was subsequently crushed when the trial went the wrong way. My position was small, but it lost a lot of...

Not too bad for the last 5 years.....last year wasn't great though!
I've stopped using Capital One. I've had an account that eventually became their account. That account was a high yield that was deprecated mutliple times. Previously they let me virtually switch the account but this time they wouldn't. Each time they've deprecated the accounts, they are not...
Read The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham.
The valuation of the MEME stocks isn't a valuation, it is speculation. If you decide to dabble in speculation make sure you're comfortable with losing your gamble.
The S&P 500 is a gamble too, but it adds and subtracts the up comers and the...
I started buying some NMZ last year to get a start on some tax free-ish cash flow. It's my first time getting into a fund that is federally exempt and partially state exempt. I'm using FreeTaxUSA since it has usually fit my needs. It seems a bit cryptic now on the 1099-DIV form though...
Buying shares today for a split tomorrow shouldn't matter. However, I read an article a few years ago that tracked splits and their gains after the split. They found the split stock seemed to continue to grow for on average the next 3 years. With TSLA you have a lot of pre speculation on the...
If only Nvidia would split....I've been long since 06 :)
I jumped into a couple shares of Tesla in my HSA account at 500 a piece when the market caught the covid.
And not likely, but I'd love AMD to pull an Nvidia I'd be a very, very happy man.
Always put as much as you can afford into the 401k. What you do with it while in there is up to you. If you are concerned on the correction you can allocate your funds to a more stable option. You could do the math and have anything over the match go into the stable funds while keeping your...
