    Cheapest cell phone voice plan?

I second Page Plus. TracFone/Net10 and Ting are also worth a look.

I need a small, powerful smartphone.

HTC First. Disable Facebook home, and you're left with a really nice 4.3" phone with stock Android.

HTC One and Galaxy S4 Google play edition came out today...

Considering Google themselves heavily botched the 4.2 update for the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus, I'm not that worried about Samsung or HTC being dramatically worse.

    Best 4-4.3 inch smartphone?

-iPhone 5S (excellent all around, iOS) -HTC One S (excellent camera and hardware, mediocre/poor screen, Android 4.1 and Sense 4) -HTC First (excellent hardware, poor camera, pretty good screen, stock Android 4.1 if FB Home disabled) -Samsung Galaxy S2 (okay hardware, pretty decent camera...

Finally saw a Windows Phone in the wild

I actually know a number of people with Windows Phones. I know one person with a Lumia 800, one with a Samsung Focus, one with a Lumia 920, one with a Lumia 900 (and a 920 for his wife), and one with a Lumia 820. Also, there was someone with an HTC Arrive that recently upgraded to an iPhone 5.

What smartphones have you gone through till now?

    Blackberry 8830 + Samsung T401G -> Nexus 7 + Samsung T401G texting phone -> HTC Evo 4G (running CM9).

Do you think all the praise the One's build is getting will make Samsung change?

Let's see how the GS4 sells. If the HTC One can put a significant dent in it, Samsung's probably going to do something. On the other hand, Samsung has been making plastic phones for as long as I remember, and might not budge. Virtually every single GS4 compares it to the One and notes that...

    iPhone 5s same screen size?

The issue IMO is more with one-handed usage. Can you pull down the notification shade with one hand? Can you reach across most of the screen with your thumb(because some apps stupidly place buttons on the corners)?. Can you dial with one hand? It depends on your hand size, but for me my 4.3" Evo...

Dual ANDROID car charger and usb cables

Are you using genuine HTC/Apple/Samsung/Amazon/etc. chargers or some cheap $2 Ebay charger? You get what you pay for with a $2 Ebay charger This is not how electricity works. A phone will only pull as much current as its charging circuitry determines. You can plug your phone into a 5V 1000A...

What's improving in newer generation smartphones

Not necessarily. You can do HD voice (AMR-wideband) on non-LTE networks.

HTC One vs Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Nexus 4

It has to be anodized. Bare aluminum is soft and very easily scratched. Pretty much any consumer electronics made of aluminum are anodized.

HTC One vs Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Nexus 4

Confirmed sources for HTC abandoning the One X? These were rumors the last time I heard them.

Dual ANDROID car charger and usb cables

For Monoprice cables buy the 24/28awg cable (it's about 30 cents more per cable than the cheaper 28/28awg). The quality is much, much better. The cable also has less resistance so it should charge faster.

HTC One vs Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Nexus 4

The One's bootloader is unlockable through HTCdev. Possible exception of the AT&T model. Pretty much all phones come with locked bootloaders (yes, even the Nexus line). What matters is that the manufacturer allows you to easily unlock it.

Switch to Virgin Mobile from T-Mobile by 5/31, Get $100 credit

The only reason to do this is if T-mobile coverage sucks in your area. Otherwise, T-mobile's phone selection is better (by virtue of being a GSM network), and their network is much faster.

Smartphone newb: iPhone 5 or Galaxy S4?

You probably want to throw the HTC One into the mix too, along with other options.

Might order a Nexus 7 today, still worth it?

It's a 90 day warranty though, compared to 1 year on the new one.

BYO(lte)D @ Ting as of now.

I have an Evo 4G with a Ting plan and only 100MB of data/month. I'm 20 days into the plan and I've only used 12MB so far. Not everyone streams 10 gigs a month on Netflix or insane amounts of music on the go. I stay on Wifi as much as I can, and keep my music locally, along with maps. I use...

    HTC One Camera question

The 2um pixels are four times the size of the 1.1um pixels in the GS4 and collect much more photons, so expect much better low light performance on the HTC One (coupled with optical image stabilization and an f/2.0 lens) And really - are you really going to use a 13 megapixels when 99% of...

BYO(lte)D @ Ting as of now.

But it's golden if you're low-usage. Show me anywhere else I can get a plan with 100MB of data for less than $20 a month (T-mo wants $30 for 5 gigs, which is a really good deal, unless you're the person who barely uses 50MB a month). Pretty much no one else caters to low-usage as well as ting.

    Small tablet recommendation?

I'd go with the Nexus 7. Owning one myself, it's a great little tablet. It's got a better OS than the Kindle Fire (real, stock, Android 4.2), and a better screen and better processor than the Galaxy Tab.

Tablets racing to the bottom, phones the opposite

Considering the Nexus 4 came out 4 months after the Nexus 7 and costs $150 more, that's not really surprising.

    Recommend a good, CHEAP tablet...

I'm pretty sure it's not going to go lower than that - the profit margins are probably really tight at $199 considering what you're getting (Tegra 3, 1280x800 IPS screen, etc.) As for buying them used, you might be able to find a used 8GB for somewhat lower, though a lot of the early Nexus 7s...

    Need new laptop for college

If you really like matte screens, look at the business-end laptops - Lenovo Thinkpads, Dell Latitudes and Precisions, and HP Elitebooks. They're generally more expensive than consumer-end laptops, but the build-quality, repairability, and support are much better.

    laptop under $500?

I'd say either a Dell Latitude E5430 or a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430. Both are quality machines.

    Seeking a multi-tasking laptop

Also go for the highest screen resolution your eyes can handle (probably a 1080p display on a 15"). With Windows 7 onwards, the side-by-side windows feature is incredible for multitasking, and that feature really benefits from a high-res display.

    Recommend a good, CHEAP tablet...

Nexus 7. It's an awesome tablet. Stock Android is also far better than whatever Amazon and B&N put on their tablets.
