Do You Really Miss the Start Menu

I do not miss Start and wonder why all the negative comments about its absence. Might it be because some folks haven't spent the (brief) time to learn something new?

My cut on the 7 / 8 thing. Yesterday - 7 Today and future - 8 I like 8 and don't see the warts others do. YMMV

Windows 8. I Knew it

No problems with the 8.1 update here. It's better than 8.0 and 8.2 will likely be better than 8.1, etc. Some will complain. Some will not. YMMV

No problem upgrade to 8.1 Pro with MMC for me. Haven't tried everything yet, but what I have works as before. Thumbs up

Why everyone uses Window 8 all of a sudden?

Been using Win8 for about 6 months now w/no problems. I took the (short) time to learn it. Lookin' forward to Win8.1 in a month or so. YMMV

This came to mind after I read the "someone in China" comment relative to the SkyDrive: PICARD - Quickly, Mister Data. Lock out the main computer. DATA: I have isolated the main computer with a fractal encryption code. It is highly unlikely the Borg will be able to break it.

I installed a Crucial M4 in my HP Mini-210 netbook a few months ago. I am (more than) very satisfied with its performance.

What do you love about Windows 8?

#5 - I should have said "desktop along with the Modern UI" better security - includes built-in Defender that seems to work well near as I can tell. Didn't mean to suggest/imply Win7 wasn't secure.

New 128gb SSD advice (M4 vs Sammy 840 vs Vertex 4)

I will only speak to the SSD I own and use, the Crucial M4. No complaints. While some others here seem to hate the thing, I gotta wonder if they've actually owned one. Probably not much wrong with the other SSDs mentioned here either. Probably.

What do you love about Windows 8?

For $40 I took a 2 year old netbook and Win 8 made it ---- boot much faster run much faster get better battery life get a modern UI get a desktop get improved utilities get a nice selection of apps get better security Also got me to learn something new.

Fix SSD alignment on work computer

When I used GParted to align my M4, it left it unbootable, so I found...... http://www.partitionwizard.com/products.html The home edition is free and it worked fine for me.

Windows 8 runs on Netbook?

After a few days running Win8 on my HP Mini-210, I'm lovin' it. Boots quick, runs snappy on a "yesterday" machine, apps are nice, etc. Not sure why the complaints - maybe cause it's a new paradigm - but whatever I'm very happy with Win8. I ain't goin' back. YMMV

I just installed 2GB of memory in my HP Mini-210. Took about 5 minutes. All I needed to do was remove the bottom cover, remove the old and snap in the new. Sorry your mini was a PITA.

I have a HP Mini-210. It passed the Upgrade Assistant test and I intend to install Win 8 on it soon. I've read, as Zorander mentions, that Win 8 runs better that previous flavors even on a lowly netbook.

Upgrading from XP you won't get the "Create DVD / USB" option. You will if upgrading from Vista or Win 7.

I believe it does, Upgrade Assistant listed no h/w issues and I know that all the apps need to be reinstalled. It also has 1368 x 768 resolution, not common on a netbook.
