Best software for Windows to make some beats

Anyone recommend good music creation software to lay down some tracks and make some beats? Nothing full on professional, but a good consumer version.

Being Offered a Logitech G5 for $40 shipped (sealed)

Why did they remove a thumb button? I use both all the time, especially when browsing going forward and backward. EDIT: Nevermind, I just read another thread where you can set the tilt wheel to go forward and backward in a browser. Still odd they'd get rid of a button.

upgrade cpu or memory?

Thanks. I've overclocked to 3ghz and all is well. With just surfing the web it's staying at 31C. Gonna try some heavy gaming and see where it goes to. A HSF upgrade would be good and then maybe I'll get the new RAM. I'd like to see if I can get this processor to 3.4ghz.

Safe temperature?

I think it's a Prescott. And stock HSF. It's at 31C with just surfing. I'll try some gaming and see how hot it gets. But my question still is, what should I be worried about with regards to temperature?

Safe temperature?

As a followup here. What is a safe temperature for a P4? I've overclocked my 2.6ghz to 3ghz right now with no additional cooling. According to MBM5, the cpu is at 31C. How hot is too hot for a P4 so I know when to stop if I try to bump up the speed a little more?

upgrade cpu or memory?

I currently have a home built system with an Intel 2.6ghz processor, 1gb pc2700 RAM, Geforce 6800 graphics card running XP. I'd like to try and get a little more oomph out of the system for gaming and heavy photo editing for the next 8 months but can't really afford to upgrade everything right...

xtknight, I assume a widescreen LCD would also be good with an xbox 360, right? Would I get 720p or 1080i? How about this LCD paired with a Chaintech 6800 for PC gaming and hooking up a 360?

To answer your question, yes. Tell us which movie(s) you watch with the DVD player correctly set to 16:9 that still show bars. You should know that any movie shot in anamorphic (2.35:1) will still have bars on top and bottom of a widescreen tv because anamorphic is even wider than 16:9. Good...

Playing around with the trial of Proshow Gold and it's pretty good. Thanks for the recommendation, this is the kind of app I was looking for.

I used the highest quality settings on Nerovision express. I think Adobe and Nero use Mpeg-1. The photos are pristine on my computer. But when previewing the slide show and watching it on a TV, the photos look horrid. Pixelized.

I've tried Photoshop Elements 3, and Nero Express, but both compress photos too much when creating a photo slide show to view on DVD. I'm shooting with a Nikon D70 in RAW and then saving as a JPEG without resizing. So the photos are very high quality to begin with. Anyone know of another...

Might be a stupid xbox question

I want to use a great pair of Sennheiser headphones when playing xbox (with a baby sleeping, it's a necessity at night). The xbox has no headphone jack. My home theater has no headphone jack. And my TV has no headphone jack. Am I outta luck?

USB 2 or Firewire

Now I just gotta figure out why my firewire ports do not recognize the external hard drive. I have a usb 2.0 and firewire pci card installed. The drive is recognized when connected in to the usb 2 ports, but it's not recognize when connected via the firewire ports on the same card. Any ideas?

As I understand it, USB 2 is 480 mbits/sec and Firewire is 400 mbits/sec, correct? If I hook up an external hard drive, USB 2 will give me the faster transfer rates of the two, right? I always thought firewire was faster....

SATA and IDE questions

Thanks. I'm not looking to reinstall windows. So I want to keep my OS on the IDE drive and connect a second SATA drive for photo and video storage. My quesiton is about whether or not there are any problems doing this before I go out and buy a SATA drive.

hard drive recovery services?

I thought about that too...it looks like a regular hard drive in an external enclosure. Just not sure if it has standard connectors on the back of the drive. I'm sure the data is most likely fine, it's probably the usb and firewire connectors that are fried.
