    AMD Beema/Mullins Launch Thread

It's 1.8 GHz. Initial reports said 2 GHz but all the laptop listings I've seen have said 1.8 GHz. Seems to me that the A6-6410 might just be an A4-6310 with turbo enabled for the CPU and GPU. Makes me wonder if we'll see lower end turbo parts a month or two later like what happened with Bay...

    AMD APU14 China

I'd forgotten about this... the guide for the HP Touchsmart 10 already lists the E1 Micro-6200T (1.0/1.4 GHz, 300 MHz): http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04249782.pdf The current model uses the awful 1.0 GHz/225 Mhz A4-1200.

    AMD APU14 China

Thankfully Beema uses the same socket as Kabini and fits within the same TDP range so we should be seeing the existing smaller laptops getting upgrades fairly soon: Medion Akoya (10.1") ASUS F102BA (10.1") HP Touchsmart 10z (10.1") Lenovo IdeaPad S215 (11.6") Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145 (11.6")...

AMD: Success of small cores vs. big cores?

Sales and profit wise, mostly in mobile because that's where they overlap. We already know - roughly - how they stack up against one another in performance. My impression is that with such a large die and a top bin that only competes with Intel's (cheaper and smaller) low end, AMD won't...

AMD: Success of small cores vs. big cores?

I'm curious about this. My anecdotal evidence is that of the 10 AMD laptops my local electronics store sells, 9 of them are based on Kabini. Also, how do they compare in cost? Kabini was 107mm2 and Richland was 248mm2. Beema and Kaveri are similar, and they're both on GlobalFoundries' 28nm.

    Don't forget Beema as well. A6-6310 @ 15W scores 780 points.

[WCCF] AMD Kaveri Mobile APUs Vs. ULV Haswell Benchmarks

GPU could be about right. But the CPU in the FX-7500 should be between the i3 and i5 in single-threaded and just below the i5 in multithreaded.

    Mobile kaveri

The Geekbench 3 scores are similar... A8-5545M: Single thread - 1052, Multi thread - 2826 A6-5200: Single thread - 1026, Multi thread - 3296 The small cores have been encroaching on the big cores for a while now: Mobile Kaveri will have to improve significantly to pull away.

    Mobile kaveri

Looking at the Xbox One die... What about approximately half of that? 4 Puma cores 6 GCN CUs 16MB eSRAM (a la Crystalwell) 170-180mm2 I have no idea how 16MB of SRAM would fare though.

Whoops, sorry. They're in Haswell's favour.
  14. S

    Mobile kaveri

30% faster in single threaded tasks. 15% faster in multithreaded if Kaveri can only hit its base clocks but it might be a wash if it can go higher than that. Yes, CPU-wise it's very close to the A6-6310 but with a 30% higher turbo. Especially considering Steamroller and Jaguar/Puma have...

Low & Mid end Kaveri getting late - AMD mistake that will cost them?

The big cores are dying because they suck, not because users and OEMs are confused about the naming scheme. Mobile Richland is a 248mm2 chip whose top bin barely beats the much smaller Core i3 while consuming more power. Think about that for a moment. Beema only competes with Intel's lower end...

    AMD Beema/Mullins Launch Thread

Maybe possible with the E1-Micro 6200T. But it really depends how much that costs and it would need a heatsink unlike the Raspberry Pi. I'd love to see a fanless mini PC using the A4-Micro 6400T or A10-Micro 6700T a la AMD's nano PC concept: But I just know that it's never going to happen...

    AMD Beema/Mullins Launch Thread

Obviously not against i5s and i7s, but now with the 2.4 GHz turbo, 800 MHz GPU clock, and reduced TDP the A6-6310 is fairly competitive with Haswell i3s. Much more so than the A6-5200 was with the Ivy Bridge i3s, anyway.
  19. S

    AMD Beema/Mullins Launch Thread

TechReport and ExtremeTech are both reporting that the A6-6310 has a 2.4 GHz turbo and a 2.0 GHz base clock. The rest of the Beema processors don't implement turbo. Even if Mullins is a farce, the more believable Beema parts are still a really solid update IMO. A6-5200 -> A6-6310 (20% higher...

    AMD Beema/Mullins Launch Thread

I just noticed that Anand might've incorrectly read the idle power graph. It clearly says Beema and Beema only in the graph, but Anand then says: And posts this... ...assuming that Beema and Mullins consume the same amount of power under idle. I find that unlikely, but maybe...

Guess what product AMD is revealing!

It will be very interesting to see how the AMD A10 Micro-6700T performs in reality. Possibly the dumbest name for a chip ever, though. I've seen retailers list the A4-5000 as the A4M-5000B so god knows how this will turn out.

Tweaktown : Nvidia Jetson (Tegra K1)

At least it's obvious that the K1 won't come close to the 360 GFLOP figure in tablets and phones. Not when it's consuming 8W+ to achieve that while current chips consume 3-4W or even less. It's more efficient than the Adreno 330 for sure but it remains to be seen how it will compete with...

    Athlon 5350 mini video Review

Sure you could. The passive cooling solutions on the Bay Trail boards would probably considered failures if Prime95 and Furmark were the type of applications they had to deal with. More interesting would be the numbers while encoding a video or playing a game. From what I've seen it's all...

Not sold by Dell themselves though apparently. I wonder if this Beema laptop will meet the same fate.

    Athlon 5350 Initial Impressions

It's much better than the C60. 2.5x faster in single thread and anywhere between 4-5x faster in multi thread. The GPU is 3-4x faster as well.

Oh how I love me some Core2Duo...

Very silly to buy a netbook with a 40nm 9W chip and then complain that it doesn't match the performance of your 65nm 65W chip from a few generations back. I mean, holy hell. An i3 3220 will absolutely destroy that E6550 and use less power to boot. From the tone of your post you'd think that...

AMD Athlon Kabinis vs Pentium Baytrail Atoms

Is FS1B the first user-replaceable SoC socket? It'd be interesting to see the longevity of the motherboards considering there's no separate chipset that needs to be upgraded. If the socket supports multi-channel RAM from the start a single motherboard could potentially last 2-3 generations.

    Broadwell TDP, partially DDR4?

A $1100 convertible is probably not the best candidate to show competitiveness against ARM chips and Atom. But I've checked out the review on NotebookCheck and it can actually turbo up to 2 GHz when loading the CPU, so I was wrong there. The clocks do drop to 800 MHz when both the CPU+GPU...

    Broadwell TDP, partially DDR4?

    Broadwell TDP, partially DDR4?

You're greatly overestimating the performance of Haswell at those power levels. A cheap Haswell clocked at 800 MHz (9.5W TDP) doesn't even beat the Atom Z3770 (<4W) in single-threaded tasks and has half the cores so gets blown away in anything multi-threaded. Unless Broadwell somehow halves...

    AMD Athlon X2 370K Socket FM2 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor @4.2Ghz.

A Celeron G1620 will perform a bit better in single-threaded tasks, significantly better in multi-threaded tasks, and consume less power. Single module Piledriver chips are something you'll generally want to avoid.

    Atom Z3370-D 3Dmark Cinebench11.5 etc

This is a Celeron J1850 with a 10W TDP. If these results are correct, performance per clock in Cinebench looks to be somewhere between the original Atom and Bobcat. The Pentium J2850 (2.4 GHz) would edge out the A4-5000 (1.5 GHz) in CPU performance, but GPU performance looks pretty anaemic.

First sighting of a Kabini mini-itx board

The 1007U will beat the A6-5200 in single-thread Cinebench by ~25%, while the A6-5200 will pull ahead by 60% in the multi-threaded test. GPU performance in the A6-5200 should be about 50-70% better. We don't really know how much the price will be (apart from that Japanese listing), so you...

Is AMD A8 5500 cpu is better for gaming...???

If your only option is to use the IGP, sure. It's still pretty far ahead of any Intel part at that price point. There's also the A8-6500, which is 5-10% faster (both CPU + GPU) but slightly more expensive, or the A8-5600K, which is cheaper and has maybe 5% better CPU performance but a higher...
