What type of drives did you try using. Word is that Maxtor drives seem to work best. I'm planning on trying to use the 40gb Maxtor 5400rpm that was in my ReplayTV.
Taken from FW:
Outpost.com has the PS2 Network Adapter (White Box/OEM) for $19.99 + shipping (tax in CA). I received mine today and it the official made-by-sony adapter that has the IDE connectors with which you can connect a Hard Drive. There's been a lot of buzz around the console world...
I've been shopping for the tiny optio s4i for a few weeks now and was bummed when Costco.com sold out last week. However, I stumbled upon this today at OneCall.com.
It's $314 including 3-day shipping. No Tax in CA.

So my current rig:
P4 1.6a@2.4
Samsung 2700
Abit BG-7 (845G)
I was thinking of getting new PC3200 memory and a P4 2.8 (Not sure whether NW or Prescott is better). Will I be able to get decent OC'ing with air cooling without getting a new motherboard? Say into the 3.2ghz range? Would I notice...
So what I think I'm hearing is that although there are newer and faster processors I won't really see a significant enough performance increase to really justify the cost at the present time. Example, I won't see the improvement that I saw when I upgraded from a PIII-800 to the P4 1.6a@2.4...
Hi All,
It's been awhile since I came to this forum. Specifically it's been about 2 years since you guys helped me build my 1.6a -> 2.4. I recently received a Radeon 9800pro as a gift and was wondering if now would be a good time to upgrade.
Current Rig:
P4 1.6a @ 2.4ghz 600mhz fsb
Samsung...
Thanks for the great deal!
Bought 2 @ 57.50 and then used a $15 off $75 coupon from FW. Total after rebates is $30 /each + tax
Rebates printed out at the register and got NEC also!
Called and they said my check is in the mail! Now that everyone has received their rebates (well almost everyone) here's one vote for Deal of The Year - Circuit City 120gb WD HD for $10
Thanks again!
This reminds me of those potato clocks from like 10 years back. I remember getting one as a stocking stuffer for xmas. It had these two copper wires you would put into two potatoes (i'm assuming one for + one for -). It would have enuf juice to power the LED clock in the middle. Only problem...
This is a great deal! Been lookin for some high capacity NIMH for my digicam for awhile. Went to the Sawtelle/National store in West LA this morning and they had a lot. Thanks!
Received my $10 rebate from CC today. Checked the above link for my $80 (received the $60 instant) and my information was not found? Is every one else's showing up?
Interesting... YES by drive did come with the brown-bottom box! It only has ONE LED on it tho . . . it's located in the exact center of the drive right below the tray and it changes from GREEN, RED/YELLOW depending on what it's currently doing. I was having a hell of a time trying to flash and...
Thanks CheetahMk2 for the info on the Asus. I wasn't able to totally understand what I was reading regarding the copy protection advantage the Asus drive has. Do you have a link?
I was able to flash my Cendyne CRW-5224A using the firmware and flasher from the ASUS website:

After considerable research the following is my preffered choices between the three:
1) Asus
2) Lite-On
3) BenQ
Please see my previous post (above) regarding Asus vs Lite-On
The model reference that I posted is on a big white sticker on the back of the box. It's a big table with 2 columns and like 20 or so rows. I believe the "model" row is near the bottom, I think it might even be the last row.
Anyone have any opinions on the ASUS vs LITE-ON comparison? I...
I picked one up at staples last nite ... did some research and decided on the Asus over the Lite-on. I was reading a post on the CloneCD Forums (sorry don't have a link) that mentioned that the new versions of CD-ROM Security Software (Safedisk3?) are targeting Lite-On drives. So in a nutshell...
Actually JB the e335 has a fully compatible SDIO slot. Search for it on google or lookup some avail SDIO accessories. I've seen SDIO Bluetooth cards, SDIO Wireless Keyboards so far. In fact, Toshiba sells a SDIO Bluetooth card for the e335 on it's website. So the slot in not just for storage...
Any word on how much these Wi-FI SDIO cards are gonna be? Most likely we're all gonna pay more for em than the device they're goin into! Thanks again for the hot deal. BTW the link above doesn't work (404)
Beware this media. I have a Pioneer A05 and a majority of these didn't work for me. The initial burn would be sucessful but when watching the movie on my APEX it would stall about half way to 3/4 way through
FYI... Just PMed with Staples. Used a $30 off $150 coupon plus got the 110% price match. Total was $181.00 with tax (CA). As always with PMs YMMV. One less rebate to worry about...
From what I can gather this is a FLAMING HOT DEAL!
What I learned from the whole Western Digital 120gb CC fiasco is ... CHARGE IT FIRST, THINK LATER
Remember if it doesn't pan out we'll all figure out within the next week or so which is well within the return period for OD.
I have PDF'ed...
Thanks for the hot deal guys! I got a 60IR today during lunch at the Culver City, CA store.
I had some questions regarding the drive:
1) I was lucky enough to get a drive with the 8mb cache
2) I was reading a review on the newer WD2000JB drive over on Tom's Hardware and noticed something...
Couldn't find it on the BB web site...
So does this AIW 9000Pro with the Rage Theater 200 have hardware MPEG2? If it does then this would make it a good value vid card since a basic TV Tuner would already cost about $40-$50.
I'm giving this one a lot of thought and am very tempted. Mostly because soon these RED PCB versions will be completely unavailable. Looks like newegg.com has a 15% restocking fee. So at $160 if you return it that will be $24.
So to sum it up:
Looks like it's a 50/50 chance that it'll mod...
Hi All,
For once I'm not posting about an OC question...
I just sold my again Compaq Armada M700 on ebay. I wanted to securely wipe the hard drive before I reinstall the OS and basic apps. Not that I have anything to hide but I have been using the laptop to purchase things online, run...
This is the first I've heard of the Abit capacitor issue . . . I bought a BG-7 back in June when very few 845G mobo were avail. It's been running perfectly stable at 2.4ghz 375DDR since day one. THG gave good marks to the Soltek 845G board and it's only $79 on newegg, might be worth...
I haven't looked too hard yet but the site doesn't seem to say what enhancements the bios actually does. The only thing I see it that it adds Mr Natural image on bootup.
hmmm, seems a little risky to me. But maybe it'll give us 3ghz OCs! Who wants to try!?
OK just bit the bullet and upgrade to the new bios. So far no increase or decrease in OC'ability. Tried using LOW/3:4 or LOW/SPD at 2.6,2.7, and 2.8 . . . no luck. Tried my maximum previous setting of HIGH/4:5@2.6v then enabled the new Enhanced Memory Function . . . no luck. So I guess I...
gururu,
You seem to be the only one that has actually benefited from this bios update. I'm running my BG-7 at 150mhz FSB using High:4:5 to get 375DDR. Is this what you were running before? How much of a performance increase did you see?
Anyone else have any positives using this upgrade...
The_Wildcard,
I too have a BG-7 with a 1.6@2.4 using a 300watt PS.
My temps have been about 42-49C Idle and 53-59C Prime. I've read post of people consistly having temps running Prime that are above 60C even with an Alpha and 80mm heatsink/fan combo.
My conclusion has been that the BG-7...
I'm a little hesitant to upgrade to the new bios now after TekVipers post above. Anyone who is brave enough to install the new bios please post their findings. The only thing I'm hoping to get out of a new bios is better temperature reporting and the possibility of running my DLT at 400DDR
Thanks
Hello All,
Bought two over the weekend at CompUSA in City of Industry, CA for $19.99. Not available online.
SKU: 284341 3 (Not sure if the last 3 is part of the sku or not)
Specs:
Chipset: Kyro 1 (Kyro-400XT)
Mem: 32mb SDR
Mem Interface: 128-bit
Mem Clock: 115mhz
Core Clock: 115mhz...
Khanivore,
Funny that I have almost the exact same setup as you, however I'm not having the same luck as you with the CPU prob cuz I only have a 300W PS.
I also have the DTL Samsung Ram and the furthest I can push it is DDR375. I've run Prime95 at different FSB and Voltages (both CPU and Mem)...
P4 1.6a@2.4ghz (150mhz FSB) using 5% vcore
Memory Settings (375DDR):
2.5,6,3,3
HIGH
4:5
2.6V
Completely Stable running Prime and other tests for days
BG-7 is reporting hot temps:
Idel: 45-49C
Load: 55-59C
Using Samsung "Original" DLT PC2700 512mb from Essential
OK I think the burn-in thing is definately bs. I upped the voltage to 2.8 and ran Prime 95 with various fsb speeds for the past week, 12 hours of Prime95 per session.
My DTL Ram still does exactly the same max:
Abit BG-7
P4 1.6a@2.4ghz (150fsb)
4:5 Mem ratio (375DDR)
Cas 2.5,6,3,3
This was...
I'm currently in the process of burning in my Samsung DTL Ram running at 1.8v trying to get to 400DDR. I haven't opened the case to see if the the stick of ram is hot but i know that some brands come with heat spreaders. Are these just a bunch of marketing hype or do they actually work? I saw...
Mike,
Well the good thing is that most of us with BG-7's are reporting similar results in temps. I myself have a 1.6a@2.4ghz using +5% voltage with the following temps:
Idle: 45-49C
Load: 55-58C
So I think your correct that the BG-7 is reporting temperature numbers a bit high. I was...
I went to CompUSA at lunch and checked it out.
It is indeed $29.95
Retail ATI Radeon 32mb SDR with TV OUT
The TV out is via S-Video or RCA Out.
Awesome deal . . . i didn't buy one tho cuz that would mean I have to spend another $200 on a second monitor for 2 monitor setup :)
The Culver...
