AMD drivers are known to be less than ideal
sounds like standard stuff for their products, at least back from when I used them and anecdotal evidence

it's ok, guys
just a minor setback. it's a 200$ card, after all. can't expect miracles for that price.
given AMD seems to have gone way past the p/W sweet spot in their reference design, I wouldn't expect miracles
but you're right, technically, we can't know for sure
woah I hope I won't get banned for this one, but I haven't found a better expression for this
a polished t*rd vs a great feat of engineering
the p/$ ratio being well in favor of the GTX 1070 at that point

agreed, I enjoy their work. the only problem is that it's in German, which makes it pretty hard to read for the majority of this forum
Google translate results are horrible most of the time when translating German to another language
it seems the PCI-E slot power issues are more than real
source: reddit.com/r/amd
Hardware.fr confirms this too. They also have a retail version (Sapphire 480) which exhibits the same problem. They also confirms the power usage going over 150W with both a review and retail version of the...

no ETA or pricing afaik
I'm sure the informed consumer who'll put this card in an OEM system with a shoddy mobo with blame himself
just blame the consumer for faulty products, I like that
TL;DR - GTX 970 performs much better when paired with weaker CPUs.
yet another reason to get a 2 year old card
can't be sure it won't fry (low-quality) mobos with the pci-e power issue being under investigation
I'm happy for you. The GTX 1070 is a perfect card for > 1080p 60 Hz gaming

I tried my best to like this card. I wanted to buy it for 1080p 60 Hz gaming, but I just can't buy it - there's way too many issues with it - at least with the reference design (a PR nightmare for AMD imo).
A lot of these issues COULD be fixed by AIB cards (8 pin power connector, a decent...
now, my expectations were pretty grounded, but to see AMD fail on oh so many levels is just inexcusable
a terrible and loud cooler (even worse than what they pulled off with the 290X - I can't believe people actually thought it'd be sufficient and I got called out for saying it wouldn't), a...
so the UK exiting out of a socialistic 'union' that forced them to take in a lot of welfare leechers and pay for failed countries while not getting their fair share back is a melt-down?
wow. it's a wake-up with short term negatives and long term gains if anything. look up the facts about the...
great sales ofc
people want performance now, not 28nm rebrands of GCN 1.0 cards
AMD can't compete atm so people are buying what's actually on the market
There's a reason why CUDA and G-Sync are proprietary technologies.
nVidia had to spend a whole lot of money on developing and marketing these technologies. What was AMD doing then? Waiting for nVidia to come up with innovations and copying their ideas.
People know who the real market...
you say it like it's due to people having been misled by marketing
when you have superior software/driver support (less driver issues), CUDA/G-sync/Shadowplay and more games optimized for your product, you can charge more for it because it's not just about the hardware you're buying at the...

oh well, it seems that a 2 year old mainstream card (GTX 970) spanks the overhyped RX 480 in nearly every scenario. So much for >R9 390X performance.
what a lot of people don't realize is that whatever temps will be in the launch day reviews are the best case scenario
blowers get dusty real quick and their cooling performance goes down. without taking the cooler apart (which is something 99% of people won't do), you can only do so much (and...
ofc I will
That's exactly what I'll do, wait for a decent non-ref card to come out. I just hope I won't be waiting too long.
// btw I think the RX 480 will be a good card, not a great card tho (not 8800 GT great). but imo the AMD marketing dept pushed it as a revolutionary jump in performance...
there have been screenshots from games, too (XFX, imgur album, GTA V and other games)
I believe in thermodynamics, too and I'm pretty sure the ref cooler doesn't cut it
but you can keep drinking the AMD Kool-Aid until the reviews are out
there have been plenty of legit looking leaks with GPU-z data & all you really need to do is look at the cooler - there's no way it won't throttle the card
38ish hours to go - I'm fairly confident throttling will be one of the major drawbacks mentioned in the reviews
I'm not saying the FE cooler is any better (I mean it probably is but it has to dissipate a bit more heat too)
just saying the ref cooler on the RX 480 is worse than what Intel includes with their lowest end desktop CPUs (and they got about 1/4 TDP of this gpu) and it will make RX 480...
RX 480's VR capabilities seem to be vastly inferior to the 2 year old mainstream GTX 970 card.
That's kind of sad for a card marketed for its VR performance.
Because non reference designs are coming later, who knows when.
I'm tired of poor reference designs (srsly, who would not pay 5$ extra for a decent cooler) and of waiting for a solid card. 28nm seems like a waste and >400$ GTX 1070 like overkill for my needs.
no thank you
