    Chromebook choice?

My old laptop is dying as we speak but I only have about $350~$400 for a new one. I'm thinking about getting a chromebook and installing Linux, because some of the higher-end ones now have 4GB of RAM and decent-ish processors. This will be a non-gaming laptop. I read Anand's Chromebook guide...

    Haswell i3-4340 review

Thanks guys, the thing about the poor price range (too close to i5, not that much better than Pentium) really struck me. I was gonna get an i3-4340 to build a non-gaming rig for one of my relatives, but now I figure the i5-4430 is a better choice, since it's just $30 extra for two more physical...

    High-budget: Water or air?

Don't wanna threadspam, so I'll put my new question here. I had a new idea for liquid cooling while keeping quiet. I'm planning on buying a half-decent 120mm radiator, tossing the pre-installed fan(s), and attaching this high-performance fan...

Another member of the Haswell club

Your opinion has been stated by many others on many occasions... why even bother? It's widely agreed upon that Haswell is a sidegrade for desktops, especially enthusiasts. The whole "K series" is just a money scam now, and overclockable i3's are not gonna happen. Ivy Bridge-E will release...

    High-budget: Water or air?

I've been agonizing over which CPU cooler would be appropriate for my friend's FX-8350. We don't want to kill the processor, but we'll probably just run it through AMD OverDrive auto on a voltage boost and see what frequency pops out. Point is, we need a cooler. By purchasing his computer...

Sidegrade to i7-4770 or wait for i7-4820k

Even if you don't overclock, there's no reason to sell your 3930K. It's a good processor. Even with the money you get back from selling it's not worth it to go SB-E -> Haswell/IB-E. The i7-4820K is an overclocking chip as well, so I see no reason to switch. Definitely don't get the 4770(K) if...

    G. Skill Sniper 1866 MHz (need help)

My friend installed 2x4GB sticks on a Gigabyte board. They were on the correct dual-channel DIMM slots. As usual, they defaulted to 1600MHz. When attempting to activate XMP, however, we failed to boot into the BIOS. After messing around with a couple of settings, we booted successfully into the...

    HP Pavilion?

I've been using my 2009 MacBook for a while now, and in the past week I think it's hit rock bottom. Can't watch 720p videos fluently or browse 5~6 tabs without freezing. In the market for a cheap laptop for word processing, internet browsing, and some *light* gaming. Most demanding thing I might...

Thanks. I was looking for an i5-3380M, but I realize those laptops are a little over my price range.

    AMD FX 6300 @ 4.5ghz benchmarks

I doubt its "stability." Not at 1.456v. Unless you just have an amazing chip, the FX-6300 needs ~1.48v just to get to 4.4 GHz. You can boot with insufficient power, and you might even be able to run Prime95 due to throttling. But try booting up an intensive game on your 4.5 GHz @ 1.456v...

Can I "turn off" a core?

Windows 7. Process lasso helped, thank you. I can't turn up Vcore anymore without housefire. Currently 1.5125v on air. I can't turn down overclock because all of my cool computer friends will laugh at me. This is my life :\

Can I "turn off" a core?

I have a 6-core processor. For some reason, core 1 does not agree with games. To get the best performance I always have to go to Task Manager, Set Affinity, and disable CPU #0. Otherwise I get this really weird stutter. Is there some way I can turn off the core permanently? I don't really mind...

upgrade me...I've to a 6870 and the itch to upgrade

An actual 5760x1080 BF3 setup is extremely demanding. ATI cards are usually better because of higher vRAM and pixel fill rates. You probably want crossfire 7970s or a 7990. The only reason you wouldn't want an AMD GPU is because you already have a bunch of the games in their game deals. If...

    keyboard polling rate

http://www.ttesports.com/productlist.aspx?c=2 I believe ThermalTake eSports' mechanical gaming keyboard line is 1000 Hz. I just have their cheap "plunger" keyboard, which is 250 Hz. At 250 I notice no delay whatsoever.

Only 2 24'' 120hz gaming monitors on the market?

My question is, when are the 16:10 monitors going to have 120 Hz? I want to have a 3-monitor setup someday, and I'd really love it to be 5760x1200 or 7680x1600, with full clarity of 120fps.

Question about 4-way SLI Titan setup

AMD unleashes first ever commercial “5GHz” CPU, the FX-9590

I thought it was pretty clear that AMD decided to scrap the release of these processors. I don't trust the German source at all, and if it really was a "leaked document" from inside AMD's labs I don't think they would be putting their Richland marketing picture next to the chart...

Give me a reason to go AMD... I WANT TO BELIEVE.

For heavy photoshop and adobe your probably want the Intel i7s or SB-E/IB-E, if you've got the money. Also, if you're going i7 Extreme then get faster frequency RAM, the CPU will really love it.

Oh look, another noob asking if he needs x amount of watts for SLI/Crossfire

Sweet. Turns out one of my molex cables was already IN the power supply, connected to the front LED fan (I think...). Just as a test, I powered down, and put two molex-to-PCIs into my current single graphics card. I am writing with that setup right now, and it seems to be working. Now I have...

Oh look, another noob asking if he needs x amount of watts for SLI/Crossfire

Okay, I found two molex-to-PCI converters from the video card... but only one actual PSU-to-molex. But that one connector splits into two molex outputs. Would that work? Can one 6-pin connection into the PSU cover both of the 6-pin PCIs on the graphics card? ...or is that just silly?

So I can convert the SATA/peripheral output into PCI power with the appropriate adapters? Because that would be really great.

Well, big blunder on my part. HX650 is "SLI ready" but not "CrossFire ready." It only has 2 PCI 6+2 connectors, and I need 4. Gotta cough up more money now.

    Intel Enthusiast CPU Predictions

But the thing is, $400~500 chips usually don't even need overclocking unless you're running a server or doing professional video editing/encoding of 4K/8K resolutions. So it defeats the original mentality of an overclock.
  34. P

    Should I OC?

This is false in my experience. You need a moderately significant voltage boost. FX-6300 is rather poor at voltage/clockspeed scaling. I would suggest the Arctic Freezer A30. Massive, whisper-quiet, keeps your shit ice cold. Basically a slightly-downgraded Noctua for WAY cheaper than it should be.

Hmm. Videos are fine on Chrome, which leads me to conclude it's not a Flash problem (I won't do the uninstall). Like I said I made sure Firefox hardware acceleration is off. What tends to be the problem with Firefox?

So I build a computer a few months back. Had to redo the Windows installation when I realized the SSD wasn't on AHCI. Running a 2-drive system caused more problems than expected. So, I have an HX650. Nice modular Corsair PSU, +12V @54amps, and 80+ gold certified, 90% efficiency under load. I have an FX-6300 at a moderate overclock (I always fear that I will "burn out" the CPU for some reason, also it keeps the fan nice and quiet) of 4.2Ghz @ 1.4125V. My Sapphire 7870...
