Chromebook choice?

My old laptop is dying as we speak but I only have about $350~$400 for a new one. I'm thinking about getting a chromebook and installing Linux, because some of the higher-end ones now have 4GB of RAM and decent-ish processors. This will be a non-gaming laptop. I read Anand's Chromebook guide...

Sidegrade to i7-4770 or wait for i7-4820k

Even if you don't overclock, there's no reason to sell your 3930K. It's a good processor. Even with the money you get back from selling it's not worth it to go SB-E -> Haswell/IB-E. The i7-4820K is an overclocking chip as well, so I see no reason to switch. Definitely don't get the 4770(K) if...

AMD FX 6300 @ 4.5ghz benchmarks

I doubt its "stability." Not at 1.456v. Unless you just have an amazing chip, the FX-6300 needs ~1.48v just to get to 4.4 GHz. You can boot with insufficient power, and you might even be able to run Prime95 due to throttling. But try booting up an intensive game on your 4.5 GHz @ 1.456v...

Windows 7. Process lasso helped, thank you. I can't turn up Vcore anymore without housefire. Currently 1.5125v on air. I can't turn down overclock because all of my cool computer friends will laugh at me. This is my life :\

I have a 6-core processor. For some reason, core 1 does not agree with games. To get the best performance I always have to go to Task Manager, Set Affinity, and disable CPU #0. Otherwise I get this really weird stutter. Is there some way I can turn off the core permanently? I don't really mind...

An actual 5760x1080 BF3 setup is extremely demanding. ATI cards are usually better because of higher vRAM and pixel fill rates. You probably want crossfire 7970s or a 7990. The only reason you wouldn't want an AMD GPU is because you already have a bunch of the games in their game deals. If...

My question is, when are the 16:10 monitors going to have 120 Hz? I want to have a 3-monitor setup someday, and I'd really love it to be 5760x1200 or 7680x1600, with full clarity of 120fps.

I thought it was pretty clear that AMD decided to scrap the release of these processors. I don't trust the German source at all, and if it really was a "leaked document" from inside AMD's labs I don't think they would be putting their Richland marketing picture next to the chart...

Give me a reason to go AMD... I WANT TO BELIEVE.

For heavy photoshop and adobe your probably want the Intel i7s or SB-E/IB-E, if you've got the money. Also, if you're going i7 Extreme then get faster frequency RAM, the CPU will really love it.

Okay, I found two molex-to-PCI converters from the video card... but only one actual PSU-to-molex. But that one connector splits into two molex outputs. Would that work? Can one 6-pin connection into the PSU cover both of the 6-pin PCIs on the graphics card? ...or is that just silly?

Well, big blunder on my part. HX650 is "SLI ready" but not "CrossFire ready." It only has 2 PCI 6+2 connectors, and I need 4. Gotta cough up more money now.

But the thing is, $400~500 chips usually don't even need overclocking unless you're running a server or doing professional video editing/encoding of 4K/8K resolutions. So it defeats the original mentality of an overclock.

Should I OC?

This is false in my experience. You need a moderately significant voltage boost. FX-6300 is rather poor at voltage/clockspeed scaling. I would suggest the Arctic Freezer A30. Massive, whisper-quiet, keeps your shit ice cold. Basically a slightly-downgraded Noctua for WAY cheaper than it should be.

Hmm. Videos are fine on Chrome, which leads me to conclude it's not a Flash problem (I won't do the uninstall). Like I said I made sure Firefox hardware acceleration is off. What tends to be the problem with Firefox?

So, I have an HX650. Nice modular Corsair PSU, +12V @54amps, and 80+ gold certified, 90% efficiency under load. I have an FX-6300 at a moderate overclock (I always fear that I will "burn out" the CPU for some reason, also it keeps the fan nice and quiet) of 4.2Ghz @ 1.4125V. My Sapphire 7870...
