I just ordered this drive as well. Anyone know what movie dvd backup software is compatible with this drive? Something like the 321 studios DVD-X-Copy.
I just learned about Windows Scripting Host and VBscript just today, and came across some links you may find useful.
This link has stuff on the run command (could be useful)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q259103
One of these links show a script using network...
I was able to run the script!!! Now I just need to see if it runs on some other systems and learn more about VBScript so that I can fully customize the script for other scenarios.
KB: YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK!!!! If you need anything at all, let me know! :D
RSMemphis: Thanks for the idea...
I'm trying to backup some files every night using the DOS console with pkzip under Win2k/XP. I'd like to automatically generate zip file names using the date. Is this feasible using simple DOS scripting?
Here is one of my ideas so far. The DOS command "date /t" outputs "Wed 02/20/2002".
I'd...
Hmmm. Maybe a better alternative is to install firewire. Is it possible to take a spare old IDE drive and buy some kind of firewire adapter for it? How much would this cost?
In the meantime, I got this informative response from the Tech Support of the removable HD drawer...
LOL. So at what point do you hit the F5 key? :) I'm running Win2k. I'm not sure if this applied only Win98 machines.
Anyway, how much is a cheap controller that support IDE hot swapping? how bout scsi? Thanks!
I just purchased a removable hard disk drawer. Can I safely add or remove a hard drive to my Windows 2000 system without shutting it down? how bout on a Redhat 7.2 linux system?
Startech SNT127A (I got it from buy.com for $19)
Thanks!
The situation:
I work at a place where the last MIS "consultant" installed pirated software. He also did a number of other stupid things and soon left the company.
We have about 20 networked pc's running win98se and office 2000. and one nt4.0 file server. (some of the win98 cd's...
We have equipment here at work that test cellular phones. After testing is done, the machine will print out the test results via an HP laserjet 1100/1000.
The problem is that i can't change the quality to econo mode directly via the printer controls. :disgust: There is no way to change...
OK. This is a follow up to my original post.
The network is now stable and access fileserver does not get corrupt anymore on a daily basis. It's been about 2 weeks since our last crash. However, I haven't tested for lost packets like i mentioned previously.
There were two things done at...
A friend of mine emailed me with some advice. Thought that some of you might find it useful.

> Both machines showed packet loss whether it was the one copying the file
or not.
The amount of packet loss was variable, ranging...
wow! im gushing from all these great replies and warm community support! Thanks! :o
I realized i left out the conifguration of Client B. MY APOLOGIES TO ALL!!!
It looks like this...
Client B <--> Switch_1 <--> *Switch_2* <--> Server (cascaded)
Client A <--> Switch_3 <--> hub_1 <---> hub_2...
wow. quick question. if i have 3 protocols bound to my linksys adapter, I am guaranteed that it's sending out 1 packet of each type totalling 3 packets? does it matter if the other computer im connected to has 1 or all three protocols bound to the adapter?
For instance, If I transfer a 100MB...
Thanks for all the tips on wiring. I'm gonna go change the cables with some properly made home grown ones. :)
How much would it be for that cat5 tester equipment and would it be worth it?

Also, it's still not clear to me. When copying such a huge file to the server, is it normal to see...
Our Access 2000 MDB back end file on a File Server is getting corrupted after a client gets a ?Network Error? on a daily basis.
SO, I thought I would test the network the following way. While copying a large file over the network to and from my file server, I found a small amount of packet...
Im running Win98se.
The problem. The lower right hand clock on the desktop is 9 minutes and 59 seconds behind in my case. (according to the atomtime shareware that compares my clock against an atomic clock on the internet.)
When I change it to reflect the current time, both manually or...
Well, i'm more interested in what you're supposed to do after a BSOD other than run scandisk.
BTW, the report that scandisk goes by so quick in the end, I have no idea if everything was fine! Any got any input on this?
Also, I think i got the BSOD because I disabled cdrom autorun via...
Ok, it finally happened. I was doing some surfing after I threw in a CDR to do some burning, and BAM, I got the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death!
So then it proceeded to perform a memory dump. Afterwards it rebooted and I ran a scandisk on my NTFS drive. I don't know what it had to report since...
Hey, thanks everyone for all the info! HOwever, I borked up my post and it showed up in the forum twice. Here's the link the to the other thread, and I discuss what I discovered and pose a few more questions.

in short...
It seems I have found the problem.
The linksys fast ethernet pcmcia card I was using to test the connection works flawlessly with a 15 foot line. When connecting to the 250ft line, the link light goes on and off slowly.
BUT then I decided to connect it to the linksys PCI card on my computer...
What is the cat5 cable length limitation for 100Mb switches (NOT hubs)?
I am aware that the limit for fast ethernet is 100 meters, or about 300 feet. So, here's my problem...

Hey Gorgo, the dreamkeys was EXACTLY what i was looking for and more.
The HideIt program had one problem. The program left an icon in the right hand tray control area and if you moved your mouse over it, it would tell you what programs were hidden.
Not good.
Dreamkeys leaves no trace of...
What programs can do this? I just want to completely hide a particular running program in case someone just sits down at my computer to browse the web, without seeing or messing with a program that i am currently running that shows up on the taskbar. Alt-tabbing to the program is acceptable...
I am not talking about programs like norton crashguard that run in the background. I am talking about programs like Internet Explorer or MS Word that you execute. Can you remove them from the taskbar and still have them run secretly in the background?
