    I knew a guy that spent $1000 on a 512kb ram chip and then slipped and burnt the chip while soldering it into the socket. Boy was he pissed. You think ram is expensive now, think about how much the ram cost in old CPM machines(16MB before the age of the Apple lle). Now that's expensive memory.

    Anyone happen to know of an IDE controller card that performs a significant amount of the calculations on-board off-loading them fromt eh cpu and thus having SCSI-like CPU utilization? The cpu utilization is the main reason that I wish I had a SCSI setup.

    Not familiar with the board, but you'd generally wanna get a SCSI controller card for a SCSI setup. A card with cache(preferrably int he form of DIMMs) would be preferrable. The more cache the better, but each doubling of cache has half as much effect on performance as the previous doubling...
