Anything available via apt-get should work. What I have found is that some other programs had issues. I don't remember the exact details because it has been awhile but I think Plex and similar programs had some problems.

Yep, they do. What are you going to use the computer for? Reason I ask is many programs won't play nicely out of the box with an encrypted setup. You can usually work around these issues but it will involve recompiling the programs in question.

You have a couple free options you can try. 1. Download Media Center Classic. This should have all of the codecs needed to run videos well. 2. Download and configure Kodi (XBMC). This also has everything needed to watch videos. If neither of these work you may need to upgrade.

Doesn't matter. I recently upgraded my H97 PRO4 to 2.0, realized that overclocking was disabled, and then downgraded to 1.9 with no issues. Overclocking is working again. I'm very happy with my H97 Pro4. Paired with a G3258 it is a perfect HTPC which does not require a discrete graphics card.

You could always buy a used PSU. You can find something like the Corsair HX 620 on Ebay for around $30. I agree that you wouldn't want to keep your current PSU. When they go the have a tendency to take other components with them.
