Tahiti was AMD's first gpu on 28nm and they went with very conservative densities. As HurleyBird says, Pitcairn puts quite some more on the table. I've heard about the same rumor, but can't assign as to who said so. I have yet to find documents attesting that 28nm hpm has higher sram...

Why has Nvidia not replied or given any statement about Mantle?

nVidia's response is more marketing: Titan ULTRA to make sure they maintain their first place single-gpu, some negative publicity @Origin to make sure AMD looks dumb, and ideally some rumors about how Maxwell will be the next holy grail of gpu-technology.

So what's the better deal now - $5-8 million for exclusive BF4 and mantle in Frostbyte 3 or $5 million on Assassins Creed 5 and Watch Dogs? Either seems far better than $20 million pay-off for Hector Ruiz to leave the company (the alternative, a kick in the butt: *free*) ;).

Rage was the first game ever that made me delete the intro video with bethesda logo from the base folder to actually get the game running. Either way, I didn't want to watch that logo anyway and I finally got that thing running On my Win7/64 I didn't even bother reinstalling the outdated...

Tahiti as Radeon HD 7970 has a memory bandwidth of 264 GB/s. As for Hawaii, you're still not getting the point that a quad channel interface is a design decision taken to be significantly more power-efficient, do you? At the same time, you're badmouthing a GPU not even presented in full...

If it's an improved GCN transistor re-layout at its core it can still be a new architecture. It has a new, supposedly more efficient memory controller. And more render engines. Does that define "new architecture" in your terms, if you have any definition of it at all?

Nvidia is ahead, with its flagship GPUs, and their respective die size. Die size however is less of a critical lead than being a few nodes ahead in fab process. So it seems, AMD is going to compensate with higher area-efficiency.

So (pulling numbers out of my Ares) let's say, if that new AMD card is 5% faster in most scenarios than the GTX 780, draws about equal wattage, comes with BF4 and a bunch of other games, is 50% faster in 1-2 optimized games and selling for the same price, you'd still call it overpriced?

Eric Demers. Actually expectations that Hawai is somewhat on par with a GTX780 or slightly above are anything but far fetched. For a company as ATI/AMD, a 400+ mm² die is no magic either. Keep in mind that current GCN tech would be totally sufficient to match GTX780 levels on a 440-450mm² die...
