Computer won't boot....at all! HELP!

I'm not so worried about my hard drive right now, I would just like ot be able to get into the bios. I can't even post and I have no idea as to why. I've tried different video cards, unplugging just about everything and still no luck.

Best Monitor

Is the Sony CPD-G400 19" Trinitron Monitor the best 19" monitor I can get, it's around 470.00, and I was wondering if I could get something comperable or even better for less. Thanks.

you might have a cable connected wrong somewhere and it is overheating, causing it to smoke...I had this happen...not fun.

Linux questions/need advice :)

you might want to just partition the drive and install linux that way. I think the version where you install linux inside windows in called Winlinux 2000 or something like that, I believe that mandrake has a distribution of that, but I've heard it's a little sluggish compared to other installs...

I think so...probably see how the product activation works out for everyone first, but I like it so far, and don't see a reason not to at least try it.

Burning an ISO image

You should just be able to double click on the .iso image and it should let you do that...but you should have an option when you open Nero to burn from an .iso image.

Difference between geforce2 gts , pro & ultra

With good cooling you should be able to overclock it almost to the Ultra levels...even though you're going to be getting good results with the Pro at defaults. I believe the only difference speed wise is the Pro is (200/400) and the Ultra is (250/460).

If you're having a problem with your video card overheating, maybe sticking a bigger cooler like a Blue Orb or a SS7 cooler on the GPU and then some ram sinks on the RAM and you'll probably find that you'r card is much cooler and able to overclock!

I've never had a problem getting the un-buffered memory to run at cas 2, but I've heard that the registered stuff is a little tougher sometimes...

What is the best 760 chipset DDR Motherboard

You'll probably want to join the great majority of people here and buy an Epox 8K7A, seems to be a pretty good motherboard, and not a horrible price on it either.

Which printer: Lexmark Z22 ($119) or Z33 ($142)?

I just bought the Z43 from newegg for 94.00 and love it! It's pretty fast and the print quality is great for a sub $100 printer. It prints at 2400x1200dpi max and is speced at 12ppm in B&W and 6.5 in color. I would go for that if I were you.

Athlon 1.2 GHz Multiplier

I've never seen a 1.2GHZ chip that was multiplier locked, the four I've had the pleasure of dealing with have all been unlocked. Is there a jumper setting on the motherboard that alows multiplier adjustment?

Computer Won't Boot

you could also try repairing the install in Windows 2000, when you boot from the CD, try reinstalling it or repairing it...then you won't have to reformat, and it should replace any damaged or corupted files.

What's the EASYEST version of Linux to install?

I've always had an easy time installing Mandrake, but RedHat has never given me trouble either, both have optional GUI installs which simplifies things quite a bit. If you're new to Linux I'd definately go Mandrake. First install Windows 98SE and then install Linux. When you boot-up you'll...

Dell 8100 and RAMBUS! Must be installed in pairs, RIGHT?

I've always heard that Rambus must be installed in identical pairs, like (64 and 64=128, 128+128=256, etc.) That's why you don't hear of P4 system with 64MB or 192MB of RAM.

Can I lock out folders, and Socket 3 question???

Make him an account on the machine where doesn't have rights (to change at least) to files in the windows directory, you could be the administrator...I know you can do this is Windows 2000 at least. Or you could just tell him which files not to delete and pray he doesn't forget...

WinXP and SB Live! Problem

Still can't get audio, I tried plugging my speakers into the Onboard VIA audio codec and still got no sound. I did an audio sound check built into my speakers, and they work. I'm just confused as to what is going on.

Looking for a decent, inexpensive set of speakers.

If I were you I would go with a speaker from BA or Altec-Lansing or something like that just because of the quality. But I would reccomend maybe going to Best Buy and trying some out, see what they sound like in your opinion...couldn't hurt, and then you'd be making the best decision for you.

Installing a new system

If you don't have the AGP patch installed, you need to. After that your scores might go up quite a bit, but don't expect huge FPS out of a Geforce2 MX card especially in Win2K, that is your limiting factor at the moment.
